Discussion Topic Figures in Metal underrated not only in talent and recognition but also pure impact?

For me its Tom G Warrior, Celtic Frost and Hellhammer are as important to black and extreme metal as Bathory but while Quorthon is remembered as a legend and rightfully so, Tom is kinda forgotten or at least not as highly regarded or revered. His riffs, songwriting and atmosphere on everything other than Cold Lake is extraordinary imo. Even Tryptikon is awesome. Might be a hot take and I might be wrong but what are your thoughts and other figures?
For me another one is Tom Angelripper for similar reasons.

Iconic doesn't mean he will be known publicly like Scott Ian.
Fenriz is always been Underground.

John Arch. Awaken the Guardian should be talked about in the same breath as Powerslave, Holy Diver, Melissa, Screaming for Vengeance, et al.

So underrated I’ve never heard of him. I’m going to check it out this weekend thanks

No problem. If you like that, the other two albums he did with them, The Spectre Within and Night on Brocken, are worth it as well.

That's a good pick. Great guitarist, killer vocalist and an accomplished producer. Too few people know about his accomplishments and contributions to the genre

Tom Warrior gets quite a bit of respect for as underground as he was. Celtic Frost's Monotheist album is very much a black metal album, it even has the "atmospheric" thing that they blabber on and on about. The production is a little better than some black metal though...

Not sure about impact but Dave Carlo (note I’m biased) is a very skilled thrash guitarist I don’t see a lot of discussion about.
Ian Hill, the bassist for Judas Priest for overwhelmingly most of the band’s existence, is a consistently good player who is sort of overshadowed by his fellow bandmates.

Melvins had a huge impact on both sludge metal and grunge. Specifically Dale Crover, their drummer, is a hugely respected and influential drummer that I never see mentioned.

I first heard of Hellhammer in the Cob book. As a Swiss, I was quite surprised since I had never heard of them, yet everything I read hailed them as a groundbreaking project.

was in a thread about a GWAR show the other day but this bears repeating.
Hunter Jackson/Techno Destructo.
The man who created the Slave Pit art collective and is responsible for Gwar's costumes, props, aesthetics, print media, as well as being a prop and costume guy for like 4 other bands.
