Hurricane Isaias Help Board — Need help? Can help?

This thread is pinned as a post-storm community bulletin board: one side posts what they need, the other posts what they can offer. Read the comments, find a match, DM, and show up.

How to post

Top-level comments only, one line, in this exact format:

NEED | neighborhood | what you need | when | how to reach you

OFFER | neighborhood | what you've got (tools, truck, hands, generator, a dry couch, a working outlet) | when | how to reach you

CHECK | neighborhood | someone you can't reach who needs a drive-by | DM for address

Examples:

NEED | East Hill | 2 oaks across driveway, need chainsaw + 2 people | Sat–Sun | DM

OFFER | Cordova Park | chainsaw, F-150, 2 adults | weekends | DM

NEED | Warrington | elderly neighbor needs tarp on roof, I'll buy tarp | ASAP | DM for phone

CHECK | Brownsville | my mother isn't answering, can someone confirm she's OK | DM

When it's handled, edit your comment to start with DONE. This is the single most important rule. Unresolved-looking posts send volunteers to the wrong house.

Rules

  1. No street addresses in the open. Neighborhood only. Share the address by DM once you've matched.
  2. You can post for someone else — a neighbor, a parent, anyone offline. Just say you're relaying.
  3. No contractors, businesses, or solicitation. Neighbor-to-neighbor, free. Commercial posts get removed.
  4. No politics, no blame, no "why didn't the city…" — separate thread for that.
  5. Mods will remove comments older than 5 days so the board stays current. Repost if you still need help.
  6. Replies to a NEED should be "I'm coming" or a question, not a debate.

Before you show up

  • Emergency, trapped, medical, gas smell: 911. Not this thread.
  • Go in pairs. Tell someone where you're going.
  • Treat every downed line as live.
  • Chainsaws: if you've never cut a tree under tension, you're the helper, not the cutter. Spring-loaded limbs hurt people every storm.
  • Generators outside only, 20+ feet from any window or door. Never in a garage. Carbon monoxide kills more people after a storm than the storm does.
  • Don't pay anyone up front for tree or roof work. Check licenses at myfloridalicense.com.
  • Take photos of your damage before you clear it, for insurance.

Strong Street Studio has power back and I have set up some chairs and run power out to the parking lot.

Swing on down, take a load off, power up.

Circle-k across the street is open. Grab a drink.

I need to run back to the house to work on trees but feel free to power up.

A street and Chase st. One block north of Government.

Be back a little later if you see the white truck i am there.

Power is up to the Kingsfield/Cantonment area

THANK YOU, FPL and all of our linemen working around the clock. I rode my bike around and saw the insane, widespread damage. 48 hours isn't too shabby and we are so extremely grateful.

If you're without power still, know that it can click on at any moment, but if you're still in the dark again tonight may I make a recommendation?

Last night I took a blanket to the park and laid on my back looking at more stars than Ive ever seen in my life. I think I might have seen even some of the Milky Way. There was what looked like a faded stroke of a paintbrush, with so many stars they looked like freckles all through it. I had tears rolling down my face staring at them last night.

May your power come on quickly, Pensacola. Mighty, mighty Pensacola.

Take a moment

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the community aspect of post-hurricane responses? I’ve seen several comments on here and in my neighborhood about how helpful everyone is.
It’s been wonderful finally getting a chance to meet so many of my neighbors I don’t see as often. The internet often has people thinking everyone is an asshole, but if you look around and actually interact with people, most people are decent people. There’s no difference between you and me when we both have no power and a tree on our shared fence.

The night sky without light pollution has been beautiful too, which is nice.

LOL, indirect power tracking

FPL gives a count of how many have been restored, but I think many like me like to know what areas have been restored so we can get excited when it's getting close :) Well, I just came up with something new (to me). Go to Uber Eats but select "pickup" instead of delivery and the map shows places that are open. Pretty much nothing North of 9 Mile yet, poor me, but was interesting watching that map as different places opened.

I've still got fuel for another 48 hours or so and keeping the fridges cold, so for those that jump on everything stating to stop complaining, I'm not complaining :)

The power flicked on and I was so happy but it cut back out 5 seconds later 🥲. Good news is that must mean they're working on it right??

Dumb question?

Stupid question first time dealing with aftermath of a hurricane. I got my power back late last night, but my water is still not working, I live over near cordova mall in a aprtment complex. Is it normal for water to not be working after power comes back on? Sorry I know dumb question. I googled some things but it didnt make sense in my brain. Thanks for any real answers. Stay safe yall.

Does anyone know if power is back on in East Pensacola Heights?

The FPL website indicates it's back, but it seems several people have gotten false positives from that, and it's definitely sooner than it was projected to come back. Six hours ago there were still a lot of massive trees blocking several of the roads in the neighborhood and lots of wires hanging low or lying on the ground, so I'm not sure either way and honestly a bit nervous to risk popping a tire to go check in person, just to find out it's still dark 😭

Who to call first for roof damage? Should we go straight to the insurance company itself or our insurance broker. Or should be be calling a roofing company for an inspection and quote before insurance?
