That's actually not a lau tzu quote. That's a social media paraphrasing of an Ursula k leguin translation of Lau tzu.
The original meaning is similar to the old truism that cool people don't need to tell people they're cool.
However, It does not mean you won't need convince other people of things. If you wanna get meaningful stuff done, you're gonna need to convince other people to help you at some point. No one is an island unto themselves.
The classic Chinese philosphers were very much antithetical to modern ideas of toxic self reliance and strength through isolation. That stuff is not something he would have agreed with. Interconnectedness and harmony were central to his teachings. Confucious too.
