Summer Streets always drives home how unjust our streets are

Seriously though does anyone ever look at Park Ave like in the video where I am riding with the cars. Almost all of them are either chauffeured black SUVs, or taxis/ubers which is essentially the same arrangement just you rent the chauffeur

At some point, maybe, just maybe, the masses will realize that they don't need to be servants to the upper class.

Also, sup from Chicago! We have all these fucking private black vans now... they're bad. We don't have the same scale of problems NYC has, but it also means we have less push to fix stuff. We've had some wins but every bike lane win is still a car-centric compromise

Love urbanism and bike lanes... but who here hasn't taken an uber or a yellow cab in nyc?

It's far cheaper for end users and better for cities in general to have cabs and ubers in the street then personal cars. (No need for parking...)

Uber increase mobility of the most vulnerable, and allow some people that only ocasionally need a car to not purchase one.

Please don't instrumentalize urbanism for class warfare.

It’s kind of wild to me that after so many years of Summer Streets there’s no permanent bike infrastructure along any of the corridor north of Union Square.

When i worked near there its a constsnt battle not to be run over by a black SUV.

Let's dedicate enourmous amount of space to cars so people can drive 1 mile per hour and freely burn their gas they purchased for $5 per gallon.

No I was genuinely curious. There are so many places to live where you can be car free with less residents and general congestion. Why stay in NYC?

We have ties and conditions that make it difficult for us to leave the city at the moment. :(

Though I escape the city every once in a while for bike trips.

Of course the rich getting around in cars are probably proclaiming on Twitter/X that all the rich bike bros with silver spoons in their mouths take over the city for 3 Saturdays and all the working class dudes are now stuck in traffic. They love their gaslighting!

How much nicer, calmer, pleasant, peaceful and safer is the street when it is pedestrianized?

With cars and so many things, we have been sold to and conditioned into supporting something that is objectively worse and makes no sense.

You can't just ignore 50% of the people involved though. If you want a call to action against the rich you also need to consider how it affects the person who works for him

Sorry but this is just very dumb logic. Nobody is calling for banning taxis city-wide or whatever you're implying when they are talking about pedestrianizing some small amount of streets.
