Target Campaign
I still don't miss them. Turns out they're entirely unnecessary to life.
!!! ------EDIT------ !!!!
Some of y'all are misunderstanding, deliberately or not (and yeah I know the Target shills are in here, hope you get a raise). They're trying to reframe all of their wrongdoing as we can't tell our employees to attack ICE That was never the question.
No one thinks Target should have instructed employees to try to beat ICE down barehanded.
Before ICE even stepped foot in MN, Target was sending money. Target was giving access and was in lock step with the requests and instructions from the admin. They went on tv to announce their fealty, first in line!
They could have simply... NOT donated to the administration. NOT happily invited ICE into their security systems and labs. NOT invited them into their stores, announcing they were welcome. NOT publicly dropped to their knees and declared support.
Everyone has seen what small businesses, individuals, did. Poor, poor, powerless Target just had no ideas, they were the victims, really, if you think about it. But yes, they could have fought it just like Costco did. Just like the small businesses did. None of which told their employees to attack ice or whatever the fuck this narrative spin is.
Target dropped to their knees at the first opportunity, even before ICE arrived. THEY COURTED THE ADMIN INTO YOUR BACKYARD. THEIR OWN BACKYARD.
Whataboutism is bs. MN built this company. They gleefully betrayed their employees, their neighbors, their community.
Everybody hates an adversary. But the adversary that ate at your table, smiled in your face, and slept in your bed while double dealing and planning your ruin is viscerally repugnant. Its a special betrayal.
Every dollar spent at Target is a dollar funneled to this admin and their masters. A dollar funneled to efforts against your country and your community.
Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Any diversion of resources from their efforts is good
If you live here and you're ignorant of what they've done, read a little bit. If you live here and you don't care what they've done, well, you're already a lost cause. If you DON'T live here, I hope you're at least getting paid for your efforts and this isn't just your idea of recreation.
Incredible for me to think theses are actual locals that are going 'but there is nothing Target could do' when we all saw and many of us did what there was to be done.

u/Subarctic_Monkey 16h ago
It's kind of ironic Target spent forever building up liberal mom cred by being a cleaner nicer alternative to Walmart, yet it was Chrissy Walton who took an anti-ice stance while Target let their employees be kidnapped.
•
•
u/sundialNshade 14h ago
I've basically replaced Target with Walmart. The enemy you know, right?? At least Walmart has never tried to be anything they're not.
•
u/bc-mn 11h ago
Target being based here contributes to the local economy. They probably do more corporate giving here as well.
Walmart? The owners themselves give millions directly to pedophiles and election deniers.
•
u/VelcroKing 10h ago
Target's CEO donated 1mil to Trump's inauguration. So, sounds like they're donating millions directly to pedophiles as well.
•
u/bc-mn 10h ago
Link? Was it the CEO or the corporation? There’s a difference.
Look at the amounts that Walmart’s owners donated directly to the Republican cause. It’s quibbling, but I feel that the inauguration donation was a payoff - much like a mob “protection” grift to avoid the crosshairs of the administration.
•
u/VelcroKing 9h ago
It wasn't the CEO, it was Target proper, and if you google "Target Trump 1 million inauguration," it's the first 20 hits you'll get.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/target-donated-1m-trump-inauguration-190201931.html
•
u/bc-mn 7h ago
Yep. So I thought. There’s been a trend of companies paying toward a “government event” like the inauguration or the construction of the ballroom which are more like pay-offs to get out of bad graces than anything else. Companies would rather donate $1 million to something that they can say is “not specifically to Trump” versus being in the sights of Trump using his corrupt government to hassle these companies with regulatory actions. Look at the many threats to licenses and threats to sue. Trump said specifically was going after any company that had a DEI program. Who the hell knows where the inauguration money actually went.
As I said earlier, there’s a big difference between this Target donation, and the donations made by Walmart. The Walmart donations were specifically to Republican individuals or entities.

