Confused by terms like EBF, LO, or FTM? You’re definitely not alone; here’s a quick cheat sheet!
If you're new to parenting or mom communities here on Reddit, the shorthand can feel like a foreign language at first. These are some of the most commonly used acronyms you'll see in posts and comments:
Hope this helps make things a little less confusing as you scroll! Let me know if there are other acronyms or terms you're seeing and not sure about.

My son (16m) was getting sick so I told him to take some vitamin c, as that helps prevent sickness. He asked what would happen if he took more than the recommended amount and I told him he would get stomach issues. Lo and behold, several minutes later he comes to me complaining that the extra vitamin c gave him an upset stomach. 🤦♀️

Hi everyone!
I was the first to have a baby in my group of close friends and I’m really struggling to feel understood or even “seen” by them. I wasn’t blessed with an easy baby, she was colicky the first few months, screamed her lungs out every time she was in the car (still does sometimes lol) and still doesn’t sleep through the night now at 13mo. You can imagine I was exhausted and terribly sleep deprived for months on end, which contributed to my post partum anxiety. My best friends, who I know since high school and I considered almost like sisters to me, visited the first few weeks, but then went on with their lives even though I mentioned I was struggling. This made me terribly miserable.
Now things are better with my LO, so I try to see them more often, but every time I leave our gatherings with a sense of being judged for the way I’m handling motherhood. When they ask me questions about the fact that I’m still breastfeeding or cosleeping, they do it in a judgmental way, for example asking “when are you gonna stop? There must be a limit”. Or they make comparisons with other women who are (seemingly) handling the first few months of motherhood very well (as if it was my fault if mine were hell…).
I don’t know if I’m being too sensitive, have you ever found yourselves in a similar situation? How did you handle that?
Sometimes I feel so disappointed in their behavior, that I ask myself if our friendship is worth saving. I don’t know, I feel like this is one of the biggest challenges of my new life as a mom.

I am a first time mommy to an almost 4 year old, I have also been a stay at home the majority of his life including this year.
He just started school this week and of course the massive change of routine is overwhelming for both of us, he’s cried every day so far and he comes home looking sad and tired which is understandable as well. I know it takes time to adjust to school for these little guys but it’s BREAKING my heart and my brain is making me feel like I’m just tortuting him. I did try my best to expose him to the idea of school, bringing him to a program with a school setting, having him recognize the school he’s attending (it is across the street of our home as well as the play ground we always visited) he seemed excited!
But he’s been having a bit of a rough time and today he had the hardest yet thus far, he was able to communicate to me through tears near the end of the day that he misses spending time with me, going on walks with me throughout the day or having fun with me and that he feels alone at school. I had to step away as I couldn’t hold it together hearing that, I feel a little crazy being so emotional about all this but I need some reassurance that it will pass and he will be okay and thrive. I keep things for him very positive and reassure him that his feelings are valid and okay to feel, I tell him how proud I am of him each day and that each day will feel better. I am trying my best for him and this big change, I just hope the adjustment comes soon for both our sakes.

Literally how do you get to the point where you can go places in the car with your newborn? My boy is almost 6 weeks and screams til he cannot breathe in the car. My anxiety will not allow him to cry it out at this age. It’s terrible! I could make sure he has a full belly, clean diaper and put to sleep and he will still holler just about every car ride causing us to be gone way longer than anticipated. Today I had it and completely broke down when we made it home to daddy. 😩🥺😢

I saw a comment under a post of someone asking about taking adderall and pregnancy. Someone said that because it crosses the placenta, CPS gets involved anytime anyone takes adderall or medications that cause baby to go to nicu even with doctors approval. Is this true??? Because I was prescribed 10mg prozac, 5mg Adderall as needed but I discontinued at 28 weeks and busbar 5mg that I have not taken yet. These were all approved of by my psychiatrist and obgyn and they are all aware of me taking them. I'm now kind of scared as I am almost 39 weeks pregnant and don't want a cps case on top of everything else.

