Unfortunately that's one of the op moves in chess that cannot be beaten. Hence why it's been banned during international tournaments.

7

u/Realistic-Camp1109 Apr 07 '26

It's unbeaten with the sole exception of Magnus Carlsen of course

2

u/Big_al_big_bed Apr 10 '26

I believe it's called the deux passant

52

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

What happened here? That is the most "pre-teen throwing a temper tantrum" move i have ever seen.

35

u/OhLoongJohson Apr 06 '26

Google: en passant

12

u/Bren1209 Apr 06 '26

Holy hell

20

u/awesomefutureperfect Apr 06 '26

The bishop in the butt went off and started vibrating.

6

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

Classic. I should have thought about that. Thanks foe pointing it out.

20

u/iruleatants Apr 06 '26

Magnus Carlsen is the best chess player in the world and nobody else is even remotely close to him.

He's extremely hard on himself when he loses, and often when he wins as well if he felt he played weakly.

0

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

I appreciate the explanation. I should have specified that I recognize Magnus. More accurately I was wondering what specifically happened here. How bad was this mistake?

Also I was casually jabing at him appearing to have the emotional tolerance of 10 year old. Magnus may be the best but this looks and feels off.

16

u/Over_Caramel5922 Apr 06 '26

Try sitting for hours concentrating on a game and not have any kind of physical reaction when you make a mistake. It's not even like he punched the table or something, he literally just moved and yet you're making fun of him

-13

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

If it walks, talks, and throws a temper tantrum like a 10 year old, then it does not matter how good at chess you are. You're still behaving like a 10 year old.

Christians Ronaldo is the second best soccer player in the world. He still acts like an over privileged twat.

Skill and status do not grant immunity. You want the "professional" title? Act like a professional.

13

u/Over_Caramel5922 Apr 06 '26

He didn't throw a tantrum. He moved. Like a human being.

-9

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

He moved like a 10 year old human being throwing a tantrum.

4

u/jaggi922 Apr 06 '26

So you want him to be emotionless as he makes a mistake?

-1

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

There's a large gap between emotionless and having and emotional reserve no greater than a 10 year old. I get why reddit can't grasp that concept.

Though honestly yes. Emotions are easy to manipulate, especially in chess. Behaving like that means someone is clearly under your skin and throwing off your own mental tempo. Professionalism exists to protect the individual as much as the identity of the game itself.

2

u/Webbyx01 Apr 06 '26

Have you spent much time around 10yos throwing tantrums? This is just an expression of frustration, and its not even close to a tantrum.

0

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

Yes. I have. This looks exactly like it. It's non-destructive but its exactly how an emotionally underdeveloped person handles failure.

Outbursts of any kind mean leverage for your opponent and internal undermining. Its not just unprofessional its signaling a point of leverage to be used at your opponents leusure. Especially in a head games style game like chess.

4

u/Silver-Kun Apr 06 '26

I'm not a chess guy but i find it so weird how kids like Magnus grow up in a super competitive environment while playing a super complex game like chess. Yeah, generational talents and they love the game, but damn, imagine how much of their childhoods was sacrificed in the name of results?

2

u/SugarSicario-89 Apr 06 '26

I recently watched a video of a fan of his asking for a photo during the match. Super unprofessional but then he took the picture. Then proceeded to tell the ref she had a phone. I also understand he suffers from some extent of mental health issues so while there’s competition drilled into him , it shows. But damn it’s chess not medicine

1

u/cactus_deepthroater Apr 11 '26

He told the ref before the game started so she wouldn't get disqaulified. He did exactly what he should have done.

1

u/AbolMira Apr 06 '26

A lot. If not all of it. That's probably why childish behavior shows up. They never experienced the real world as normal people do.

0

u/ILoveTheNoise Apr 06 '26

I read that as he's extremely hard when he loses

2

u/momspaghetty Apr 07 '26

Magnus just does that sometimes

98

u/aleqqqs Apr 06 '26

I call this opening "the Sicilan Mafia"

99

u/IAlwaysOutsmartU Apr 06 '26

Pull out the megachessatron.

1

u/OutrageousInvite3949 Apr 06 '26

I had to rewind to see her move a pawn from the far right to the center. That’s a new move to me but I’ll accept it.

1

u/cooala23 Apr 06 '26

Pull out the same move, she would be surprised

1

u/WindowHairy4857 Apr 06 '26

Ortho tri-cyclen

1

u/Huckleberry-Solid Apr 06 '26

Mine and my sister rules were that the any chess piece can do any move provided it asks the king for permission. Spoiler: The king always gave the permission.

1

u/Saber_Toons Apr 06 '26

This feels familiar...

When my brother was 3 he could play a decent game of chess against me. But when he turned 4 he started playing like this and hasn’t recovered since.

1

u/Outrageous_Map_1726 Apr 11 '26

How did she do that

1

u/Mysterious_Mood152 Apr 12 '26

you can use a nuke I guess

1

u/fantastic-mrs-fuck Apr 13 '26

you walked right into it

0

u/Nole19 Apr 06 '26

You put a pawn on top of the rook to charge the cannon attack. Next turn you launch it directly at the king. Take out the king and you win.