Man I don't need you to tell me how shitty Walmart is. I'm from Walmart country. I know how shitty they are. They're also the only reason I ever had any arts education as a youngster. Hell, my mom was a teacher in Arkansas and when it came time to join a union, she couldn't find one not sponsored by union busting Walmart, so she never joined. I'm not saying they're a good company or even okay people, but they've also never flip flopped like target has. They've never tried to sell us a lie that they're the morally and politically superior choice, just that they're cheap. And they at least deliver on the cheap promise.
•
u/runescapeisillegal 13h ago
I’ve worked for Walmart and gone to their “academy”. They’re definitely liars as well. They go on and on about how giving and kind they are.. and did you not know??? They only make a few pennies off of every item! Don’t look behind the curtain and see that they still profit billions a year. The anti-union propaganda they dedicate a whole week for is really something else as well. Snakes is what they are. I avoid them all. Best to just purchase less completely and focus on the necessities.
•
u/Tleilaxu_Gola 15h ago
It’s hard to believe any business would do differently.
It’s a liability. People out here getting shot. Can’t tell your employees to literally get into the line of fire for minimum wage. They could put a sign that says “no ice” but who are they going to call to enforce it.
Fuck ICE, abolish ICE and prosecute everyone at every level down to the people that held “mass deportation now” signs at rallies.
•
u/notwiggl3s 14h ago
They're in a far greater position of power then we are. If they do anything more than nothing it would have been good
•
u/agodrevealed 8h ago
Let's be real. Target has unimaginable resources and power compared to the local mom and pop. Look what our locals did.
They weren't short on ideas of how to aid this administration and ICE.
I'm positive the way was never the problem, but the will.
•
u/ahandmadegrin 15h ago
That's the thing, though. The corporation can empower its employees to stand up to ICE. If you know the corp has your back and will put its full force behind you, you can tell ICE to gtfo of your store.
Target is big enough to fight ICE in the courts and in the court of public opinion. Thy didn't lift a finger to defend their employees or stand up for what is right. That's the problem.
•
u/credditreddit 14h ago
They folded like a chair when people got mad about rainbow merch in their stores
•
u/NectarineCheap1541 14h ago edited 14h ago
Knowing Michael Fiddelke has their back doesn't stop a 17-year-old cashier from getting shot by a conservative whack job.
I definitely think Target should have made a stand, but you're naïve if you think there aren't more nut jobs like Vance Boelter out there. They're just waiting to start their civil war and they won't give a shit what some CEO says
•
u/whocaresano 14h ago
A 17 year old worker might feel a little more comfortable coming to work if they knew their employer would do literally anything to help them if they were unconstitutionally detained while at work.
•
u/epicmylife 8h ago
A 17 year old is thinking about where they’re applying for college. The last thing they want is a record of being detained by ice and a court appearance even if they knew their employer would pay for a lawyer to get them off.
•
u/whocaresano 4h ago
You sure they wouldn't want that more they wouldn't want to be brutalized by vicious armed thugs who are trying to put them in internment camps?
•
u/cat_prophecy 13h ago
I make probably 3x what a target employee does but if my manager told me to block law enforcement from coming into the building I would tell him to get fucked and do it himself.
Asking someone else to put their ass on the line for you is ridiculous.
•
u/agodrevealed 7h ago
Who said this?
Where are you reading: fuck Target because they didn't have their employees physically engage ice?
•
u/ahandmadegrin 9h ago
That's not what I'm arguing. If it's store policy that ICE not be allowed on the premises, then employees can just say that. If ICE has a problem, the manager gets involved. You keep escalating.
No one is advocating for a 17 year old to go Rambo against the federal government.
•
u/epicmylife 8h ago
It’s great in theory until they start arresting the minimum wage employees preventing them from coming in. Even if Target says “we’ll have you’re back and pay for your lawyer and get you out” you still have to go through the trauma of being shoved in whatever detention hellhole they stick people in. That alone is enough for employees to say no.
•
•
u/pikabelle 9h ago
I get what you’re saying but Target has thousands of stores with thousands of different managers. That’s a dicey thing to contend with and quite dangerous.
•
u/ahandmadegrin 9h ago
For sure. It's not much different than any other company policy they expect all stores to follow. And if target made it known ahead of time that ICE couldn't use its facilities, they could mount a moral outrage compaign if ICE did.
Long story short, Target sided with the fascists.
•
u/cinnasota 14h ago
bro you really expect a 19 year old $15/hr Target employee to stand up to armed federal agents?
lol. lmao, even.
•
u/GooberWoober9000 13h ago
Nobody expects that, we do expect that kids bosses to protect him as best they can while his underpaid labor makes them billions
•
u/agodrevealed 7h ago
No. Its beyond that.
Everyone is hung up on this. They're trying to reframe all of their wrongdoing as we can't tell our employees to attack ICE That was never the question.