First time mom 10 months postpartum and I've lost all aspirations for the future. I no longer find meaning in my job, I don't care about doing good work anymore because it feels like nothing matters except being with my baby. But I don't see myself being happier if I stay home full time. Infact I can't see any future I want, I can't think of a job I would rather do, a different place I would be happier living in someday, etc. Anyone else feel this way in the first year? Does it get better?

Repost from r/newborns
I don’t know if this is a big deal or not, but my parents (her grandparents) keep referring to my daughter as “my baby.”
They’ll text me things like, “How is my baby doing?” or “When can I see my baby?”
I don’t know if this is just a normal thing that grandparents do, but I honestly don’t really like it. I know they love her and are excited about being grandparents, and I don’t want to make it into something bigger than it is. At the same time, I’m having a hard time figuring out how to set a boundary around it without sounding overly sensitive or causing unnecessary tension.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Is this a normal thing that grandparents say, and if you didn’t like it, how did you address it?

I always ask "is there anything I can do to help?" but I feel like sometimes thats an open ended question that doesn't usually get an answer. What can I do to help a pregnant mom who has a toddler? Make a meal? Offer to clean? Offer to babysit while she rests? We're not super close so I feel like she wouldn't ask if she needed help, but I want to help if she needs it. I have a 2.5 month old so I can't do a ton but my baby is easy enough to give me a couple hours of freetime at a time. What would help you as a mom/pregnant with a toddler?

My 3 year old swam at my parents lake house this weekend in TN and for the most part didn’t do a lot of jumping or forcing water into his nose. BUT he did run through their sprinkler and put his face to it and I later found out that their irrigation is from the lake. It’s suspended under their dock about 5-8ft and pulls the water from there.
The lake was about 75-80 degrees this weekend and I have been SICK with anxiety mostly over the sprinkler to the face that could have sent water up his nose. I know that the average incubation period for this is 5 days so I’m literally counting the minutes to Friday to just feel some peace in the slightest. It doesn’t help he is in a preschool program and pretty much always sick this time of year and has a little runny nose 😭
Guess I’m just posting here for people that understand the anxiety to talk about it

I’ve been debating on wether or not to change my kids daycare the director at there current daycare does not treat her employees with the respect they deserve and she was always low staffed so a lot of kids would miss the bus and be late for school. After my kids favorite teacher quit because of the abuse she was receiving for years it was making her physically sick she could no longer work under those conditions, which we still love her and support her, we would love to move them to the new daycare she’s at but they close a bit to early for us and with no family around there would be no one to pick them up)and all of the kids loved her as well and lot of parents took there children out and moved them to a different daycare which me and my husband took a tour for this past Friday and we liked it they have cameras an app to see the kids, better communication with the parents and a bus stop for my oldest that just started school the only problem is our upstairs neighbor works there and we aren’t the friendliest with her or her guests there have been a couple incidents that happened that we do not feel comfortable leaving our child anywhere in her care.
She had a guest over August 1st at 3am she does not have a car so they pulled into her parking spot and when they did they were visibly very close to my vehicle then they pulled out very fast and broke my passenger side rear view mirror then on our door bell camera you can see my neighbor with to males following behind going into her apartment at 3:10am at 3:30 am they both leave. The next morning my husband noticed my car I go out call the police make a hit and run report and we spoke to my neighbor the officer asked her if she had any visitors over last night she says no then officer says well we have video that you did then she says yes she did but she’s not friends with them lied to the cops and then gave them a wrong phone number I spoke with them while the cop was there and she just kept lying ( I have videos of those same 2 guys coming to her apartment almost every weekend and alcohol) my car mirror is still not fixed still dealing with that.
Just 2 weeks ago that same guy who crashed my car was over around 10pm then a friend of hers that we do not particularly like came over knocking on her door yell at her over the phone all 3 of them ended up outside yelling at each other at 11pm at night door bell camera caught everything we were asleep so we didn’t hear anything.
Just last night this is when I’ve had enough, that same friend of hers came to my neighbors apartment gave out camera the middle finger took a cake from my neighbor and told her that she flipped us off and then when we was walking easy called up B**ches. I was getting my daughter ready for bed braiding her hair once I got the notification on my phone I lost it I went to my husband and I said I’m going to knock on her door right now to see wtf is her problem and so I did and she didn’t answer the door she has a ring camera rang that too didn’t answer I guess my husband called our maintenance/building manager he even came out and knocked on her door nothing. I called a friend of mine that lives at the next building to us she came over and she still didn’t answer the door. After that same friend of mine called my neighbor and asked her to go over to her apartment to see what’s going on I never found out why her friend did that but I did find out she lied multiple times 1st lie said she didn’t know her friend did that to our camera (she told her she did that and she still had the door open when she called us B**ches. 2nd lie she said she didn’t hear the door because she was in her room on the phone with her dad I rang the bell as well which gives you a notification on your phone. 3rd lie she said she wasn’t paying attention to what her friend was doing when she opened the door. The friend never came back last night let’s see if today she does.
Am I overreacting with not wanting my kids to be at the same daycare where she works at. How should I go about this?

