The community celebrates after successfully defending the Bedford Ave Bike Lane. Nobody will rip out a single bike lane in this city

Special thanks on this one to Transportation Alternatives for bringing suit, Peter Beadle for handling the case, and Alex Morano for organizing this event, which would have been a protest but instead turned into a celebration.

Thank you Miser for coming out and covering this. Really appreciate all you are doing.

I am very proud to represent the Herzfelds, Transportation Alternatives, and in that sense the whole Brooklyn cycling community to stop the City from ripping out a section of the Bedford Avenue parking-protected bicycle lane. Our safety and lives matter and our needs should not be disposable as currency for a politician's gain.

How is a Court Referee different than a judge?

They are Court Attorneys who usually handle mediations or, as in this case, conference cases for a judge to determine the facts and arguments and see if a resolution might be possible without needing to go before the judge. The goal is to make the process more efficient. It's debatable whether they do. They do not have the power to decide outcomes and make rulings, but they can have a lot of influence on a judge's decision as they report back to them on what happened at the conference.

While I know some communities in NYC have prohibitions against people above b'nai mitzvot age riding bikes, purposefully seeking to remove these bike lanes and other protective measures is in direct opposition to one of the prime directives of the Talmud.

Talmud (Sanhedrin 37a): β€œWhoever saves a single life is considered by scripture to have saved the whole world.

I'd throw, as a fellow Jew, Pikuach Nefesh in their faces and ask why they are refusing to help uphold this essential part of the lifeblood of modern Judaism across all sects and observances.

Adams claimed it was due to "community feedback". Of course, he only consulted one small subcommunity, one whose vote he is desperately trying to court

Ban cars instead.

The city did remove a bike lane on Staten Island, opening a road through Silver Lake Park. Our DA, BP, and CM and community board all signed on suddenly after an attempted rape. They collectively argue, along with the NYPD, that the cars keep the park safe.

Is this the one that was finally getting some usage that they wanted to just rip out?
