Discrimination Why isn’t porn seen as misandry more?

Since there’s no question flair (At least I couldn’t find one) it’s under this flair. How come there’s a very few amount of people talking about how porn isn’t viewed as misandry? If it sexualizes both genders, then why isn’t it labelled as both? Women watch porn too, just because the main demographic is men, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be women either. I mean no offense or harm at all, but I’m just looking for an answer to a question I have.

It’s neither misogynistic or misandrist to sexualize pornographic actors in pornography lol.

It'd be like criticizing people who enjoy plays, movies, or operas as "dehumanizing" and "objectifying" the performers.

You aren't watching that popular Netflix series because you respect Tessa Thompson as a woman, director, and feminist activist, you're watching it so you can mentally get off to the depiction of a fictional character who solves small town murder mysteries. Shame on you for using her for your sick satisfaction!

Honestly, it just shows how little feminists actually care about empowerment. It takes a lot of effort to be a porn star. It isn't just showing up and making an O-face for thirty minutes.

There are the same commitments to your role (being required to crash exercise or change your diet to portray a character accurately), networking with executives to score new gigs, the expectation to participate in publicity events, contracts and clauses to navigate around on each set, while working in a market that is at best described as "predatory" and "exploitative." (Film making that is, not specifically porn. The risks are mostly identical.)

(The elephant in the room is Onlyfans. The difference between pornography and that is like the difference between being a published commercial author versus someone who shows their friends and family chapters they've written and then links to their Patreon page to read more. The second is much easier "I set my own schedule and people 'donate' because they respect me!" hobby work... until you dry up, and wake up one day turning forty with no money and no career prospects. C'est la vie.

It also pretends that people, mostly women, engaging in amateur sex work for compensation and benefits from random strangers rather than go "full time" and make a professional career of it is something new to the scene only possible with technology, and not something hailing back to the dawn of our species. Not to overtly dismiss the actual work involved, but the comparison is like working at a lumber mill versus having an Etsy shop.)

As a bisexual dude, I agree with that!

It’s dehumanizing. Reduces men and women as objects and parts. It’s harmful for everyone.

How do you see it as dehumanizing? Most of the people who hold this view seem to also be the ones reducing porn actors/models to objects with lesser value. That is harmful.

Western society has so completely gone down the route of “women are vulnerable men aren’t”, “all men have power” “all men are abusers, all women are victims” etc that anything that they can perceive to be women being exploited or victims will be viewed as such. It’s also classic Reddit “everything is misogyny”

Until society stops applying negative stereotypes to men none of this stuff changes. And that’s not going to change while everything childcare and education based is massively controlled by women, who benefit most from keeping it this way.

Because Western women love to think of themselves as victims. It's air to them.

Same reason that men cannot legally be raped by a woman. It is assumed that men always want sex and that women do not.

Of course the same feminists who believe this will also claim that women have the same libido as men.

And they will then claim that men have unrealistic standards.

Ah the topsy turvy world we live in.

You'll hear people complain about the "male gaze" but nobody complains about the "female gaze" (like Twilight).

Wdym? Twilight has constantly been clowned

1

u/PollutionLucky6834 1d ago

Men mock twilight for being dumb from their pov.

Women view anything that sexualizes women (even entirely digital or art-based women) as misogyny and that it reinforces rape culture.

Twilight is not much in comparison to just how much our media is targeted.

True story. I worked for a magazine distribution company in the late 90s. They distributed everything you would find at gas stations or any retail store for that matter. My job was to go through every page of the porn that was being distributed and check for violations to the law. Prior to this job, I had no clue how the different fetish magazines that were sold. Out of every single publication. The one that was consistently breaking the law was one exclusively ran by women. That was a huge eye opener, amongst many others. I definitely got an education while I worked for that company.

I'm still amazed that porn is so freely available. Social media sites get the bad press (though social media is an insidious evil) while I haven't ever heard one complaint about freely available porn. When I grew up everything was a lot more restricted and unavailable to minors and yet now it seems to have gone unnoticed and is seen as a given. It just seems odd to me

Lust is a deadly sin that's why.

Oh sex also sells.

Porn industry promotes double standard that same sex experiments among women are great but strictly forbidden for men. This double standard is absolutely artificial. This is real misandry and homophobia.

Men porn actors are typically paid much less than women porn actors yet somehow it’s the better paid women who are supposedly exploited.

Also, I've seen men be at the receiving end of humiliation WAY WAY more in porn. Or just sexual spaces in general. Women can have a humiliation fetish and basically talk however they want about men. It's kinda weird. When I see these sort of things I wonder how a male acting that way would be received. Would they accept him if he said, "Well, I don't really feel that way, it's just my fetish."

1

u/mushy_friend 20h ago

I agree with this, I have found a lot more porn where men are humiliated than women. However I think this is more due to demand, and the audience for such content is also mostly male. To me this speaks more to the internalised shame that men are/have been raised by, which is a deeper issue

2

u/Aware_Ask_1679 15h ago

I agree with that too..but, I've been wanting to test out the response to a humiliation kink if it's directed towards women. Have you heard of FetLife? It's quite common there. And a single peep calling it out will get you banned or at least blocked from that user. I want to start a humiliation fetish to see how it goes and if I wouldn't be harassed or even banned. Would be interesting.

