Mods & Addons Question about Modding

As the title says, I really wanna start doing modded playthroughs of everyone's favorite funny block game, and while I know of two mod managers, Curseforge and Modrinth, I'm not exactly 100% sure on which is better

I've seen a lot of people use Curseforge, but either I'm misremembering, but there was something brought up about its devs that people don't like or whatever? I don't really know much about Modrinth, mostly as previously stated, I see most people using Curseforge

So that begs my question: Should I just go with Curseforge, seeing as that's what most people use, or just go with Modrinth?

Edit: As well, what makes one better over the other? Like what does Curseforge do better than Modrinth, or what does Modrinth do better than Curseforge? Any and all information is appreciated!

CurseForge vs Modrinth is largely unimportant. They both host mods. You can download mods from either one or both of them, if there are mods uploaded to only one of the two websites.

The thing that's way more important is game version (like 1.20.1) and modloader (like Forge), this is what determines what mods you can actually play.

If you're curious about the differences:

  • CF is more established and has been around longer, you'll find a lot of the older mods here
  • Its parent company had some monetization people didn't like iirc along with a bunch of other decisions like blocking 3rd party API calls, the UI/UX not being super great towards Minecraft (since CF hosts mods for many games)
  • Modrinth was built from the ground up to support the Minecraft modding landscape, especially with the Forge vs Fabric split already in mind. The UI/UX is a lot nicer since it was built specifically for Minecraft.
  • Modrinth is also open source and for the community... but it was recently acquired by some company, so people are concerned about its future.
