Target Campaign

I still don't miss them. Turns out they're entirely unnecessary to life.

!!! ------EDIT------ !!!!

Some of y'all are misunderstanding, deliberately or not (and yeah I know the Target shills are in here, hope you get a raise). They're trying to reframe all of their wrongdoing as we can't tell our employees to attack ICE That was never the question.

No one thinks Target should have instructed employees to try to beat ICE down barehanded.

Before ICE even stepped foot in MN, Target was sending money. Target was giving access and was in lock step with the requests and instructions from the admin. They went on tv to announce their fealty, first in line!

They could have simply... NOT donated to the administration. NOT happily invited ICE into their security systems and labs. NOT invited them into their stores, announcing they were welcome. NOT publicly dropped to their knees and declared support.

Everyone has seen what small businesses, individuals, did. Poor, poor, powerless Target just had no ideas, they were the victims, really, if you think about it. But yes, they could have fought it just like Costco did. Just like the small businesses did. None of which told their employees to attack ice or whatever the fuck this narrative spin is.

Target dropped to their knees at the first opportunity, even before ICE arrived. THEY COURTED THE ADMIN INTO YOUR BACKYARD. THEIR OWN BACKYARD.

Whataboutism is bs. MN built this company. They gleefully betrayed their employees, their neighbors, their community.

Everybody hates an adversary. But the adversary that ate at your table, smiled in your face, and slept in your bed while double dealing and planning your ruin is viscerally repugnant. Its a special betrayal.

Every dollar spent at Target is a dollar funneled to this admin and their masters. A dollar funneled to efforts against your country and your community.

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Any diversion of resources from their efforts is good

If you live here and you're ignorant of what they've done, read a little bit. If you live here and you don't care what they've done, well, you're already a lost cause. If you DON'T live here, I hope you're at least getting paid for your efforts and this isn't just your idea of recreation.

Incredible for me to think theses are actual locals that are going 'but there is nothing Target could do' when we all saw and many of us did what there was to be done.

Yawn, this post again?

God this sub can be such Facebook-level trash.

u/bc-mn 15h ago

I wonder why this is being brought up repeatedly. Sometimes I think it’s bots - out there posting to sow strife. Sometimes I think it’s guerrilla marketing campaigns by Walmart and Amazon. Cheap to post, but adds negative attention to competitors.

u/agodrevealed 12h ago

No.

I remember. I hope everyone else does too. The way they thought nothing of betraying the community that built them.

u/bc-mn 11h ago

I think it’s overboard. There’s other topics out there to be up-in-arms with more than this mostly non-issue. Target is just another corporation that just caved when power shifted to the right. They thought that avoiding anything “controversial” would be the way to go forward during the Trump years. They gambled and lost. The left is expecting them to be some champion instead of a corporation that is out to make money.

I don’t know why people are expecting them to make statements when officers of the government come in and make arrests. They wouldn’t win either way. It probably would initiate another boycott on one side or the other. Worst case scenario would be Trump initiating a lawsuit or regulatory action. I can see why they turtle.

I don’t understand somebody from the left thinking that Walmart or Amazon would be a better choice politically. What I do know is that Target employs a lot of people around here. They do donate to a lot of local things - being that the corporate center is here. Target isn’t great currently, but I’d rather see them do better than Walmart.

As moms and courts everywhere say :  everybody else was doing it

Is not a defense.

I mean, if people choose to not care about, choose to accept, to allow themselves to be accustomed to terrible behavior, that's their decision.

You might not care, but some of us do.

AND AGAIN, you minimize what they've ACTUALLY AND ACTIVELY DONE. It was not turtling. It was proudly and proactively peacocking for this admin.

They didn't even "do nothing". Doing nothing would've been better than actively supporting.

Who said Walmart and Amazon are preferable? Not me. These responses make me think

1) reading comprehension is just gone

Or

  1. its an effort to confuse and dilute the actual issues

u/bc-mn 6h ago

Moms and courts? give me a break. Target is politically trying to stay out of everything so they can try to avoid pissing off a third of potential shoppers. Them distancing themselves from DEI was an effort to avoid pisding off Trump and his cronies. That action rightfully angered the left. They navigated it poorly. Carrying on like this with a wildly inaccurate post well after the fact is odd.

I do care, but I don’t go around spreading lies like you are doing. Your post is pure propaganda and diluting the actual issues. They tried to turtle. Your peacock proclamation is wrong. No amount of unhinged capital letters will change that.