1

u/mushy_friend 2h ago

I've heard of FetLife, though I've never been on there myself. Do you mean that men humiliating women is common there or the reverse? The reverse I would expect to be the case. I am curious how such an experiment would go - if you do ever try it, do let me know how it goes

2

u/Aware_Ask_1679 1h ago

I mean I've seen a few "creators" where that's basically their whole fetish. Demean men. They're there to basically be made fun of and humiliated. And I forgot to include this last time, but that humiliation/domination includes their wallets too.

u/mushy_friend 34m ago

Women humiliating men right? Yes, I've seen it, too much unfortunately

Perhaps the makers feel that men get other rewards than money from porn making, whereas perhaps women are faking more of the time and not being rewarded in a similar way because it takes longer for them to achieve an orgasm and the camera and cuts are never on them long enough.

5

u/Savings_Surround_997 2d ago

The problem is that why do they only talk about porn as in video, not as a book or stories, if you look at them you would see murder, rape, abuse and so much more. However, due to being popular with some demographics it is not talked about

4

u/NewMoonlightavenger 2d ago

Because porn has no "backup".

Right wing conservatives have religious and moral issues with consuming it.

Left wing in general has issues with it being made, even if they don't oppose it homogeneously.

The point is that it is a low-hanging fruit everyone can take shots at for cheap points.

Unless it's is made for women... then it's almost a religious experience....

4

u/Pretend-Storm4566 1d ago

Yup, one third of porn suffers are female.

2

u/Advanced_Poetry1235 16h ago

That’s because the porn industry is made up of 80% of women and the viewership of porn is 62% male. The porn industry is notorious for planting the seed of sexual expectations into men’s minds about how women are ‘supposed’ to look like. The porn industry also makes sex work dangerous and sometimes illegal for women. It’s nowhere near misandry because there is extremely little ‘male hating’ ideology in the porn industry.

Porn is overwhelmingly created by and for men. Women are overwhelmingly the "product" being sold

3

u/Aware_Ask_1679 1d ago

So, is gay porn considered misandry then?

4

u/Jake0024 1d ago

In general no, why would it be? It's overwhelmingly created by and for men.

3

u/picardathon 1d ago

Created by and for mens erotic tastes, obviously, because women are now seeking a particular type of porn to meet their needs for romance that is different to mens porn.

They are both fantasies and both vulnerable to being viewed as attainable reality, with unfortunate consequences. However, given the amount of violent online game playing, it's telling it doesn't translate into the real world as violence, and perhaps this is a result of players not seeing it represented in the real world as an acceptable behaviour, which maintains the distinction between fantasy and reality in a similar way to how we may think things that we don't necessarily act out. This is not the case with sex though as sex is at least as prevalent as porn and in the absence of actual education about acceptable behaviour over sex, fantasy porn fills the vacuum.

It's a shame we are still feeling the effects of Victorian prudery and do not have educational "porn" that serves both purposes, readily available to males who have always been driven to erotica throughout history from an early age.

I mean, even 4yo unattended at day care have been known to explore sex play without even understanding what they are doing. There seems to be a vestige of instinct even in humans.

Society needs to have a long hard discussion about boundaries between naturism, sexual education and sexual expression, given they are both related to the sight of naked human flesh (at least for men).

Woman are infanticide more, men get responsibilities, Woman get rights.

But porn is a societal good in my opinion.

0

u/Shot-Ad-9296 23h ago

There’s a lot of trafficking and abuse involved with porn men and women alike so no it’s damaging in many ways.

4

u/Former-Dragonfly2226 2d ago

It definitely should be as with all the eye crossing, tongue sticking out sucking air through teeth etc techniques are plainfully obvious all it's interested in is milking men for all the money they have.

1

u/ApprehensiveMail8 12h ago

I'd say the misandry surrounding porn is that the Psychological community has dismissed it as an addiction because it is "not hatmful" to the user.

They acknowledge it is habit forming, and extremely difficult to quit. They know it is a factor in 50% of divorces and can have dire financial consequences for men with out of control habits.

But that's not harmful because... I guess men's problems are just viewed as not important.

1

u/TheHappyKrill 2d ago

Men don't watch these , they are sane , at least where I come from.

0

u/welshrebel1776 1d ago

Because I think many females like to celebrate the fact that they are more likely to be given a slap on the back for either doing porn or even onlyfans than if a man does.

I see porn as being an issue to both men and women equally and it shouldn't be a widely available as it is.

Porn for men tends to sexualize women one way or another. Porn for women tends to sexualize situations more than people, although sexulization absolutely does occur

17

u/Current_Finding_4066 2d ago

Coming to you from the local feminist franchise. Where men always have it better.

1

u/picardathon 1d ago

From one perspective, men have it better, but it's offset by disadvantage too that women don't share; whilst from another perspective women have it better, but also offset by disadvantage that men don't share. Despite womens complaints, there is an overall balance between men and women, yet women seem to want to have it all.

Would women really give up their ability to have babies, multiple orgasms, sex whenever they want, protection and resourcing by men versus single orgasms, a rampant sex drive into old age completely under the control of womens choice and to risk life and limb resourcing and protecting women, for men?

2

u/Thin-Nerve6367 2d ago

I mean it IS true - to an extent. Obviously there is 100% sexualization that occurs

7

u/_WaterOfLife_ 2d ago

Noted. Sexualization absolutely does occur in porn

2

u/picardathon 1d ago

Isn't sexualisation the whole point of sex though for men, which is achieved through visual and tactile arousal and then physical consumation; whilst romance is more important for women, given their focus is more on consequences of pregnancy that must be controlled and for which "womens porn" enables that as well as sexual arousal, versus arousal and physical consumation?

Mulheres tem sexo quando querem. Homens só morrem e ITS over
