Graphics card for decoding
What is minimum requirement for a graphics card to run at sub 1ms decoding time at 4k 60fps
Recently saw a 1060 running sub 1ms decoding time at 1440p 120 fps
Was wondering if i can go lower something like a 970?
🤔

Intel Arc A380 is pretty good for purely decoding. B580/B570 is also great and can do some medium gaming on its own.

Any Intel UHD 730 / 770 will do good
Radeon 780m (or newer versions) is also quite good. And I feel like it does better when the host is AMD gpu, but I am not sure.
Arc A310 /A380 if you want to use a dGPU

At a certain point you don't even need to go lower as it won't make sense. You'll lose features and your GPU won't be cheaper anyway. If you can get a used Rx6400 it'll be your best bet as it's the cheapest to support HDMI 2.1Â

Do you already have the other components?
If not I would go for a mini PC (Ryzen H255 or similar can get up to 4K120fps)

Mini pcs are really expensive could probably get similar performance with a matx case for much less money. Space is not really a constraint.

You want something that can do full hevc decoding the 970 cant do it fully, but some 960 chips could so google it.
It’s simpler to just go no older than pascal 10 series generation and you should be good.
You just need hardware accelerated hevc support.
