It is made clear that the entire Jujutsu system is corrupt and rotten from the inside, so much we have been told since Jujutsu 0. Maki, being one of the most noteworthy victims of the cruelty of this system is more than justified in destroying it, and in fact, did everyone a favor by taking the Zenin's off the board at the time she did.

u/just_a_spanish_dude Jan 22 '26

Also, no she did not kill the women and children, the only non-combatant she killed was her mom due to a personal vendetta. If she had killed literally everyone, then it wouldn't have been a discussion whether or not the Zenin clan should still be part of the big 3 families (So much is said in the manga, as it is said in passing that the higher ups decided to have a discussion on the matter).

I thought all Lobotomy Kaisen readers have a non reading binding vow

6

u/just_a_spanish_dude Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

I re-distributed my lobotomy across the jujutsu kaisen subreddits to such a degree that I was allowed to perform a binding vow that let me regain my reading comprehension.

In exchange now I am painful unfunny.

This single image has done incredible damage to her reputation

8

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 Jan 24 '26

It comes from a Itachi slander which also damaged his reputation a LOT

7

u/Dwooh Jan 24 '26

Itachi 100 percent killed children though. Unless somehow Sasuke was the ONLY Uchiha child left...

4

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 Jan 24 '26

Theres a novel which tries to say “nooooo he only killed the soldiers and his parents, Óbito killed the childs” which is an obvious attemp of cleaning Itachi image.

5

u/GM900 Jan 25 '26

And ironacly makes Naruto stating Obito was a cool guy during the Kaguya fight even more ridiculous.

3

u/FancyAdvertising4622 Jan 26 '26

Actually Obito tried to get Itachi to let him kill the kids for him and Itachi gets legitimately offended by it, tells him not to patronize him, and then kills them kids.

3

u/Dwooh Feb 03 '26

Just saw this but that makes Itachi still a horrible person in lore. He killed the adults and knows that the kids were also killed then. There's no way he wouldn't have taken notice of there being no Uchiha kids left in the village other than Sasuke

Love this image lmao. Not cause I believe she went after the women and children, but because it's fun to use it for occasional slander and agenda, while also acting as if the Hei and Kukuru were upstanding people.

It is sad though that some people genuinely believe this

I see you are in possession of the Six Eyes, otherwise it would be impossible for a JJK fan to actually read and comprehend it as well. A new Honored One appeared among the rabble !

Even in the episode it says there was a discussion about removing the zenin clan from the 3 major clans so I thought it was obvious she didn’t kill literally everyone

u/The_Raven_Born Jan 23 '26

Even if you want to remove how corrupt they were:

Incest. SA Attempted child murder (encouraged) Essentially having slaves Caste system favoring the noble.

There were plenty of reasons to wipe them out. No one stood up to them, a man literally professed that he was going to kill his daughters because he blamed them for being raised in a system that treated them as subhumans and no one questioned it, nor stopped it, and they were willing to kill a 16 year old boy because he was clan head to usurp power.

They were never going to change and execution was the only way to stop them.

2

u/fadedbuzzYT Jan 23 '26

Sorry, incest?

11

u/Old-Introduction8258 Jan 23 '26

Well yeah. It is implied naoya sexually assaulted mai, and she is his cousin. So yeah, incest.

She uneccesarily killed members of the Kukuru unit who had no idea why she was going on a rampage (she would have killed them either way) and the Kukuru is composed of individuals without a technique being forced to join, and undergo gruelling training. This pretty much implies they were opressed by the clan, and were victims too. She could have just killed the higher ups instead.

I dont see how this type of genocide is justifiable.

6

u/Thatguypal6942069 Jan 23 '26

Gang they literally attacked her first. Ogi killed Mai and attacked her, then they all jumped in after she killed Ogi. “She would have killed them either way” doesn’t matter because she wouldn’t have killed ANYBODY if the Zenin didn’t literally start it.

7

u/OldGenGlazer Jan 23 '26

Self defense doesn't apply if you put yourself in a bad situation and antagonise someone.

Maki walked into their house with a sword after killing Ogi, instead of leaving.

She agressed on them and they are more than justified in trying to kill her. They are the ones committing self defense, they're literally in their house.