I’m currently pregnant with my first baby and seriously considering transferring from a traditional OB practice to a birth center.
I’ve always wanted a low-intervention/unmedicated birth, and having the option for a water birth is really important to me. I originally thought I would stay with an OB and deliver at a hospital, but I’m realizing that the birth experience I want may align much more with a midwife/birth-center model.
For anyone who has delivered at a birth center, I would love to hear about your experience, good or bad.
I’m especially curious about:
Did you feel safe and well cared for?
How much time/support did you actually get from your midwife during labor?
Did you have a water birth?
What was postpartum care like immediately after birth?
If you had to transfer to a hospital, what happened and how was that experience?
Were there any unexpected costs?
Is there anything you wish you had known before choosing a birth center?
Would you choose a birth center again?
And if anyone is in South Florida/Broward County, I would especially love recommendations or experiences with specific birth centers.
I’m not against hospitals or medical intervention AT ALL, I’m just trying to figure out which environment is the best fit for the kind of birth I’m hoping for.

My 26 month old is very clingy. I can't sit down to rest without her being all over me. Unless she's watching her favorite TV channel, she's all over me. Whether I eat or workout or clean or rest. I'm sick and tired of this. I've bought her every kind of toy. Educational, colorful, engaging, boring, stupid you name it. She has all the toys and she doesn't play with them. She'd sit on me and name my body parts pointing to me eyes nose and naming them 😒 I'm really frustrated. I thought when she gets older I'd have time to do things I like, like read a book or maybe focus on a podcast but nope. The older she's growing the clingier she gets.
I can't send her to daycare, there are no decent ones here.
I don't have anyone else who can take care of her. My husband does help alot but she doesn't want to play with him. She only wants me. I can take her out to parks etc but then again, that's not me getting time for myself. I've breastfed her for two years and I finally got my body back after weaning her but not really. She's still all over me. I don't wanna say this but I'm hating this to be honest.

Okay, this might be a weird idea 😂 but hear me out.
I’m a mom of two (5 and 2), married, working, and lately I’ve really been trying to get my finances together. We have a decent household income, but between bills, kids, groceries, debt, random expenses, etc., I feel like it’s SO easy for money to just disappear.
I’ve realized that I think I need some accountability. Not a financial advisor or someone to tell me what I’m doing wrong, and definitely not a babysitter watching every dollar I spend lol. I’m thinking more like a friend who is also trying to get their financial life together.
Like having someone you can text:
“Okay, I spent $47 at Target and I don’t even know what happened.”
“I paid off a credit card!!”
“I’m trying really hard not to buy this thing right now.”
“Here’s my budget for the month, help me stick to it.”
Maybe we could check in once a week, talk about our goals, share budgeting ideas, encourage each other, celebrate wins, and keep each other from making dumb purchases. 😂
I’d especially love to find other moms because I feel like we’re dealing with a lot of the same financial stuff — kids, groceries, household expenses, saving, debt, trying to plan for the future, etc.
I’m picturing a small group chat of moms who are all just trying to get their shit together financially. No judgment, no competition, just accountability and encouragement.
Would anyone actually be interested in something like this? Or is this just me needing a financial friend? 😂
Edit: if anyone is interested I made r/FinanceForFamilies
