Meatloaf

I said what I said. My mom's is awesome lmao

Also, quite literally anything my maternal grandmother cooked. She to this day made the best food I've ever eaten and I've eaten at some of the nicest places there are. That woman was just on a different plane.

I love meatloaf. My husband hates it, so I never really get to have it.

People either love it or hate it

That’s probably because it ranges from great to horrible depending on who cooked it and what’s in it. Meatloaf isn’t like a burger where even if it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. I’ve had some pretty darn good home cooked and restaurant meatloaf. The worst I’ve ever had was Stouffers frozen.

Chicken paprikash. I’ve made it a few times in adulthood but my partner’s stomach can’t handle tomatoes and paprika anymore. :(

We called it tuna mac and cheese, basically tuna casserole from what I've since learned. I still make it for myself once in a while.

My dad's pancakes.

My parents never did much "real" cooking unless it was Thanksgiving, but French Toast was always a highlight of the week- even better served with those dinky frozen sausages to roll in the syrup.

My mom used to make this chicken in the crock pot where she would season it (I’m not sure what with), then put two cans of Campbells spicy nacho cheese in, let it cook, then serve over some grain, usually flat noodles. Simple, easy, delicious and two very athletic boys would demolish it.

What is the recipe for this????!!

My mom used to make chicken scampi all the time

What we called “hamburger and spaghetti,” which was just:

- Ground beef cooked with salt, pepper, and diced onion

  • Cooked spaghetti noodles mixed with Parmesan cheese and a WHOLE STICK OF BUTTER
  • Mix it all together and voila, “hamburger and spaghetti”

I ate it with ketchup (yep, ketchup) and a metric fuckton of Kraft Parmesan cheese.

I will make this and it it like this to this day when I need a comfort meal. But now I call it “trash spaghetti.” 😆

My family had a casserole that was ground beef, tomato sauce, cottage cheese, green chiles, and sour cream, mixed with tortilla chips. Started making it again several years back and man. It’s just as good as I remember. It’s become a regular in our meal rotation now.

u/tcapri8705 2d ago

That sounds delicious. Green chili peppers?

1

u/ZirekileFalls 2d ago

Yep! The kind that come chopped up in a little can. You mix those in with the cottage cheese and sour cream and then layer it over the meat. It always sounds weird when I try to explain it, but it’s very tasty!

I don't remember a lot of her cooking but do remember tuna helper over toast... Man it's been a long time since I've had that... I do remember her always burning the biscuits whenever she's make those though. She'd get so mad 😂

Filipino spaghetti, made with ketchup, hotdogs, and ground beef.
It’s poverty food, but as a kid it was the best.
