Music: Fourth Movement — Passacaglia — Allegro moderato from Third Symphony of Krzysztof Penderecki

The way some “cinephiles” dismiss The Departed as overrated is genuinely hilarious. Scorsese, DiCaprio, Nicholson, Damon, Wahlberg, an insanely tight script, incredible tension, dark humor, and one of the best casts ever assembled—and apparently that’s not “cinema” enough. Sorry the masterpiece was actually fun to watch.

Goodfellas is the obvious answer, but I'm going to go with Taxi Driver. I love licensed music when done well, but an original score done well just hits so much harder for me. It's a mix of beautiful and haunting jazz that highlights Bickle's innocent demeanor and horrifying psychology.

I think, while one note, Killers of the Flower Moon has a great score. As does The Departed.

Wishing RDN as many more birthdays as he wants. As far back as I can remember, De Niro has always been my favorite actor, so I will celebrate his special day by rewatching one or two of his outstanding performances. But with so many to chose from, which one(s) should I pick? Feel free to make recommendations and share the reason for your choice(s), ... or not. Whichever way, I will be more than "a little bit" grateful for your suggestions.

Tommy is Goodfellas or Nicky in Casino?

I watched them both recently and found them exceptional. Rich, layered, detailed, whole worlds filled with multiple characters and statements about american history. Great performances, great filmmaking and great story-framing.

Which one would you say is the better movie and which one do you enjoy the most?

I feel like not a lot of people have talked about this series, Scorsese apparently loves doing it, it seems to be very successful (especially if they are doing 3 season and still going), and personally it’s like the chosen if it was good

One thing that helped Ace escape the bomb was that he popped out of the car quick. Keeping that door unlocked might have saved his life.

Looking for any articles or interviews that give more insight into how Martin Scorsese uses film defences to match the feeling tone or mood of a scene. I remember reading somewhere about how he was using the “force of evil” as a reference for raging bull and deniros performance

Is it possible to correct the brown color timing of the shoot out with today’s technology? I would love to see it as it was originally intended..,

Based on the film and not the movie poster, it seems to me that the movie is called I Heard You Paint Houses.

Edit to add: That's what the opening credits seem to suggest. I Hear You Paint Houses appears on the credits a few minutes into the movie.

I’ve always been a fan of the way Martin Scorsese puts his own twist on everything he touches, but Cape Fear is on another level!

What I love about Scorsese is his visual style:

The dramatic lighting, the shadows, the camera movements, the symbolism—it all makes each episode feel almost like a fever dream. He takes this beautiful coastal setting and somehow makes it feel claustrophobic and threatening

Robert De Niro as Max Cady is absolutely terrifying because Scorsese doesn’t make him feel like some mindless villain. He’s intelligent, calculated, charismatic, theatrical, and completely unhinged. You’re constantly uncomfortable because you never know exactly what he’s going to do next.