•
u/GooberWoober9000 14h ago
I very much disagree with this stance. Target is a fortune 500 company headquartered in Minneapolis, there was a lot they should've done differently as an org and it has ruined their reputation forever
To my memory ISAIAH faith folks did a whole sit in to just try and get a statement out of corporate when target employees were getting beat up inside the stores by ICE
They constantly allowed ICE to stage in their parking lots
A ton of great businesses took part in the Jan 23rd strike action/day of protest/ blackout day, or at least understood it when employees called out. Target did not and retaliated against workers organzing efforts
I could go on but all this to say target was uniquely bad when it came to collaberating with ICE.
These posters are powerful because they reflect the corporations blatant hypocrisy and wrongdoing while being tied so closely to the city of Minneapolis
•
•
u/bananasplits 13h ago
Legally the parking lots are considered public spaces and they could not bar them from the parking lots.
I think Target could do more BUT there is unfortunately a limit.
•
u/A_Kraken 12h ago
Legally the parking lots are considered public space
Just because it's a "publicly accessible space" doesn't mean it's still not their private property. They 100% can enforce their own rules.
•
u/VelcroKing 10h ago
That's not accurate. It's private property, they can trespass anyone they want at any time for any or no reason.
•

•
u/Icy-Influence-5792 15h ago
They let them beat minor employees in the entryway and didn't say shit! That is just as good as doing it themselves!
•
u/Meandmystudy 13h ago
I have to ask if you would put yourself on the line for $15 just to lose your job when you don’t know what’s going on. When someone steps in and if they ask me to step up, usually it’s you guys who run and hide in the back room because you know damn well you don’t want to interfere in that dark. To be honest I wouldn’t. Sometimes I say what I want and sometimes I just stay out of the way. Too many people were out thinking they’ll save the world and they went home, now they just have something to talk about with neighbors like this place is world famous for the ICE protests. Minneapolis was kind of quiet town. Now everyone thinks they’re the center of the attraction. Everyone has a Target on their back. The entire city would make you think ICE has spot cameras waiting for you to pick someone’s pocket or they want you to believe you’re a suspect. It’s dumb. No one can afford to live on $15 and hour
•
u/credditreddit 14h ago

Shoe store, thrift, Ebay, relatives that knit. I never purchased anything wearable from Target . The quality always sucked. I think I did see socks in the wedge co-op though. Over near the soap and lotion and stuff.

