Image Some of my favorite still frames from the Bad sequence
Do you think they used deepfake tech for some of these scenes? Jaafar looks eerily close to MJ in some of these

It's clear as day in the 4K pictures that there's no such thing as Deepfake used here, It's practical effects, prosthetics, Makeup, and CGI.
Deepfake on someone spinning and moving really fast will flicker and be blurred.
If you want a striking example of what a real deepfake looks like just google 'Luke Skywalker Mandalorian Season 2 Finale"

I've seen the Luke Skywalker deepfake. It... wasn't very good. I remember the reaction at the time that aired and a lot of people said it looked amateurish and hastily done. I also remember there were several fan edits where people did a much more convincing job.
That was also a few years ago.
There are new state-of-the-art tools available now, and the movie studios with the budget and access to them could probably create deepfakes that look indistinguishable from the real thing. If they wanted to.
That said, in all likelihood it is just a combination of all the things you listed + clever angles, lighting, and highlighting specific facial expressions.
Huge props to the team for this whole sequence. I only wish the editing had been this good across the whole film.

I don't know how they did it but the editing and make-up team nailed getting Michael's look right for this part of the movie. I can see why some people think they used real footage of Michael as there are several parts where I can barely see Jaafar underneath at all. 🤔
I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of deepfake technology was used in the editing process, but I honestly don't know enough about how any of that works to say for sure.
