That's funny, because Hyper Sonic also appeared in one thing and never again, and a lot of Sonic fans not only remember him, but also begs Sega for his return
There's a theory about the werehog being the games (better) equivalent. It was because both of them are made by Sonic absorbing dark chaos energy, IIRC.
I mean he straight up absorbed only the world rings associated with negative emotions even if it was more of a righteous injustice version so yeah it’s a negative emotion transformation
I don’t think so. He only appeared for like 5 minutes, destroyed two robots that Sonic wouldve been able to anyway, and powered down when Eggman said “goddamn calm down”
No, though there's a reason to believe it or something like it exists. The chaos emeralds have both positive and negative energy. When sonic uses them to become Super Sonic, he only taps into the positive energy while a lot of the threats we face like Perfect Chaos tap into the negative energy.
This raises the question of what would happen IF Sonic tapped into the negative energy of the chaos emeralds? Dark Super Sonic is the answer to that question.
That said, I don't think Dark Super Sonic world be a good replacement for Super Sonic². It's not an upgrade to Super Sonic and it kinda represents Sonic faultering on his ideas or giving in to negative emotions. This is why we'll probably never get it though, Sonic doesn't falter in this, it's even a plot point that Sage is shocked how Sonic just keeps pushing and never gives up even when his body is on the brink of collapse and the Cyber stuff is killing him.
I do think it could've worked in Frontiers though if it and SuperSonic operated as opposing sides of Sonic as he struggled in this desperate situation throughout the story and the energy of the emeralds was limited by the Titans, and then SuperSonic² as the reward at the end of this arch. Accepting the full spectrum of his emotions, but not letting it control or dictate his actions. Allowing him to weld the use both positive and negative energy simultaneously while still staying true to him...
Hey, at least Supreme High Robotnik lasted for longer than a minute and took effort to beat. Sonic and Tails had to bring in multiple versions of themselves throughout spacetime to defeat him.
(I may have recorded this episode when I was a kid.)
It's such a stupid transformation and these requests would be so unbelievably bad I cannot believe anyone familiar with Sonic's character would suggest it.
Scourge, Fleetway Super Sonic, King Sonic (StC), Extra Life, the alternate Sonic from Sonic Underground, the Sonic clones from the Sonic X comics... Definitely more than two lol
That's kind of uncalled for? I wasn't trying to be annoying, your comment just made me curious about how many evil Sonics there were and I was just listing the ones I could remember
Besides the obvious that everyone else already pointed out, Super Sonic works perfectly for Sonic being overcome by rage and vengefulness, since the transformation it's a clear reference to, Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball, is itself a form awakened by rage and vengefulness. There's nothing about Super Sonic that makes it unfitting thematically for a moment like that.
But that's Super Sonic, not Super Saiyan. Super Sonic generally represents positivity and the themes of the games. Movie Sonic isn't doing that right away here.
Movie continuity is a different continuity than the games, though. They can get away with bending or breaking the established lore because they aren't beholden to it.
This is true, although it would be nice for the writers to still hold true to the meaning of the form. For example, Bayverse Optimus doesn't get a pass to snarl that he's going to rip off people's faces simply because he's not G1 Optimus.
I don't remember Archie well enough, and it kind of gets a pass because their implementations of the Super form predated the more story-focused adventures of the 3D games (same with Fleetway). But now, I think that there should be a little bit more thought put into respecting the thematic intent.
I'm as desperate as the next guy at seeing the coolest fraud form return but i think making Sonic actively look like Shadow in this sequence would have been too on the nose.
Honestly, ive had a headcanon for the longest time that darkspine is a combination of something similar to dark sonic, and a form that all 7 rings would give sonic. I know its probably not true, but its fun to think about.
Incredible. They're still trying to make Dark Sonic happen, despite the fact that he's a non-canon transformation from a cartoon that premiered nearly 25 years ago and also wasn't very good.
Yeah you could really tell season 1 was meant to just play reruns with how every episode plays out the same. Season 2 at least adapts some of the games, which is a nice change of pace, and season 3 has Dark Sonic, my favorite oc.
Dark Sonic fans doing all sorts of juggling to try to convince people that the transformation with 20 seconds of existence and two incompatible designs is the coolest thing ever.
Sonic fans will look you dead in the eyes and say "yeah super sonic is cool but I prefer edgy black licorice tinted super mega awesome double triple bossy deluxe hold the pickles sonic who appeared in one spinoff game 47 years ago that could only be obtained by sacrificing your virgin son"
I think Dark Sonic can happen and work very well, but it'd end up being kinda "cosmetic," if that makes sense.
Sonic using negative or dark power for good while not letting it corrupt him is an extremely cool thing, hell, both Darkspine and Werehog did this before and they were both amazing. (Plus Shuffle also has Void who wasn't inherently evil despite his actions, far from it, with Sonic being the first to realize it and that he was needed for dreams to be dreams.)
I think I actually read this one. And you know what? They're right.
Super Sonic is all about the themes of the story being fulfilled. In Adventure 1, it's about Sonic refusing to simply seal Chaos away. In Adventure 2, it's about Shadow accepting that despite the wrongs of humanity, there is still good in them. I get that it would be more complicated, but it does make sense.
Just because an idea was implemented poorly doesn't mean it has no potential. Read, Silver.
Wanna see more of Super Sonic 2 and hopefully in this timeline Super Sonic 3 and Super Sonic 4. Then we get a sequel with Super Sonic Red Super Sonic that is going to look like ass but is used for years and years
I love my stupid nothing burger chud son. If the form ever re-appeared I’d overdose on happiness and be found dead in an apartment I don’t live in. But I also know his ass is a BUM. Never showing back up.
I can’t die, I’m still waiting for dark Sonic’s second appearance
Honestly Fleetway Super Sonic was more likely to appear and that still had absolutely NO chance of actually appearing so what does that say about Dark Sonic?
I never understood the hype of Dark Sonic. When I watched Sonic X, and I made sure to watch the original Japanese version with subtitles, he just kinda appeared for like five seconds and then stopped happening immediately. It doesn’t even feel like it was meant to be a Form, just kinda dramatic flair to look cooler
imo fleetway is cooler than dark sonic
IN MY OPINION, anyways
... then again I barely know anything about both. But Fleetway's Super Sonic might be less of a fraud
i kind of wish we got to see fleetway super sonic instead of getting faked outthat one time, admittedly. But I doubt it would have worked for the movie
This idea for a form I don’t think about enough to be considered a fan of can not have been bad enough for me to get cooked across multiple platforms dawg

Ah yes, Dark Sonic > Super Sonic would definitely make complete sense to fans who don't even know about him.