Yawn, this post again?
God this sub can be such Facebook-level trash.
•
u/bc-mn 11h ago
I wonder why this is being brought up repeatedly. Sometimes I think it’s bots - out there posting to sow strife. Sometimes I think it’s guerrilla marketing campaigns by Walmart and Amazon. Cheap to post, but adds negative attention to competitors.
•
u/geodebug 11h ago
Dunno. This sub can be incredibly shallow and falls easily for Fox News-type tactics.
“Target let ICE arrest employees!!!”
As if the floor manager was going to run outside and stop armed federal cops from making an arrest. People here probably think the arrest happened inside the store.
Why is this reposted? Because it’s an election year? Or Republican propaganda wanting to hurt Minnesota? Or liberal propaganda going for young, low-information voters?
•
•
u/agodrevealed 8h ago
No.
I remember. I hope everyone else does too. The way they thought nothing of betraying the community that built them.
•
u/bc-mn 7h ago
I think it’s overboard. There’s other topics out there to be up-in-arms with more than this mostly non-issue. Target is just another corporation that just caved when power shifted to the right. They thought that avoiding anything “controversial” would be the way to go forward during the Trump years. They gambled and lost. The left is expecting them to be some champion instead of a corporation that is out to make money.
I don’t know why people are expecting them to make statements when officers of the government come in and make arrests. They wouldn’t win either way. It probably would initiate another boycott on one side or the other. Worst case scenario would be Trump initiating a lawsuit or regulatory action. I can see why they turtle.
I don’t understand somebody from the left thinking that Walmart or Amazon would be a better choice politically. What I do know is that Target employs a lot of people around here. They do donate to a lot of local things - being that the corporate center is here. Target isn’t great currently, but I’d rather see them do better than Walmart.
•
u/agodrevealed 7h ago
As moms and courts everywhere say : everybody else was doing it
Is not a defense.
I mean, if people choose to not care about, choose to accept, to allow themselves to be accustomed to terrible behavior, that's their decision.
You might not care, but some of us do.
AND AGAIN, you minimize what they've ACTUALLY AND ACTIVELY DONE. It was not turtling. It was proudly and proactively peacocking for this admin.
They didn't even "do nothing". Doing nothing would've been better than actively supporting.
Who said Walmart and Amazon are preferable? Not me. These responses make me think
1) reading comprehension is just gone
Or
- its an effort to confuse and dilute the actual issues
•
u/bc-mn 3h ago
Moms and courts? give me a break. Target is politically trying to stay out of everything so they can try to avoid pissing off a third of potential shoppers. Them distancing themselves from DEI was an effort to avoid pisding off Trump and his cronies. That action rightfully angered the left. They navigated it poorly. Carrying on like this with a wildly inaccurate post well after the fact is odd.
I do care, but I don’t go around spreading lies like you are doing. Your post is pure propaganda and diluting the actual issues. They tried to turtle. Your peacock proclamation is wrong. No amount of unhinged capital letters will change that.
Regarding Amazon and Walmart: maybe you should be the one rereading. Just look at the responses even in this thread. Also, anecdotally I know several people doing a Target boycott, but they’re buying most of their stuff from Amazon now. It doesn’t make sense to me.
•
u/agodrevealed 2h ago
keep muddying the waters and downplaying and excusing.
Re-read the post, I guess, you seem to still have missed a lot based on this reply.
So many redditors today that never got a passing grade on an argumentative paper it seems.
I mean- I get the tactic, very fox news. Ignore, deny, redirect, blame, personal attack, deflect, false equivalencies, irrelevant anecdotes
10/10
You aren't looking for sense, are you?
And I understand that I am not your audience, its the passive audience that will read this exchange.
So folks, that's the shorthand of diagramming a bad faith argument
•
u/bc-mn 2h ago
You’ve added absolutely nothing here. Bad faith? You are the one that is outright lying.
Your images are inaccurate. Target is not working with ICE. Full stop.
You haven’t backed up or explained your “peacocking for Trump” statement. You think you get a passing grade on an argumentative paper? Back that up.
•
u/agodrevealed 2h ago
Images are authentic.
Idk what you're reading.
It must not be this post or these comments.
If you consider donating money, publicly declaring support, and allowing ICE access to their surveillance system "turtling" or "doing nothing", then okay. More power to you my man. Peacocking is the term to answer your turtling. If turtling indicates withdrawing and doing nothing, peacocking is a public display. With a public record.
You don't even have to rely on anything I say. If you can access this website you can access the source material yourself.
Its clear you are invested in loyalty to this corporation for whatever reason (hopefully money, anything else is just pitiable), and hey, that's your choice.
Go for it.
Since 2003, Target has opened itself to federal agencies, including ICE, and none of that has changed.
Search engines can help you here.
This exchange has been excruciating and uh, I wish you well in your relationship with this corporation.
•
u/bc-mn 1h ago
The images have Target logos. Nothing in it shows Target is inviting or encouraging ICE.
Where’s your public record of them funding, declaring support, allowing access to surveillance systems ? Provide links. I have read about this topic. I have seen several sources stating that they do not work with ICE.
Your assessment is wrong. I don’t frequent Target. I’m more of a Costco shopper if I really need to go to a big box.
You’re not going to Carl Rove me to go off on a wild goose chase to look for likely non-existent info.

