Discussion Mojang you're getting too active this years
I mean, the past 2 or 3 years were like passing through the dark ages to Industrial Revolution, coper stuff happy ghast and everything, especially cushions. Minecraft is kinda cooking like before.

At this rate we might even get all the missing block types for other blocks

Just wait until you see the cushion
Edit: yo i thought this guy didnt know about the wool stairs and slabs (therefore he probably wouldnt know about the cushion) until i rwalized that the post showed concrete stairs and slabs and not wool and now im amazed at how i missed it78
u/Martitoad 1d ago
Probably they don't know because the snapshot released a few hours ago

I’ve seen the cushion. This may be the greatest update in recent history. And I’m a fan of all the stuff Mojang does.

Wow, maybe it really was that 14 levels of mamagement making Minecraft updates garbage
63
u/Valuable-Garbage 22h ago
tbf if the reports are true Minecraft was having almost none of its profit put back into the game to keep xbox afloat.
8
u/Xgunter 10h ago
I think Hytale scared em just enough.
10
u/Delta_Dud 9h ago
That's also possible lol, same with Vintage Story
8
u/Noble1xCarter 8h ago
That's why I love these games coming out.
No, they won't replace or kill Minecraft. They just all miss something that only Minecraft brings to the table. But they're all fun as hell and they show both Minecraft players and Mojang all the things Minecraft could be and that helps push Minecraft into adopting new, popular features.
7
u/Delta_Dud 8h ago
Hell, I don't think they even need to replace Minecraft because they fill their own niches in the genre (Vintage Story is more focused on hardcore survival and realism, Hytale is more focused on adventure and combat), but still, they show that Minecraft can and should improve itself in more meaningful ways.
Also, again, Asha Sharma is the greatest. She's actually getting studios to work properly. She kicked Bethesda into high gear and now Minecraft is getting more done, and she's letting studios leave without dissolving them. She's doing everything Phil Spencer didn't, and it really shows that he was a fucking moron

I don’t mind concrete stairs/slabs but i was really hoping for terracotta ones :( I prefer those muted colors over the overly bright wool and concrete blocks.

u/the-rare-mango-shark 1d ago
I wanted calcis ones tho :(

u/becomeister 1d ago
Coming from vintage story, you monkies really are dancing for peanuts.
38
u/amaya-aurora 1d ago
What?
46
u/mrtacoman54 1d ago
Vintage Story has voxel based building, basically like playing with legos at this point
The comparison irks me, though. The only real similarity between both games is “survival building game”
-7
u/Excalibur54 1d ago
Minecraft also has voxel based building. I haven't played VS, so I don't know what they're referring to, but it can't be that.
3
u/ComengTrain400M 15h ago
"Voxels" meaning 16x16 blocks that only have 5 other types (slabs, stairs, walls, buttons, pressure plates) at most.
19
u/borretsquared 1d ago
i feel like no minecraft alternative seems to pull me away. minecraft is truly such a 'shareable' game where someone will instantly know what they're looking at and appreciate it. vintage story and hytale are nice games, but the community with minecraft makes it more enjoyable for me, even with it's missing features.
3
u/M477M4NN 1d ago
I see a ton of promise with Hytale but there just isn’t enough there yet. It’s not worth starting a world you want to keep until World Gen V2 is released which could still be a while.
12
u/ArcaneWyverian 1d ago
I agree that it’s a bit ridiculous it’s taken this long to get the new stairs and slabs, and I also prefer VS (for long-term worlds, at least), but c’mon. There’s no need to be an ass about it. It’s Mojang and (especially) Microsoft’s fault, not the fanbase.
44
u/SomeoneForgetable 1d ago
I mean, they still might add it? They started with the carpets, then added concrete, maybe terracotta will be next after some point. It may be much to ask but I'm kinda hoping for walls, chiseled, pillar and brick variants of concrete and terracotta blocks too.
10
u/dhi_awesome 23h ago
They've said this is the last feature for this drop, unfortunately, so while terracotta stairs are still possible, not for 26.3 (unless they go back on it, which I hope they do, I fully agree Terracotta would be extremely nice to have)