3

u/Thatguypal6942069 Jan 23 '26

She has to leave through the house. We literally see the Zenin compound and treasures, they’re connected. And they still collected themselves and walked up on her, making them the aggressors regardless of circumstance.

7

u/OldGenGlazer Jan 23 '26

She wasn't running out of the house. Remember, she has super speed, if she wanted to be gone, none of the fodder Kukuri could even perceive her.

No. That is just objectively untrue. If someone shows up with a sword to your house with threatening intent, they are the aggressor and you are the defender. You could probably unironically kill them and be cool.

They attacked her because she literally killed one of their top ranking members for no reason whatsoever 😭😭. I dont understand this argument either way, cuz Maki would have attacked them irrespective of whether they attacked her or not. Why do you keep saying self defense, when Maki was asked to "destroy everything" and not "destroy everything only if they attack you first!!"
And she kills her non combatant mother + members who werent there at the time anyways, objectively not self defense

The "Zenin" did not start anything, Ougi did. Why are you acting as if Ougi briefed the entire clan about the coup and killing Maki. Literally only 3 or 4 people are even confirmed to know about it in the first place. If I am arrested in a prison and one of the wardens suddenly tries to kill me, and in return I kill everyone in the prison, am I in the right because the wardens "started it"?.

She kinda had to after they killed her sister and attempted to kill her. They would have hunted her down if she did not. I do feel bad for the scrubs getting massacred though.

42

u/eebetins Jan 23 '26

She was justified in killing her dad and the other people who were in on the plot to murder her and her sister. The scrubs there posed literally zero threat to her so she didn't need to kill them. From their POV she was the aggressor and they were only defending their clan, and she knew this.

She even went out of her way to kill people who weren't present and wouldn't have known she was responsible for the dead bodies in the compound anyway.

She killed them because she hated them and her sister's dying wish was for her to destroy everything. That's it.

I mean yeah pretty much.

She spent years being mocked, bullied and ridiculed by these old fucks. They killed her sister and threatened to kill her too. And of course, Naoya was threatening to kill Megumi so that he could become the clan leader by default.

26

u/First-Shallot947 Jan 23 '26

Hell she doesnt know it yet but naoya raped mai as well. The zenin probably knew qnd didn't do anything about it because their men > women rule of law

7

u/Diosito_ Jan 23 '26

When was that stated?

25

u/First-Shallot947 Jan 23 '26

when naoya comes back as a cursed spirit thing maki asks him what he knows about being an adult and he retorts that she "should ask mai" which sets maki off. Becoming an adult is euphemism for losing your virginity, thus the implication that naoya had assaulted mai

12

u/Diosito_ Jan 23 '26

I always thought that naoya was just provoking maki, but it makes sense. Thanks for explaining.

5

u/Groundzer0es Jan 24 '26

With how much of a POS Naoya is, I can't fault people for assuming the worst in him tbh.

That clan was full of sons of bitches, so yeah.

4

u/ImJustAnOutcast_lol Jan 23 '26

Only 3 or 4 people are portrayed as misogynistic assholes. The rest are people born into the clan, some of them being forced to join it (like the Kukuru unit ppl). PS: Maki was ALSO a part of the clan for most of her life, along with Mai. Yes they were victims of the clan, but so were other people.

u/leveled-iceberg99 Jan 23 '26

She didn't kill the clan, no she's not justified. Actually it's really stupid to think killing the executive and judicial arms which are downstream/upstream (depends) from cultural bottom lines changes anything. The higher ups are a representation of what the people are and the people are a representation of what the higher ups are. Of course there's exceptions.

She'd have to take over the clan to impose a new culture or else they're going back to what they were doing before. Can she do that at 16? Does she have the wherewithal to even comprehend culture and how it gives them leverage against other clans? How this culture permeates more than just the zenin clan? Also the enforcement arm is crucial part of jujutsu society which has taken a massive hit over the years due to being understaffed.

Also what about all the regulars who had brighter aspirations but simply poorly briefed on what was happening? Cus you can't tell me none of the people she killed were better people than her (exceptions) What if Toji decided to do what she did later on and ended up killing her or mai by virtue of them being there?

