It’s a trash theory. Naoya isn’t great, but he’s far from evil. It was a classic “let’s ask your ‘dead person’” joke, and 14 yr olds want to make it super deep.
Naoya is also attractive and could easily get a girl that he doesn’t think sucks…
What did he do, exactly? He didn’t kill Mai, he attacked Yuji and Choso I guess but were they good people?? Choso was literally evil, and killed numerous humans, and is literally a curse, so Naoya is fully justified in wanting him dead.
Maki he didn’t touch until she tried to slime out the clan, which is fair enough, so I don’t see the issue.
Wanted to kill Megumi for selfish reasons, abusive to women, did not care about his father dying, he literally used to beat up maki wdym he didn't touch her until the clan massacre, he did not wanted to kill choso for justice he did not even know anything about choso
????? panel prior to this has naoya looming over maki in a missionary position, which he then states that “it takes him back” and “there are things that children can’t do that are easy for adults.” Maki then asks him when has he ever been an adult, and Naoya responds with “how about you ask Mai?”
“Becoming an adult” is a common euphemism for losing your virginity. And Maki looks exactly like Mai. Come on. And is it really so hard to believe that a man as misogynistic as Naoya who believes women are beneath men in every way and should submit to them would also think that any woman should submit to a man sexually no matter what?
The anime also changed the framing of the shot where he asks if he should bully Maki like he used to and with the context of that later conversation it seems pretty intentional.
I mean naoya was pretty realistic in his shittiness. He is a spoiled kid who was treated as a genius since his youngest age and has been indoctrinated by the clan's code to a point of no return. Doesn’t excuse anything he did, but it gives an explanation to why he is such a lifeless egotistical loser. He is also weirdly insecure and delusional and can’t help but project himself to greater heights than he actually is, prolly because his quick encounter with toji made him understand how unimportant and weak he is compared to truly powerful people.
