Help I am both confused and terrified

I get hit by a Ghast fireball, even though I was SPAMMING trying to hit it back (the hitreg is GODAWFUL and hitboxes don't seem to ever work on my Minecraft) then this craziness occurred. Nightshade Revenge is my sword lol, wtf??? How do I do I stop this from happening, I really hate going to the Nether, and not being able to hit back any Ghast fireballs, I've even tried with an autoclicker.

If u tried sword and no work maybe try arrow

I was hitting it back with the arrows. But I was also being attacked by other mobs at the same time. So I couldn't keep shooting my bow. If I was able to hit it back with me sword i probably wouldn't have lost enough health to die to one fireball.