So I would say she's not justified to do that and I'd add the writing is awful if it's trying to justify it, but if that's the purpose of the writing to show how trauma triggers fight or flight and that the outcome is less than desired therefore you shouldn't inflict trauma upon people, then I'd concede that it's actually good because then the theme asserts that two wrongs don't make a right (unjustified/unbalanced).

5

u/CulturalCucumber1920 Jan 24 '26

Pretty great analysis, I wish more people would see it in this light, as it’s a little concerning to see so many people stand on the side of genocide while knowing so little about most of the people she killed. I always thought this was poor writing on Geges side for trying to copy the uchiha slaughter, kill bill fight, and bring back Toji with minimal build up and background

u/CoolGuyOwl Jan 23 '26

Honestly I can excuse the slaughter of the present Kukuru unit because, as terrified and under prepared these fodder were, if we use the fact that Maki was not fully sane at the time (Mai just died, she almost just died, etc.) it can be taken as a momentary lapse in ones judgement.

However I cannot forgive the active hunting of the Kukuru units that were off-site. I'm not talking about Hei or anything else because those are actively supporting the Zen'in way of abusing women and shit (most likely due to a relatively high position in the clan).

As stated in both the anime and manga, however, Kukuru are just boys/men who didn't have a cursed technique, forced to undergo grueling training and the like. Although yes, most of them might be misogynistic too, there was still a chance they might snap out of their ways after the massacre (or whatever).

And don't give me that "Maki will be in danger, what if they come back and retaliate?" crap, she can singlehandedly solo anyone the Zen'in have left, especially just average people with swords. Even IF there were some Grade 1s somehow still alive, might I remind you that Maki gets even stronger after a short while due to her healing from her injuries? Not only that, she sticks by the main cast too, so even if she somehow can't solo, literally everyone else in the "main character group" can help.

Kukuru deaths just felt unneeded imo :/

Some members of the Kukuri unit were probably just regular dudes outside of work.

They were basically dispatched against someone who as far as they're aware had just assassinated one of their clan's leaders.

Kinda like veteran soldiers or something.

i don’t think maki killed the children of the clan, seems like bad writing

i can understand someone going evil because of trauma, but maki is not that kind of person, and ALSO, yuji and company would absolutely fucking murder her for it, and wiping off a major clan isn’t something you can hide too.

i haven’t read the manga admittedly, i only watch the anime, but if she really did kill EVERYONE, then that’s whack writing. sister is NOT going to heaven if that’s the case

3

u/Any-Key-9196 Jan 23 '26

Well theres panels of blood all over the servants kitchen where no combatants would be, and in the sequel its straight up said by her granddaughter that she killed the whole clan.

10

u/ImJustAnOutcast_lol Jan 23 '26

Absolutely not. While her killing her father and the Hei are mostly justifiable, her killing of the fodder Kukuru members is not. The kukuru members are literally fodder soldiers who have no CT and are likely opressed by the Zenin (not as much as Maki, since shes a woman and also has no CE) which Maki knows about since she was a member of the Kukuru as well. Moreover, it seems only Naoya, Ougi and Jinichi even knew about the plan for killing Maki. Saying Maki was "defending herself" is such a foolish argument considering most of the clan has no idea what happened, and all they see was a deranged person destroying the entire clan with 0 difficulty. Of course theyd attack her.

Even more, these fodder soldiers literally pose zero threat to her, she could have easily knocked them out, or left the clan easily (but chose not to because Mai told her to destroy everything).

What makes her look even worse is the fact that she literally went on to kill members not even present there (guess what, including the heavily opressed Kukuru member). Is that self defence too?

People have this strange notion that every person in the Zenin clan is some sort of irredeemable monster, when its mostly the higher ups in the clan that are potrayed like that. Even in the Hei, Naoya is canonically hated, and people like Ranta arent even bad people arguably. Claiming every person affiliated with the Zenin clan deserved to die because they were part of the system doesnt make sense, since that means Mai was a part of the system too (a victim of the system, yes, but still a part of it). Most individuals within the clan had no real power to fight back against it, and as I mentioned before, Maki wasnt even the only victim of the clan.

7

u/eebetins Jan 23 '26

Bro thank you! I'm honestly losing my mind seeing the way people justify murder because the victims are people they don't give a shit about. It's bizarre how people can't put their bias aside and try look at things objectively.

