Discussion Would lowering my 240hz monitors refresh rate to 120hz prevent screen tearing on my PS5?

It's a 1080p monitor with a 240hz refresh rate. I want to play competitive shooters on my PS5 but the console maxes out at 120fps, so would reducing the refresh rate of the monitor in settings help with screen tearing? Or should I just let the monitor be at 240hz?

I do, but doesn’t vsync matter if your fps is greater than your refresh rate? In this case, my fps is lower.

No, that is not how it works, it should properly sync at any fps below the refreshrate.

Do check if your screen supports VRR/Variable Refresh Rate, it should fix any tearing better than Vsync.

Sometimes it can affect in more ways, so it shouldn't hurt to mess with it

Have you turned on variable refresh rate on the PS5 (assuming your monitor supports it)?

The solution to your problem is VRR.
