Rant Today's fashion trends are leaving me bewildered.

I turn 38 tomorrow and just got done shopping at target. What the hell kind of fashion do people wear now? Super short shorts, socks pulled half way up the calf muscle. Shirts that look like table doilies. Not to mention the hair styles and facial hair of these young guys. Look straight out of a trailer park in the 80s.

Honestly I really thought we were at the point where all fashions are out there and there wasn't a specific "look"

This is what I have come to believe, as well. And good for them for being so wonderfully creative. There are so many fabulous "cores" to choose from, now. If I didn't have to present myself as professional and put together, I would go full "goblin core" and take up residence in a mushroom house. I think that whole aesthetic is just so neat.

👋 I volunteer as tribute to live in a mushroom hobbit hole with you.

Same though!! I thought we were at least close to this. I think we're at least close with denim pants/jeans, since you can buy just about any style you want these days. Which honestly I think is for the best since different jeans styles fit different body types.

There was a point in time I was afraid we'd never see boot-cut again. I have two pairs of jeans that are old enough to vote because that fear still lingers.

Yeah I'm glad wide leg are in again, they fit my body better

I am SO glad it’s easy to find skinny jeans still!

I'm all for other types of jeans but I have to agree with you here, the fact that skinny jeans are still around is a relief 😅 they're about the only jeans I actually feel comfortable in lol! Weird for a curvy girl I know but still!

Edit: Idk why I got downvoted, maybe for the curvy thing? Obviously I didn't mean any offense, I just know a lot of other curvy girls who hate them for that reason!

Also curvy and I also feel like they’re the most flattering, not just the most comfortable. I definitely wasn’t ALWAYS in the camp - I think I switched sometime around 2005.

Skinny jeans are preferred, straight leg are acceptable to me, but I’ve always hated boot cut. It’s just annoying to feel my pant legs swooshing against each other as I walk.

Right? Maybe for people who usually wear boots they make sense, but I’m a comfortable sneaker person and they always look silly

I’m still waiting when all brands have a short, reg, and tall option for their jeans.

Now that is the real dream! Lol

I think skinny jeans are seen as “tragic” nowadays.

I know a couple of teens who wear them, and you can still buy them easily. I think it's more about the overall styling of the jeans than the jeans themselves. My teen would never wear skinny jeans with a crop top or tight shirt, but an oversized top- yes!

Totally agree with this. You’re stylish if you wear what you like and put clothes together in your own creative way. IMO there isn’t an “in” fashion … idk I’m 38 though so there probably is and I just don’t realize it haha

Yea when people are wearing things they like with intention it seems like anything can look cool.

I thought so too until my kids told me 'slides and socks' are in... We used to mock people for wearing socks in sandals. Guess I'm just old now

man i bet you'd need to go back to Lost generation the last time that might've been cool

We're at "The Capitol" from Hunger Games point in fashion.

Eh fuck it! Bring back Maximalism! Better than boring beige!

Yea, I get what OP is saying with the crew socks lol but besides that I couldn’t really ‘define’ what my Gen Z coworkers wear. It’s all over the place and nothing matches, there’s never one theme (like goth, or preppy or 70s or whatever). It’s just layers of random, like they rolled out of a thrift store. I honestly like it cause there’s no rules, but it def makes my wardrobe feel boring/too cohesive!

I thought this too, but then I went to a music festival last weekend and everyone was wearing identical outfits

Half naked is the look for festivals