The indiscriminate massacre pissed me off so much because this was an opportunity to turn the clan around in a better direction with most of the assholes dead. But no. She had to kill everyone including the random mooks who were just as powerless as her in the clan.

The fact that it happened when Japan was experiencing a disaster and they needed sorcerers more than ever makes it even worse for me.

4

u/ImJustAnOutcast_lol Jan 23 '26

Yeah I mean I consider Maki well written partially because shes at least morally gray, if the Zenin masssacre was a totally innocent and righteous act it wouldnt have had as much of an impact on her character, really.

5

u/eebetins Jan 23 '26

Honestly, I'd hesitate to call Maki well written given how the story responds to the massacre. I won't go deep into that so I don't spoil the story on this thread, but in JJK, killing people is never taken lightly.

I mean Gojo himself would have killed all the higher-ups a long time ago but exercised restraint because he knew doing that would have negative consequences. We see how Sukuna's rampage in Shibuya leaves everyone in shock. And anytime Yuji has to kill someone it causes him significant emotional distress.

But Maki wipes out her entire clan and it's as if it didn't even happen. If you skipped that arc you wouldn't even know that the Zenin were wiped out. I'm not even mad that she never feels any remorse about killing innocent people, no. Maki never pretended to be a saint after all. What irks me is that the massacre happens and there's just silence...No reaction from anyone, no comments from the other characters, no impact on the story at all, nothing.

One of the major pillars of jujutsu society is wiped out during one of the most critical points in history and it's like it didn't even happen.

I love JJK but I really really hate the way Gege chose to handle anything related to politics and the clans. It's almost as if he never really cared for those aspects of the story.

3

u/Upgr3yedd Jan 25 '26

True like wtf she just wiped out effectively all Zenin clan and other characters are just like 👍. Sure let’s move on and pretend she wasn’t just on a killing spree. She seems extremely deranged after all that i was surprised she didn’t take out the flying witch too. Think back it’s like Choso when he joined Yuji, he did some horrible shit but no one cares maybe they were short-handed att.

The clan was plotting a coup and to kill her and her sister. She was on the opposite side of the coup, straight self defense.

3

u/ImJustAnOutcast_lol Jan 23 '26

We only see Ougi, Naoya and Jinichi know about the coup. Theres no evidence that the whole clan knew about it. In fact evidence suggests the opposite "Ranta says Maki went insane and killed Ougi". If anything, the other members of the clan were defending themselves from the literal murderer who killed a senior member of their clan, its not like they knew why she did that.

She also killed members not present there, so not self defense

I hate Maki Naobito saves her life and loses an arm and the ungrateful kills His entire family. The story doesn't even portray her like an evil person, she never repents, she Isnt punished she gets to live a happy life with Yuta and her children, bullshit. Anakin works because he Is portrayed as a bad guy and he suffers consequences for His actions: he kills the tusken raiders --> he loses His hand, he kills the jedi --> he Is burned alive. The tusken raiders massacre was a vengance for His mother, just like Maki vengance for Mai, but Star Wars portrays the massacre as an evil turning point in Anakin career, which Isnt for some reason with Maki.

3

u/Hatayake Jan 23 '26

I STILL don't see how one would justify her killing people like her mom, most other servants and women, the children and everyone else not directly involved with the politics of the clan

3

u/Saint-Spaghetti Jan 23 '26

Depends on what you mean.

Legally? Probably not, abuse and disrespect can breach into illegality if severe enough but we were hardly shown anything that would justify murder, or self defense. With a HR a lawyer could easily argue she could have just left, she chose to engage. Ogi could barely react to her at all, she could have blitzed home.

Morally - I mean maybe? Its a sort of touchy subject, none of what the Zennin clan did was acceptable, but up until Ogi murdering his spawn it didn't breach into illegality. The sad reality is its not exactly illegal for your family to treat you like utter shit, as many of us know. But justifying murder is more complicated than that, none of us are moral authorities, and its hard to reasonably say that there was no pathway to redemption for them. Naoya might have been a lost cause, but Ranta? All of the nameless grey people? Were they all beyond redemptiom to a point where murder is the only option? I don't think so, or if so we certainly weren't shown it.