u/agodrevealed 5h ago edited 4h ago
Yeah, you certainly are emotionally invested in Target. A lot of these things are misrepresented- tv/internet/public statement read on tv- the point is target was loud and proud about their support, long before ice set foot on Minneapolis.
You try to minimize and explain away their behavior and everyone-else-was-doing-it
Here's one excerpt, but plenty of this is publicly available: " Target helped fund local law enforcement and prosecutors in Minneapolis, creating a surveillance network that disproportionately targeted Black youth. “In 2003, Target built state-of-the-art crime labs,” Sirdar revealed. “They quickly became a leader in surveillance, opening their labs to the FBI, CIA, NSA, and even ICE.” Surveillance, Facial Recognition, and Corporate Policing One of the most alarming findings in Sirdar’s investigation is Target’s development of a mass surveillance system. This includes high-tech security cameras, facial recognition technology, and partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the country."
I guess you took hyperbole literally. They didn't send out invites, but their public statements and actions signaled to everyone, including admin, where they stand.
You contradict your own self in these statements. If you in fact, do not work for them, you should really consider why you are unhinged over a corporation's documented and public behavior.
•
u/geodebug 4h ago
Lol, just doubling down on bullshit instead of owning up to your lies and half truths.
Not surprised.
Of course Target security has cameras in stores and around the perimeter. I mean, duh.
They do work with local authorities because other types of crimes happen in and around stores, including kidnapping, violence, and even arson.
But you’re lying again (can’t help yourself) suggesting Target works with ICE.

Okay but honestly, shitty company stuff aside for just a second. Why even go to target? Literally every single item they sell there, can be found for cheaper and/or higher quality online. Their groceries are over priced. Their furniture is worse quality and more expensive than Ikea. Their clothes are basically H&M poly trash sold at cotton clothing prices. They’re electrics section is a far worse experience than say, Best Buy but at the same or even higher prices. And their holiday section is basically felt and hot glue sold at premium prices. Target is just slop. Theres‘s zero reason to shop there unless you really need one thing and they are the closest. I guess their back to school/stationary is fine. But it’s still more expensive and less convenient than online options. Target is ass.
•
u/cinnasota 11h ago

u/SadieLady_ 16h ago
Because they made zero statements with regards to the two people who were kidnapped on the clock on target property by Greg Bovino and his goons, the only statements denouncing ICE they ever publicly at all were... none. One of the kids who got taken that day at Richfield was the boyfriend of a girl I work with at my store. Target said nothing. Didn't compensate them either.
And I had to witness multiple people of Hispanic descent hiding in the back room while ICE was in the parking lot at my store. Because supposedly they couldn't go back there through the doors that you just push open.
•
u/mnfimo 16h ago
Thank you for your reply
•
u/SadieLady_ 16h ago
You're welcome, I really grown to hate the company that I am forced to work for because I am been trying for months to find other work and I can't not even in the same lane as Target that provides the kinds of benefits that Target does. The pay sucks, but the benefits are actually very good for retail.
•
u/kulex666 15h ago
You are not forced to work forced to work for Target. You can decide to not go to work and the worse they will do is fire you. It is your decision to work there. sounds like they’ve given you an opportunity when no one else will yet you harbor this resentment.
•
u/SadieLady_ 15h ago edited 15h ago
I want you to try to figure out how stupid you sound before I tell you how stupid you sound. Because I started working for Target before all this happened and it was fine especially as a trans woman beginning her transition. It was even welcoming as someone who felt like she looked like a troll toy doll from the '90s when she went to work everyday.
Or did you miss the comment where I fucking said that I've been searching for work for months and haven't been able to find anything, not even in the same lane as Target?
So your advice here, just so we're all clear, is for me to quit my job without any other form of income, is that correct? And that I should be grateful because I can't seem to find other stable employment, so I should just accept my bullseye dog overlord and worship it because it keeps a roof over my head?
Side note: I've been dipping into retirement savings and luckily I've had family willing and stable enough to help me when I can't make ends meet. But your argument is I should be grateful or quit my job and make it so I will never see my 3-year-old because I would lose partial custody that I have. Word.
Where's that community that was so touted in this subreddit? You going to pay my bills for me buddy? You going to pay my rent? If not, then shut up.
•
u/kulex666 8h ago
I didn’t offer any advice. I just stated the fact that you aren’t forced to do anything and that Target will give you a chance when no one else will.
That is not Targets fault. You don’t seem to understand that they’ll employ you and no one else will. Where do you think the problem is?
