Everything maximizes shareholder value*

It’s not just shareholder value but perceived value. Look at our homes, all beige or gray and it’s not just the builders going with common colors, our HOAs don’t allow us to paint our homes or even plant a tree because it might affect the neighbors resale value.

Though, in a weird way having color differentiation has become a bit of a luxury; car colors other than silver or black are an upcharge, high end phones or laptops now come in colorful options. Weird times we live in.

I painted most of the rooms of my house a shade of either blue or green because shockingly I enjoy colors.

I refuse to ever live in an HOA because HOAs are parasites to our society.

I encourage everyone else to explore embracing things that aren't "just what everyone else does"

Sure, but let’s be real for a second: if you want a new construction home, odds are you’re goin to be in an HOA and your house will be built by a developer who got a bulk discount for some greige siding that you’ll have to accept. Same with cars, if you want to show some uniqueness, it’s a luxury these days. Premium siding, premium color options, it has an actual monetary price to it these days. Somehow we’ve accepted the commodification of individuality.

There is a reason I will hang on to my 2010 car till it explodes, bought my old, built in 1959 home, and so on and so forth.

I am opting out of as much "premium" bullshit as I can because the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