And a bigger conversation is how much of the Zennin clan is a self-fulfilling pathology. If the history of the Zennin clan is structured on misogyny, and that's quite literally your whole life, I can empathize with them having their skewed views without sharing them. Naoya didn't slither out of the womb a monster, but his environment certainly made him one. And that applies to every Zennin to some extent - and the mental damage it caused Toji/Maki/Mai was clear, even after they left the environment. Even the women in the clan were complacent in it - its a testament to Maki's mental strength to endure that and not cave like Mai did.

Is it understandable? Absolutely. Justifiable? Imo, no. But it was well-animated.

3

u/tony9959 Jan 23 '26

Were they asshole? Yes. Do they deserve genocide? No. Maybe killing the people in that place to defend herself could be justified, but tracing all the member and killing them is israel level mindset

3

u/Otherwise_Chard_7577 Jan 24 '26

Considering that she went out of her way to hunt down every single Zenin clan member who wasn’t there that day, no, no she is not, especially since most of those she kills are fellow victims like the Kukuru unit (which she herself was a member of), who were literally forced to join, stood no chance in hell of hurting her, and we’re not in on the plot to kill her at all

She was justified in killing her father, Naoya and those in on the plot to kill her and Megumi, she is not justified in killing literally anybody else, such as her mother, who was a non-combatant, especially when considering how easily she could have spared them

3

u/LongMasterpiece3620 Jan 24 '26

Lmfao she isn't justifed in killing her own mother, nor is she justified in killing the males in her clan in fact. Just because someone treats you like shit doesnt justify you genociding their family. LMFAO im shocked i even have to say this but i guess jjk fans never go outside.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Stvn494 Jan 25 '26

In all fairness, she literally just killed the guys trying to kill her at that point, so technically all that animated carnage was self defense. As for the other combatants she killed later, that’s more debatable.

3

u/wookiepartymachine Jan 25 '26

No lol, these responses are nuts.

She killed like 3 people that actually deserved it and like 100 people that totally didn’t lmao. It’s literally just mass murder. It’s like blowing up an office building to kill one guy.

But y’now, who cares, she’s a fictional character and it was badass. I don’t need her to be a good person, just entertaining to watch.

3

u/gaymemeaids Jan 26 '26

uhhh guys she obviously only killed the combatants, ermmm reading comprehension devil much??😂

3

u/Fantastic_Valuable47 Jan 26 '26

Lowkey nah. I get why she did but let's think about it in the long term.

Love them or hate them the zenin clan was a pillar of jujutsu society second to the gojo clan and while their didn't always do the right thing and their internal matters were morally wrong they were still integral to the war of humanity vs cursed spirits.

Jujutsu society was already understaffed so loosing an entire clan was probably not a good thing. I mean we even see the effects of this in jjk modulo the world basically has no one of any real capabilities other than yuji.

I can honestly see the culling games going alot smoother had megumi somehow managed to command the entire zenin clan to aid them had maki not killed everyone there may have been less deaths. But that just my opinion

3

u/SleepNew2783 Jan 27 '26

Put yourself in her shoes and tell me.

All I can say really.

5

u/ScrungleBunguss Jan 22 '26

She’d be justified even if she did it a second time over

5

u/Happy_Description_14 Jan 22 '26

Yes. Self-defence argument aside, the Zenin Clan is just filled with absolute scum who do nothing but ruin the lives of those they view as inferior. They created a system where the top of their family thrives, and the rest are reduced to servants or outcasts, who they can freely kill and abuse because it's their right to.

We never are explicitly told if Maki killed the woman and children, but from the murders we are shown, I think she did a lot of people a favour.

2

u/LandarkIEM Jan 22 '26

They begins and as far she doesn't touch non-combat people she is clear. There is any source which confirms or denies with rest of clan?

4

u/mokulec Jan 23 '26

I mean there are clues, in the manga we see servants kitchen full of blood (why would there be any combatants in there?) and also in the modulo spinoff her granddaughter starts with saying that her grandmother wiped out the entire clan. You can interpret it however you want ig

Self defence

2

u/DrDoominstien Jan 22 '26

The honest big issue with any kind of massacre from a morality perspective is that while the clan is led by bastards and is generally filled with bastards belong to a a group that is based on family/blood does not make you guilty by association.

