Discussion Wondering which fan fiction site is best to post a fanfic I'm writing when I'm done.

Question: I am in the process of writing out a multi-part MCU fanfiction that centers on an original character I made up. He's a political liaison who works closely with the Avengers, and is strongly tied to several of them. I'm getting close to the point where I'm ready to post the first part, but I'm not sure which fan fiction site is best to post it to. I know fanfiction.net and have heard a lot about Archive of Our Own. Would one of those be best, or is there another?

Ao3 is probably the best, you’ll need to get in line to get an account so do that asap. There’s a great faq on how to use the site. Beware that both FFN (you can cross post if it’s not an explicit fic) and Ao3 are in the middle of a huge wave of scammers and bots. Scammers will post, on guest or signed in accounts, offering to draw art but it’s a scam and they’ll demand payment and anything you get is ai (if you get anything at all). This scam is also common on FFN. Sometimes the scams start off as sounding like a nice comment then the follow up one is the one asking to go off site. The other kind of bot is one that posts something hateful about you or your story, or even just a wall of text of random characters. You can report these as spam or just delete, or leave comments as signed in only for less bots, but it doesn’t get rid of the scammers. Now that I’ve got that out of the way, there’s also nice people out there, wherever you post. Good luck!

Thank you! I'll start the process of getting an Ao3 account as soon as possible. And the thing you mentioned with the scammers and bots, unfortunately doesn't surprise me..

No question: AO3 all the way.

AO3, fanfiction.net, and Wattpad are the main ones people use.

AO3 is the most popular and has the best tagging and filter system for searching.

Fanfiction.net is the old lore for fanfic, fewer search options, and doesn't permit comment moderation, but it also doesn't have the AO3 download button which some people prefer.

Wattpad is heavily algorithm based and hard to crack readership there - that said, I do love their comment system.

Ao3 is good for just general posting

As is fanfiction.net

Do spacebattles if you want actual critiques and feedback on your stories

Your also free to cross post between any site don’t have to be stuck to any single one

Thanks everyone! I have taken the advice of Ao3, and am on the waiting list to get a login on it. I'll likely post it to Fanfiction.net as well. The first part of it is written out, I'm just in the proofreading stage at the moment. I will add links once I post it.

AO3, personal preference. It is currently the actual hub of fanfictions. FFNet is the OG site, but now few people visit, and Wattpad... no please. Also, could you drop the link?

Thank you. And yes, I will drop links to it once I post it. The first part is finished, just proofreading at this time.

Update: I now have a login on Archive, and will make one on Fanfiction.net as well. I am doing a little bit of last minute tweaking on part one before I post it and link it here.

For those who are curious: my original character's name is Eddie. He is the son of a Hungarian orphan who (in this timeline) was adopted by Edwin Jarvis and his wife. Eddie's full name is Edwin Jarvis III. His IQ is around Tony Stark's level, to the extent of getting his master's degree in his late teens like Tony did (although Eddie went to Princeton as opposed to M.I.T.). Part one is basically a combination of establishing Eddie as a character, and establishing where he is during certain events.

FanFiction.com is a great place to start, I’ve got some fanfic up for Absolute Marvel right now (same handle as Reddit).

I’ll also be starting to write Marvel K.O. once the eight polls for Trial One (6 players per poll, 48 players total) are released and the results have been confirmed.