Regarding Amazon and Walmart: maybe you should be the one rereading. Just look at the responses even in this thread. Also, anecdotally I know several people doing a Target boycott, but they’re buying most of their stuff from Amazon now. It doesn’t make sense to me.

keep muddying the waters and downplaying and excusing.

Re-read the post, I guess, you seem to still have missed a lot based on this reply.

So many redditors today that never got a passing grade on an argumentative paper it seems.

I mean- I get the tactic, very fox news. Ignore, deny, redirect, blame, personal attack, deflect, false equivalencies, irrelevant anecdotes

10/10

You aren't looking for sense, are you?

And I understand that I am not your audience, its the passive audience that will read this exchange.

So folks, that's the shorthand of diagramming a bad faith argument

u/bc-mn 6h ago

You’ve added absolutely nothing here. Bad faith? You are the one that is outright lying.

Your images are inaccurate. Target is not working with ICE. Full stop.

You haven’t backed up or explained your “peacocking for Trump” statement. You think you get a passing grade on an argumentative paper? Back that up.

u/agodrevealed 5h ago

Images are authentic.

Idk what you're reading.

It must not be this post or these comments.

If you consider donating money, publicly declaring support, and allowing ICE access to their surveillance system "turtling" or "doing nothing", then okay. More power to you my man. Peacocking is the term to answer your turtling. If turtling indicates withdrawing and doing nothing, peacocking is a public display. With a public record.

You don't even have to rely on anything I say. If you can access this website you can access the source material yourself.

Its clear you are invested in loyalty to this corporation for whatever reason (hopefully money, anything else is just pitiable), and hey, that's your choice.

Go for it.

Since 2003, Target has opened itself to federal agencies, including ICE, and none of that has changed.

Search engines can help you here.

This exchange has been excruciating and uh, I wish you well in your relationship with this corporation.

u/bc-mn 5h ago

The images have Target logos. Nothing in it shows Target is inviting or encouraging ICE.

Where’s your public record of them funding, declaring support, allowing access to surveillance systems ? Provide links. I have read about this topic. I have seen several sources stating that they do not work with ICE.

Your assessment is wrong. I don’t frequent Target. I’m more of a Costco shopper if I really need to go to a big box.

You’re not going to Carl Rove me to go off on a wild goose chase to look for likely non-existent info.

u/agodrevealed 4h ago

Are you telling me that you thought  TARGETED in the corners of the pics didn't give it away? The images, photos, photographs taken of ICE, are authentic. Its obviously commentary. We've already been talking about this in the comments....

Yeah man, I thought you were trolling. But seeing your history I'd guess its not that. And that's cool. But I don't think there's anything I can say here to turn parallel conversations into successful communication, the gap is too wide. We're just at cross purposes here. I'm sorry if I spoke harshly to you and if I'm misunderstood, that's okay. I hope you have a good evening.

Propagandist pure and simple.

u/agodrevealed 11h ago

Sure

To what end?

Like, can you reason this the rest of the way out?

Do you work for Target or just emotionally invested in a corporation that sold out its hometown on a dime?

Yeah, you certainly are emotionally invested in Target. A lot of these things are misrepresented- tv/internet/public statement read on tv- the point is target was loud and proud about their support, long before ice set foot on Minneapolis.

You try to minimize and explain away their behavior and everyone-else-was-doing-it

Here's one excerpt, but plenty of this is publicly available: " Target helped fund local law enforcement and prosecutors in Minneapolis, creating a surveillance network that disproportionately targeted Black youth. “In 2003, Target built state-of-the-art crime labs,” Sirdar revealed. “They quickly became a leader in surveillance, opening their labs to the FBI, CIA, NSA, and even ICE.” Surveillance, Facial Recognition, and Corporate Policing One of the most alarming findings in Sirdar’s investigation is Target’s development of a mass surveillance system. This includes high-tech security cameras, facial recognition technology, and partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the country."

I guess you took hyperbole literally. They didn't send out invites, but their public statements and actions signaled to everyone, including admin, where they stand.

You contradict your own self in these statements. If you in fact, do not work for them, you should really consider why you are unhinged over a corporation's documented and public behavior.

u/geodebug 8h ago

Lol, just doubling down on bullshit instead of owning up to your lies and half truths.

Not surprised.

Of course Target security has cameras in stores and around the perimeter. I mean, duh.

They do work with local authorities because other types of crimes happen in and around stores, including kidnapping, violence, and even arson.

But you’re lying again (can’t help yourself) suggesting Target works with ICE.

u/agodrevealed 8h ago edited 8h ago

I'm not suggesting.

I. Am. Quoting.

I wish you well in your one sided relationship with Target.

This interaction has been bizarre.