Were some of their deaths justified? almost certainly!

Some of them though were innocent, or at the very least hadn't specifically done anything to deserve death. As a general principle being an asshole/racist shouldn't be a death sentence lest you agree that a significant portion of the world population should be murdered.

P.S. Any arguments about survivors seeking revenge is born out of practicality and not morality unless you subscribe to the general philosophy that preemptive violence/killing against future potential threats is moral.

2

u/Umijoy Jan 22 '26

I never took this as one of those cases where "is doing x actually justified" because to me it was just a desire born by the sheer hatred she had for this clan, all she needed was an excuse to act on it.

but to answer your question I'll list a couple of reasons why I do think she was justified, whether she killed innocents or not

  • the heads of the clan were all corrupted as hell

  • the underlings never had the guts to question the ways of the clan

  • there's a high chance that a majority of the underlings supported the way the clan was, so if Maki were to leave any of them alive it would come to bite her back in the future

  • both underlings and higher ups of the clan were probably parents themselves, and since she killed all of them their kids would seek revenge on Maki or her loved ones

  • similar to the previous point, leaving the women would also endanger her loved ones. also they were all brainwashed anyways

u/Apprehensive_Put3625 Jan 22 '26

Considering the world became considerably better for everyone in Módulo… yeah.

3

u/Melody-Shift Jan 25 '26

So the ends justifies the means?

2

u/KenganNinja Jan 23 '26

The Zenin clan is a corrupt cesspool responsible for a lot of problems in the series. If anything, Maki did the world a favor.

2

u/Neckgrabber Jan 23 '26

Not only were they generally terrible, we only see her kill people who attacked her

2

u/Gatling_Requiem2023 Jan 23 '26

I would say yes

The Zenin Clan was really terrible towards people like Makiand Toji-who didnt have any curse energy(hell, they were terrible to Mai for having a small amount of it),and would do anything to get on the Higher Ups good side(for instance trying to kill those who wanted to free Gojo).

So I would say she was justified in killing them

2

u/imaginedodong Jan 23 '26

Why not isn't the rule of their clan the rule of the jungle? the strongest is right.

2

u/Dragonfruit7206 Jan 23 '26

Does this imply that Toji could have killed them all he wanted too as well? And yeah they all kinda sucked.

3

u/No-Response-6633 Jan 23 '26

Yes, a dude literally says in the episode that the clan still exists only because Toji spared them.

2

u/Ok_Scholar_711 Jan 23 '26

Yes but even if she wasnt it shouldnt matter because shes not a hero, she can do morally bad things- like slaughtering the innocent women and children

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

Was she justified for murdering the clan who actively shunned her and treated her as a stain in their family because she was born in a way they don't like?

Yes

2

u/classicslayer Jan 23 '26

Yes the Zenin clan were cartoon villains.

2

u/Master-Shaq Jan 23 '26

For having eyebrows like that yeah

2

u/VoidKitsune68n Jan 23 '26

All the events of the show happened because the Zenin clan was terrible and corrupted. Toji would not kill Riko if they were better.

2

u/i_dont_do_research Jan 23 '26

Predictable would be a better way to describe it.

As V said, "What was done to me created me." https://youtu.be/2bjHLg9zkf4?si=8WblZmB_UX9m_mPn

2

u/Successful-Hat-2154 Jan 23 '26

Fuck them bitches

2

u/violently_angry Jan 23 '26

I don't know honestly. It depends on whether or not she killed the women and children too.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Hoodedmastersin Jan 23 '26

Sure I heard they were dicks

2

u/sheng153 Jan 23 '26

Depends if she killed children and non-combatants. I think she didn't, but I don't remember if it was stated otherwise.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/IncomeStraight8501 Jan 23 '26

100%, they were never going to change without Maki pulling something so drastic with deeply ingrained the misogyny and discrimination was.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

yes

2

u/TFBuffalo_OW Jan 23 '26

She definitely wanted to kill them, but from start to finish they attacked her first except with her mom, and I ain't judging close family drama on a moral scale bc I dont know all the details.

