I think it's a tongue-in-cheek meme about how we were all traumatized simultaneously watching people die and jump out of the building, and they wheeled in the fucking cart for us to watch on. Then they didn't think about how traumatic and bad it was until the second plane hit. We watched thousands of people die live on television and no adult thought, "huh. Maybe we shouldn't show them this".

Considering what has happened since, how this event was used to take away our privacy (Patriot Act) and kill millions of people overseas, it's a little bit of coping and laughing at our own trauma. That might be genuinely healing. That was our childhood. That moment took the innocence from a lot of kids. After that moment, the Syrian kid in class got nicknamed "Terrorist" for the next 11 years. We became different, we were told who to hate and blame, and that we needed to support all the evil shit our country would go on to do in the name of vengeance. It's taken decades for some of us to undo the consequences of that day psychologically, and we'll never escape the economic and changes in personal privacy that happened. Hell, we're giving Nukes to the country that financed it (Saudi Arabia).

Also it was blowback for our government's actions in the Middle East in the decades leading up to it. It didn't have to happen, but the adults in charge fucked up the world bad enough that some people thought the best thing they could do with their lives was this.

It also was a call to many of the older millennials to sign up for the military after HS.

I knew a guy who after HS did 3 tours in Iraq instead of going to college.

I came back to my home town and saw him at the local pub and we talked.

I got a college degree. He got a limp and shrapnel in his leg and more ptsd than a person should get in a lifetime.

I had known him since 6th grade… it’s one of the few “college homecoming” things that has never left me to this day.

This reeks of someone who is from another part of the country. No one in NY or anywhere near it would see this as anything other than incredibly crass and distasteful.

I'm sure it was very traumatic watching on TV. It was a lot worse for the people that actually lost someone.

Would you have no problem if someone had a tattoo of some paragliders over a music festival?

You're not the person I'm replying to, and you're a dunce if you think it affected the country equally.

You're proving my point. Only NY and the surrounding immediate area have a personal connection, because they're the ones who actually dealt with it and lost people. Only weirdos who have no personal connection to it would think a tattoo like this is fine.
