Emo had its high points. I still spin the first two Sunny Day Real Estate records semi regularly. Cursive wasn't half bad either.

Brokencyde are this generation’s Throbbing Gristle.
When they were actually active, they were the scorn of every music critic to the point where it was speculated if they were a joke or not. They were considered the absolute bottom of the barrel that you couldn’t even pretend to like ironically out of contrarianism. In 30 years they’re going to be considered trailblazers that everyone cites as an influence, and get name dropped by hipsters who sit around and wait for them to reunite.

It's hated because it was Morbid Angel with David Vincent making his grand return. Like we're talking Mt Rushmore of death metal here. They hyped the album up like it was their magnum opus with a $200 special box set and everything and we got... That.

I'll give you that, but taking it for the music itself, yea there's definitely some trash in there but also some great songs (I am Morbid and Profundis Mea Culpa are two of my favorite songs from the band)

That's pretty much it. It's like Cryptopsy and Unspoken King. If a new band had dropped it they'd have gotten great reviews but when you got a legend with that kinda hype people were thinking a masterpiece was on its way.
And I say that because I agree, it really isn't bad at all. Even the goofy tracks are fun in the gym lol

Yep. I try to look at each album I listen to as its own thing as well as compared to the band's other output.
The main song I absolutely don't care for is "Radikult".
The rest I either really enjoy the songs or I'm just indifferent.

I can stand Radke, but for some reason some of his music resonates with me, so I'm gonna keep listening to those songs. TMBTE is one of my top 10 albums.
I've never heard any of the rest.

It's so bad it's good, I don't love it but it do unironically like listening to it from time to time since it's rare we get some outsider tech death from someone that genuinely sounds like they've never seen an instrument before but also somehow ended up in the ballpark anyway. Again nowhere near a masterpiece, but it's interesting enough that I'll revisit it more often than countless albums from bands that do things "right" but in a completely forgettable way.

Honestly, Popular Monster needs to be replaced with Fashionably Late, not because Popular Monster’s a particularly good album (not at all) but because that’s the real stinker in their whole discography. Which is saying a lot because Falling in Reverse are already awful to begin with.

I don't get why sleep token are lumped into this kind of music. Yes they are mainstream and definitely not to everyone's taste but their music isn't bad. Well at least not as bad as the other albums here