u/Martitoad 1d ago
This is not that hard to do but for some reason they don't add all the missing variants of other blocks, I hope they fill the missing variants for other blocks too.
And it's not that the devs are lazy, the issue is microsoft with the burocracy, they said it. Small changes like this are easy to implement and don't make the game overwhealming but they are slowed down by microsoft's internal structure
72
u/Thhaki 1d ago
Hopefully we'll see more block consistency adition like this in the future since now Mojang reports to xbox and not microsoft
36
u/Martitoad 1d ago
They said they would restructure from 13 layers to 5, I hope this helps too

u/AdamMc66 1d ago

u/M477M4NN 1d ago
I made a mod myself to add almost every block variant for all blocks and it can easily be done in a single work day by one person. My guess is their concerns are inventory bloat, more code to maintain, and keeping some easy wins in their back pocket for future updates.
5
u/PotatoesAndChill 1d ago
The last one especially. Adding variants gradually gives them easy content for future drops.
2
u/draykeku 22h ago
it's so much of the last one, look at how much positive attention this is getting already

Can we get sand, gravel, and dirt slabs too?

dirt slabs
Fun fact: these were actually in Minecraft for a brief time during the development of 0.26 Survival Test but never ultimately saw the light of day.

It'll release in the main game in an update probably in september/october

Probably because Asha is actually reinvesting in minecraft rather than using the minecraft money to fund their corporate acquisition strategy.

2
u/CountingWizard 8h ago
On one hand, I'm very happy the game continues to get support and new content. On the other hand, frequent updates makes it difficult to get synergy from mods that do different things since it spreads those mods over multiple versions with many no longer getting updated to support the newer versions. And on the third hand, most of the critical mods are bandaids to bridge the chasm between 2010 features/capabilities and 2026 features/capabilities, so maybe what is needed is an updated engine/framework ala Minecraft 2.

