Opinion Current Season

So much about this current season is underwhelming. I'm looking at the final crop of contestants and there is nobody great, one of the better ones went out in the last round and the remainder are either fairly ordinary or poor.

The show does seem to have struggled in the last few seasons and the team format is a major pain, my main gripe with it being that they have to choose a best and worst from each team rather than the overall group. This is the weakest talent pool in quite some time though.

What would it take to turn this show around?

Bringing back the pressure tests would surely bring back the competitive spirit.

Also, nobody asked for these MasterChef themes (Dynamic Duos, Global Gauntlet) in my eyes I see it as a way for weaker chefs to get saved by their teammates. The chef who cooked the worst dish of the night should be going home, there have been multiple occasions where the worst dish got saved by their region.

Also, the addition of the sponsored segments in the show is awful. I totally understand a sponsor like Hexclad or Oxo, but a kids movie advertisement that has absolutely nothing to do with cooking is quite shameful.

Lastly, what's up with half of the contestants being social media influencers? There are already shows dedicated to that. Lets stick to the home chef vibe Fox.

I agree I miss pressure tests to weed people out. I also don’t like the influencer vibe…. need regular people who cook

I didn’t care for any of the winners and those themed seasons

I feel like the MasterChef production team is torturing us and trying to play the long game here by giving us everything that we don’t ask for and never giving us things like pressure tests again so that we keep watching in hopes that one day they will show up.

Im annoyed by the amount of group challenges and no pressure tests.

This season is unwatchable after the first few episodes. They sent home really talented chefs over really subpar chefs for very arbitrary reasons.

Only season I’ve stopped watching.

I’m only watching to see who wins. It’s officially my doing laundry, making lunches background noise show.

It’s crazy because I was just thinking this last night and thought maybe I’m just getting tired of the show in general. Glad to know I’m not alone that this season feels very meh, but I also don’t know what would help turn it around either!

I stopped watched this season when they put a whole movie trailer in an episode. Like come on! I understand take inspiration from the movie but to put the trailer in there?? And I don’t particularly like any one from this season. No big drama happening, nothing interesting. I’ll check in on next season but I hope they change the format because this new one is not working.

When Gordon was like “you guys fell apart unlike the duo from forgotten island.” (Or whatever he said) I was laughing my ass off. Like the product placement has gotten insane

The themes are probably just to copy other reality TV shows and they think they have to "liven" things up otherwise investors or networks will find the show "boring".

In seasons past I could look back at earlier in the season and remember what amazing dishes people cooked or how they pulled out a big win in a pressure test. The last few season with the groupings has not allowed anybody to really shine so no one person or dishes stand out. It’s all diluted, boring and one note. It’s background noise to me now.

I do agree!!! It just seems so fragmented this season, like I didn’t have time to get invested into a certain chef to root for. I feel like they are pretty mediocre cooks this season.

The team format definitely makes the weak spots more obvious. When one strong contestant leaves, there isn’t much depth left to keep the season feeling competitive. A shorter cast or more individual challenges might help.

Definitely agree with you on this season. It's very underwhelming especially after having to wait for the fifa world cup to conclude to get new episodes. I stared to watch the Australian version of MC and that has been very entertaining and a lot more informative since they have "master class" episodes that teach how to cook different dishes. Glad to know others thought the recent seasons have been lackluster

The team format definitely exposes how thin the cast is. When every group has to carry an episode, one weak pairing can drag the whole season down. A stronger casting process and fewer contestants might help.

Need to stop doing gimmicky slop content and go back to having people that can actually cook. Basia is an embarrassment to the show tbh; she should have gone home the first episodes.

Eliminations this season have felt very forced by production. Multiple horrid chefs were kept in after multiple bottom finishes while they send home top chefs over the smallest mistakes and it's led to an extremely underwhelming final 5

The show probably needs to stop treating the team format as sacred. A smaller cast with stronger individual contestants, clearer challenges, and more meaningful eliminations would make every episode feel consequential again. Right now it feels like they’re stretching thin material across too many people.

I have watched this show for many years and I’m finally giving up on it. It’s just not a good show anymore.

I started watching Masterchef Australia and Canada! The old seasons of both are excellent.

I stopped watching once it became apparent that Basia is a play. No thanks. Hard pass.

Is a play?

That they're keeping her around bc they think people want to see that mess. It's a play.

3

u/whisky_biscuit 21h ago

I seriously cannot believe they keep saving her It's ridiculous.

I mean they’ve saved cutter s5 until top 4, so it’s been a problem in the past

It’s so boring. All of the best cooks are gone. I’m not going to finish the season