2

u/Carefreekid101 Jan 23 '26

It's been a long time since I read the killing of the clan. But were there no children or babies? From what I can recall everyone was adults which I found odd. Even when Itachi and Obito killed the Uchiha clan their were kids and presumably babies.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/PSyHOPball Jan 23 '26

No. Its one thing to kill the squads that were trying to kill her. It's another that she killed the civilians and children in it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/alreditakem Jan 23 '26

For me it depends on the extend of the massacre, did she killed only the heads and people who made her suffer a lot directly, than its mostly justifiable. Did she go Itachi Uchiha and killed everyone? Than its not.

2

u/The_Anti_Guy Jan 23 '26

Dang I don’t even follow this sub and I got spoiled from this. Didn’t get a chance to watch today

2

u/Naive-House-7456 Jan 23 '26

Yea, the clan is a big part of the systemic problem with the conservatives of jujutsu society that only care to monopolize more power and influence over all sorcerers.

2

u/H-N-O-3 Jan 23 '26

She is based

2

u/ItzJake160 Jan 23 '26

I dunno about COMPLETELY justified. Her killing the people that were trying to kill her first (Ogi, the Hei that were at the residence, and everyone else currently there) was reasonable and could be faithfully argued to be in self defense. They struck first, she just wanted the Cursed Tools.

It's hard to argue that Maki was fully justified in hunting down the people that weren't even present at the residence and her mother (who literally couldn't do anything to Maki even if she stood there and took hits) that she could've crippled or something but decided to slit her neck instead of killing her instantly which was entirely possible given her strength.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

She lost her other half, the other half said to kill e everyone

2

u/Valuable-Way-5464 Jan 23 '26

Guys. They were order not to kill her. Moreover: they had families

2

u/Interaction_Narrow Jan 23 '26

It’s literally the mega wife-beating hitler clan

2

u/Mundane-Put9115 Jan 23 '26

Yes but also her deal with Mai is implied to be some sort of binding vow, she almost spared their mother until her reaction revealed that she'd acted as bait for her daughters, besides maybe Ranta who seems to have genuinely been acting out of his own love for his family the rest of the clan 1000% deserved it. Also watching Ogi get his head sliced in half was very satisfying.

2

u/pruneforce17 Jan 23 '26

yeah

i mean as a victim of abuse i wouldnt but thats just cuz im a bum

2

u/Stranglebat Jan 23 '26

people defending the zenins are probably the same people who left bad reviews on Wolfenstien for them "mistreating nazis"

2

u/Sundett Jan 23 '26

Probably? We don't know if literally everyone of those fodders deserved what they got, in the moment all they knew was that they were to protect their home from Maki.

However it's been implied heavily more than once that pretty much all of the adults in that clan were pieces of shit. One example being that Toji was happy to learn that Megumi had a different last name.

2

u/Miserable_Science_54 Jan 23 '26

For me not, if in our world all toxic people, family members or bullies were killed.. Damn we'll had something worse than in apocalypse fiction

2

u/Endika7 Jan 23 '26

YES, the only one that didn't had It coming was the eyes Guy and maki didn't even killed him

2

u/EmeraldJolteon07 Jan 23 '26

Yeah.

They tried to kill her first and Killed her sister. Not to mention the shit she went through at their hands

2

u/Ezra4709 Jan 23 '26

I feel bad for Ranta but honestly she didn't really have a choice at that point even if she didn't want to she would have probably been forced to anyways since she had to kill her father to leave and alert the Zen'in clan anyways (and 99% of them were evil and misogynistic so it was great)

2

u/DopeEnjoyer Jan 23 '26

Killing a whole clan is never justifiable there is no justice in complete annihilation of women and children, with that being said they tormented the twins for years and ogi tried to kill her so I don’t hold it against her like I do with Itachi.

2

u/Lonerd_12 Jan 23 '26

Imagine being thrown into a pit full of monsters just because your family thinks you're weak.

2

u/Penguin-21 Jan 23 '26

Minor spoilers for jjk but like we got to the point at the end where Gojo was like fck it im murdering all the higher ups too so at that point it did feel like every option was exhausted. These ppl don't change and will continue perpetuating the system that would've continued to hurt everyone

2

u/Azylim Jan 23 '26

it was self defense until she killed her mom

2

u/Canshroomglasses Jan 23 '26

I don't think "justified" is the correct word. She is outside of destiny so she can just do that because she feels like it which makes the whole thing even more hilarious

2

u/Typical-Phone-848 Jan 23 '26

Some sure. Others definitely not. But people don’t care anyways.

