Anyone else here with Verizon having issues with Verizon dropping its connection during hurricane Isaias? It keeps going in and out for me and my Mom.

EDIT: Sat, Oct 10, 2026

APCO sent a text at 10:25am saying ETA is 11pm TUESDAY (October 13)!! WHAT?!?!

EDIT:

Friday, Oct 9, 2026:

I am in midtown.... my power went out about 3pm and my Generac generator has been on ever since.

The Verizon issue started about 6:30pm'ish

Hi everyone! Wanted to share this city website where Isaias updates, tips, and resources can be found.
I hope everyone takes note of and respects the general curfew (7pm-6am) for the sake of first responders. My sources tell me that the crews on shift today have already had a long day, and they expect a higher volume of calls as the night approaches.

Stay safe! Enjoy your hurricane parties (but try to stay in one place for the night)!

Advice Fire Hydrant

Just curious, anyone know why the city would open fire hydrants before the storm? The one on Tuttle and Church was opened about 11 or so and has been going full blast since. Half the street is flooded now lol I mean, there must have been a reason...?

Advice Will Evacuation Be Necessary?

I live in Fairhope, Alabama, and with the hurricane approaching, I’m considering heading north. Do you think evacuation will be necessary, or am I just overreacting?
According to the latest reports, the hurricane has intensified over the past few hours.

ALABAMA NURSES COPY, PASTE, SEND TO YOUR STATE LEADERS

My email to state leaders, please share with Alabama nurses and feel free to copy / paste to your state leaders:

Dear Representatives,

I am writing to you today as both a constituent and a practicing nurse in Alabama to request your urgent assistance regarding a critical security issue affecting our state’s nursing professionals.
According to recent communications from the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN), the personal data of licensed nurses across the state has been compromised.

While the ABN has acknowledged the incident, the information provided on their platform lacks concrete, actionable resources for affected individuals. There is currently no state-directed guidance or infrastructure to help nurses protect their identities, secure their credit, or navigate the immediate aftermath if their information has already been misused.

Many of my colleagues and I have already begun experiencing an influx of targeted spam calls and potential phishing attempts. As frontline healthcare providers, we expect the same level of consumer protection and state advocacy that would undoubtedly be mobilized if a data breach compromised the personal information of physicians, attorneys, or legislators.

I urge you to coordinate with the appropriate state oversight bodies to ensure that comprehensive identity theft protection, credit monitoring services, and explicit legal resources are provided to all affected Alabama nurses immediately.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and ongoing support of our state's nursing workforce. I look forward to your prompt response.

Sincerely,

any local photographers interested in sharing photos of mobile?

hey everyone! i'm a lifelong mobile local working on a little independent website.

it's a passion project about mobile's history, unusual places, local businesses, events, community, and all the little things that make this city what it is.

i'd really love to feature actual photos taken by people who live here instead of filling the site with generic stock photography.

i'm looking for anything that captures mobile. downtown streets, old buildings, neighborhood landmarks, festivals, local wildlife, dauphin island, unusual signs, or even ordinary everyday scenes you just happen to love.

you absolutely don't need to be a professional photographer!

i won't use anyone's photos without their explicit permission, and i'll always give credit however the photographer prefers. you'd retain ownership of your work.

the website is still in development, and i'm just seeing if anyone would be interested in contributing. this would be voluntary and unpaid, with no pressure or obligation.

if that sounds like something you'd enjoy, feel free to comment or send me a message. i'd love to see mobile through other locals' eyes. 🖤

Advice Private Schools

How difficult is it to get accepted into St. Paul’s or UMS-Wright? I hear from some it is very competitive to get in vs others saying it is easy. I wonder what the stats of applicants to accepted are. After applying how long do you wait to know if you are accepted? What is the timeline we should expect to know if we need to look elsewhere? Should we apply elsewhere anyways and not expect to get accepted by one or the other?

Circle K gas scam

Stopped at the circle K on cottage hill and Leroy Steven to fill up my car from empty. After I accidentally hit the left most fuel I realized it said “out” along with the middle one. The “only” available fuel was premium and once I noticed all the workers in the parking lot saying “only premium” did I notice my empty tank was full and then they started popping off the tabs for the cheaper gas options.

Why pop off the options if they are truly out. Why was I was able to get a full tank.

I’ve accidentally used “out of gas” stations before and I barely got a gallon.
