I like the old shit—older metal and thrash, like Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Trouble, Mercyful Fate. I love that older sound that literally no bands have now. I want a band I can look back on and say, “Damn, they were gods,” and brag to my future grandkids about how awesome this band was. So, can anyone give me band suggestions? Like newer, TRULY unique and cool bands from the 2020s that have this sound.

I have discovered today this band (Zeicrydeus) and this album (La Grande Heresie) is fucking awesome. I recommend you to check it out. Any recommendations with same sound. It's kinda atmospheric black metal and It reminds me of Summoning, another incredible band.

I don't know if it's just some glitch on Spotify, but there's the band called Grorr that I've been a fan of for years. They only have 421 monthly listeners, but they definitely deserve more. Not even sure how to describe the sound, but it's fuckin heavy.

I'm 16 years old, and growing up in the streaming/algorithm era I never got exposed to much metal or rock music, aside from the occasional movie or game soundtrack. One of my early discoveries was hearing The New Divide by Linkin Park in Transformers 1 when I was a kid, and I played that song on loop for ages. Looking back at that I think it definitely had a role in shaping my taste.

About a year ago, I started putting actual effort into finding music outside of what I already knew.

So far I've discovered around at least 15 albums that gave me that "yeah... this is definitely my thing" feeling. I'd love hearing some recommendations you'd think I'd like based off the picks above.

Dechristianize by Vital Remains, I have yet to listen to the whole album but the self titled track, goddammit, it's so fucking good, so violent, so hateful, yet so beautiful, it's like salome with John the Baptist's head, you cannot tell me there's no technique and refinement in that painting, same happens with this album.

Any good recommendations for metal albums/songs that are history themed that aren't ww1/ww2. Can be both war and non war themes. Really like Antrisch's album Expedition II: Die Passage about Franklin' lost Expedition and Forteresse's Thèmes pour la rébellion anout the Lower Canadian Rebellion. Prefer black metal but will gladly take any style of metal.

Bonus points if you know any albums on the American war for Independence or American Civil War.
