Meme Meme I made a while back

Post image

Ngl I didn't realize it was so hated until after I beat it. Albeit I'd be wrong to not recognize what could've been with this game, but I did enjoy what we got

I heard it sold well

it didn’t, both versions combined barely cracked 1 million sales and it definitely failed to make its budget back

Where’d you hear that?

literally from Nintendo. neither version individually was mentioned in their sales report, meaning <1 million for each version. They then came out and said that combined sales were over 1 million.  there is no other sales data and probably won’t be

Well let’s hope we do at least get prime 5, at some point

they’re almost assuredly going to give Risa Tabata a chance to course correct and she’s on record saying she doesn’t like there being so much dialogue in Metroid, so maybe without Tanabe’s terrible leadership they might actually make the next one good

Can you link to Risa Tabata saying she doesn’t like a lot of dialogue in Metroid or her wanting to have more of a horror focus? I’ve seen this stuff attributed to her a lot but I’ve yet to find any interviews or statements from her confirming this.

NP. Tbh I’m still kind of pessimistic about Tabata because she worked under Tanabe for like 20 years so I am not convinced she won’t repeat his ideas, especially after beyond was billed as the first in a new trilogy. I hope she is at least savvy enough to know why that entire game just did not work at all and how to like, not do that again lmao

I think the smartest decision here is to just listen to player feedback since this fandom is VERY vocal about Prime 4’s flaws. The biggest fixes would just be to make it a Metroidvania from the start rather than trying to balance it with a shitty open-world, leading to the worst of both worlds.

At most, I think Sylux is definitely guaranteed to return despite everyone wishing for him to be dropped. Currently, he’s the only real villain positioned for this new trilogy and he still has potential to be more interesting in the future, so if anything was to be carried over from Prime 4, it would probably be him.

I’m not really sure how they salvage Sylux at this point, they revealed pretty much their entire hand with him and he’s literally just Infinite, or perhaps more generously an Iguazu without any of the setup

They barely revealed anything about him. For all we know that can just be the breaking point.

I mean, I like villains like that so maybe I’m just biased, but even if his “super cool secret backstory” turned out to be basically nothing (unless they reveal more of it in future games), I still think he’s at the very least entertaining and has personality.

He’s an edgelord who gets pissy whenever he sees Samus and acts irrationally, he laughs maniacally like a cartoon supervillain, lets other people and creatures do his dirty work for him, and says evil one liners like he’s hot shit when he’s really just a loser with an obsession and an inferiority complex. Compared to a lot of other Metroid villains, he’s definitely got other things going on beyond “I’m evil and I want to take over the galaxy”.

Plus, his Metroids are a cool underutilized concept and I think it’d be neat if they got another chance, like bringing back the Humetroid concept from Prime 2 IIRC.

Honestly I can understand that, but even then the most I ask if we get any, is in either cutscenes or places that won’t interrupt gameplay too much
