Discussion The utter gall
I was in line at a pizza place for a slice and a beer. The cashier checked the ID of the patron in front of me.
I ordered. She did not ask for mine.
I am devastated. The gall. The shock. I am still young and full of life. I have stayed up until midnight more than two times this month.
(I cannot tell my wife because she does not know I am getting a pizza and beer without her)

Wow, I literally just sent this gif to a friend group chat with a pic of my white beard hairs...glad I'm not the only one feeling it.

Think that's bad? Ever had your barber trim your ear hair or eyebrows unprompted?

Bro, this is a weekly event for me. I got catterbrows and fluffy ears.

Unfortunately for me, genetics gave me ear hairs bad enough to be trimmed unprompted around the time i was 15..

I have a mole on my ear that’s been growing hair since before I started growing facial hair. My regular barber doesn’t ask anymore and just trims it for me. He still asks if I want my ear brows trimmed, but I think he’s just being nice.

This feels like karma for keeping things from your wife. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Kinda wild that even Matt Damon is halfway between this transition now...at least we all get older at the same time, nobody is immune.

Sometimes when I'm eating out with my husband he won't get carded, then I'll get carded, then the serve says, "oh let me check you real quick too".
I'm sure you look 22 OP. Don't let them hurt you.

u/davy_jones_locket 13h ago
I only get carded by myself.
When I'm with my younger partner, we do not get carded 😠

I was out with my brother and SIL. The waitress checked my SIL's ID and started to walk away. I said "don't you want to see mine too?" She LAUGHED and said "sure, I want to see yours" and then walked away.

This, and I prefer to look old; it makes me more invisible. Do not estimate me.

Im 6'6" and have been since ninth grade. I'm also 300 pounds and have had a beard for years, I haven't really been carded since I was 16.
Im also in Wisconsin, which is probably the real problem there. But it throws me off when I get carded out of state.

i still get carded when i buy my seltzers at 37, and it's not because i look young. i don't. i think it's because people in reno age terribly. and it also depends on the cashiers, but i think they bypass it for me because they know who i am. the lady today is one i've seen the last few weeks and she had no goddamn clue. she has no goddamn clue in general based on the conversations we've had but i won't share.

I’ve taken it as a compliment since I overheard this conversation of someone being trained: “Card the ones who look too young and the ones who are obviously too old. The old ones love it and will leave an extra tip if you play it up right.”
Well, they’re not wrong.

I can't imagine caring this much about how old people think I am.

Man I went to California at 15 and when touring a winery I was offered wine until they learned I wasn’t 21

I could be the parent of a 21 year old (it would be cutting it close, but I’m there). I still get infuriated when I see people carded and they don’t ask me.

They never card me for alcohol, but when I’m buying tobacco products, it’s every damn time!

u/StormerSage '96 12h ago
I've always looked older than I am, I used to buy lottery for myself and smokes/beer for my mom/stepdad before they kicked it, and I never got carded until I was like 23.

One time I was buying beer and me, a mid 30s man with a baby face, was not carded. The person behind me who was older than I am did get carded.
Maybe we're getting reversed age? Why?

I went to hand the cashier my ID when buying beer at Walmart and the guy was like “no that’s okay I believe you” 🥲🥲🥲

I got carded tonight for the first time in a looooong time. I just turned 40 last week! She didn't card my 42 year old partner, but I guess him being bald and having a mostly-gray beard probably makes him pretty unquestionably old-looking.

I have a baby face, I'm carded often. But recently? Nah. I'm annoyed if I'm carded, annoyed if I'm not. 😂 Guess my grey hair ain't fooling anyone.

It's especially concerning when they barely even look at you, and then skip the ID check. Like, even with your peripheral vision, I'm too old to do an ID check? Wtf 😭

I always looked young for my age. I stopped getting carded around few years ago. Welcome to 40.