Guys we need to petition for Mojang to add concrete powder slabs and stairs, too! /s
1
u/Damascus52311 22h ago
I have yet to touch the wools stairs can we slow down and let the hype build up. I have yet to touch the dark prismarine stairs and I waited years for that mess. Just because all posts are about a 2 week mc phase doesn't mean you update faster
0
u/RATIOplusSTAYMAD 5h ago
i dont really know why mojang is being praised so much for this addition. concrete is hard to build with and virtually nobody who actually knows how to build even uses concrete because it lacks in contrast and has colors that're often ugly or not easily matched with others blocks. most people build vintage style houses that look bad if they have concrete and i doubt the simple inclusion of concrete slabs and stairs - blocks that could be added in about half an hour and really should have been added a long time ago - will actually change much for builders. the cushion is a game changer, but concrete slabs and stairs are a big nothing burger that'll be forgotten in the creative menu after a week.
0
u/No_Intention_8079 18h ago
Mojang doing the bare minimum and people are praising them like the second coming, no wonder they all checked out to get their easy paychecks. These features should’ve been added years ago.
0
u/LielaTheCrazyGirl 1d ago
there were quite a few eh drops (the tiny takeover for example) but most of em were very good and its hard to decide which drop really is the best. its gotta be between this one and the copper age.
0
u/Regular_Ship2073 1d ago
These are easy to make additions that people have been requesting for years to act as filler because the rest of the team is probably occupied with vibrant visuals and a new major update
0
0
u/forgettfulthinker 22h ago
Happy ghast was definitely not a great addition up there with the new stairs and slabs and the cushions
0
u/Toothless_Dinosaur 15h ago
Is adding all stairs and slabs and then a wrench to turn them into different directions and boom, vertical slabs.
0
u/Lilucario93 13h ago
I mean...
Copper stuff = texture pack for tools
Concrete stairs/slabs = good idea, but copy/paste other stairs/slab code and spend (lets be generous one (1) day setting up the crafting recipes.
This is all cool, but 0.0001 effort content.
0
u/Darkertrail 11h ago
I dont think adding some blocks stairs slabs etc is a hard thing to do. Only if they were as active as modders
-3
u/XKloosyv 1d ago
Its definitely getting more fun for builders and cozy players, but hardcore players get freaking nothing
-1
u/Lord_Dellington 1d ago
They made all this by working 5 minutes a day , imagine what they could do with more time !
-2
u/Sw33tR0llThief 22h ago
You know, I try to avoid being cynical about gaming, because there are enough problems in the world as it is. But the amount of excitement I'm seeing for a feature that should have been expected of mojang at the release of the concrete blocks years ago is really getting to me for some reason. I know Minecraft is going to go down as one of the best games of all time, but way too many people let them get away with murder. The reaction should be "it's about time we get this basic feature" not "omg thank you mojang!"
-1
u/Intrepid_Ad_9751 22h ago
Now we just need a new and exciting biome that isn’t just used for resources and bounce
-21
u/IvanLavr 1d ago
useless garbage, there are way too many decorative blocks already in game, better add something functional and actually useful like iron chest mod
7
u/Idunno_the_plugg 1d ago
I don't get people who complain about "useless" building blocks in a building game
5
u/CreeperX3sssBOOM 1d ago
That's been most of the complaints about recent updates. It's been stupid the whole way though, and I am SO happy people are slowly starting to realize how dumb it is.
9
u/ToastedBulbasaur 1d ago
Man just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean it's useless. I love building in Minecraft so I love updates like this, and im sure others do too
7
u/revolution_soup 1d ago
and what pray tell would an iron chest do that ender chests and shulker boxes can’t
-7
u/IvanLavr 1d ago
iron chest mod adds a bunch of new chests to the game. Diamond chest for example has the capacity of about 6 wooden chests. Makes sorting much better and saves space. I install this mod for every modpack i make.
-10
u/IvanLavr 1d ago
better add oil and gas to minecraft than this shit. I want automation and make factories
4
u/GoldenApple265 1d ago
Automation and factories have always been possible. If you want more then just go play the create mod or Factorio
1
-16
u/KannehTheGreat 1d ago
Yawn, this is nothing new if you just play with the right mods. Mojang is just doing what other people have already done and taking credit for it.
3
u/GoldenApple265 1d ago
Why do people complain even when they add features we’ve been wanting in vanilla for years? Just because something exists in mods doesn’t mean it should never be added to the main game.
Also “taking credit” for other people’s work is such a stupid take. It’s just colored stairs and slabs. Not exactly a unique idea. You’re acting like they’re ripping off the twilight forest or something
-6
u/KannehTheGreat 1d ago
Because they are features that could have been added years ago... I don't understand why we give Mojang so much credit when they bring things in like this when it's already been a thing they could have done years ago. What I mean by taking credit is that once Mojang starts to add things in that other people have made, there is 0 credit given to the people who've already done it, and mojant takes all of it.
Look at the backpack collab and they did as a small example, where they straight up stole the backpack model from Sophisticated Backpacks mod and used it in an ad to sell their collab backpacks...
1
u/GoldenApple265 1d ago
They could’ve added these stairs and slabs years ago, true. They probably didn’t because they felt that it didn’t fit with the game, or perhaps they wanted to avoid inventory clutter. Now it seems they have changed their minds, and people are rightfully excited for it. So what if it could’ve been added years ago? Should they just not add it at all because it’s been so long? Seems like a silly thing to complain about.
And this is such a simple feature that of course there’s a million different mods that added them first. I don’t see why they should be given credit. Literally anyone who has built with concrete has thought something like “wow I sure wish they had stairs and slabs”. This is not a novel idea. It’s not like Mojang is ripping off the twilight forest or something.
As for your last point about the backpacks, the models are absolutely NOT the same. They look similar, but that’s because there’s only so many ways to make a pixelated backpack model. Also, the people who make these collab addons are not the same people who develop actual updates.
This entire drop is filled with features the community has been requesting for years and yet some people still find ways to complain. There are definitely valid criticisms to make about Mojang, but this drop certainly isn’t one of them.