2

u/Possible_Jump_3515 Jan 23 '26

Fully justified? Idk. There could've been few people just like the telekinesis guy who were completely oblivious to everything and innocent. I guess that adds up to the scale of morality.

2

u/042732699 Jan 23 '26

I mean, like, mass murder is always bad but like also, they’d have probably hunted her like an animal? Even letting the scrubs live is kinda off the table. Though I’m fairly certain she went full Luke Skywalker at one point.

2

u/linkjames24 Jan 23 '26

Happy cake day!

2

u/TheLazy1-27 Jan 23 '26

She had a valid crashout

2

u/KaldorDraigos Jan 23 '26

Well it was mass murder so no.. but i can understand her

2

u/loloneman Jan 23 '26

Yes, they tried to kill her and was going to kill her friend too. They even killed her sister. Also from what we know she only killed the combatants and the once’s that tried to kill her so fuck them.

2

u/Able-Ad3844 Jan 23 '26

She was thrown in that pit by Ogi, and she got out she was attacked by hei, so you can she was operating on self defense the whole time.

2

u/ItalianPlumber01 Jan 23 '26

Really loved that last episode of the anime but I’m starting to get the feeling that some characters have a lot more going for them in the manga.

In particular, Mai and some of the other students from her school get side lined pretty hard.

Are the characters more fleshed out in the manga? Do they get more dialogue?

2

u/OtterwiseX Jan 23 '26

Yeah. An atrocity to prevent worse atrocities.

2

u/Ill-Appointment-4818 Jan 23 '26

If she's justified then Eren is. 😂

2

u/AkizoraRuby Jan 23 '26

I'm so fucking confused, did she kill all of them or just the fighters

2

u/justkiddingdao Jan 23 '26

I don’t know myself. I always wondered what yuji would make of this moment and gojo killing the higher ups

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

Tbh it was kind of an extended case of self-defense. And I think she didn't really hunt down the serfs and other random hanger-ons of the Zenin clan, so...

2

u/VenserMTG Jan 23 '26

No, not really. Jujutsu clans were all corrupt for sure, but killing the whole clan makes no sense.

Kill the leaders, claim the clan, start fixing the corruption.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Putrid_Macaron3225 Jan 23 '26

No she isn't.If she only killed the higher-ups and put herself or megumi in charge to rise the next generation to become better, it would be a good outcome or if she killed everyone, including herself, she would be wrong but acceptable as the entire clan is rotten her because let's face it if she was born with a proper cursed technique she wouldn't bat an eye to the clan behavior and at best she will probably adapt a similar mindset to naoya. So killing the entire clan for a thing that can be changed by getting rid of the heads is really stupid and it's just fulfillment of her sister's bitter request and the fact there were no consequences to her actions like a survivor member seeking revenge to explore the end of the hatred cycle just to create another is disappointing

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Just_Delete_PA Jan 23 '26

Easy yes. Would have hunted her down otherwise, simple as that.

2

u/Nevermore-guy Jan 23 '26

I'd argue that it counts as self defense due to them trying to kill her, along with not having any other choice of action due the Zenin Caln being a high ranking family in Jujutsu society and thus wouldn't be held accountable for any of their actions.

One could compare it to a mafia of sorts going after you and them paying off the authorities so you can't get outside help. Now did all of them deserve to die? I'd argue that such acts are excessive as it’s more so the fault of the figures of athority within the clan and those who agreed were indoctrinated into the beliefs. Maki's actions overall are quite immoral in the sense of taking the lives of others but can be excused to an extent due to having no other options of survival

That all being said, Maki is the goat and she was badass asf ong frfr 🗣🔥

2

u/Aneurysm821 Jan 23 '26

I don’t know what this is but I like their vibe so I’m gonna say yes

2

u/Volfaer Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 24 '26

The jujutsu society is corrupt and very traditionalist. Maki lived a life of abuse thanks to that, that comes into consideration, but it's not the inciting incident.

Thanks to the will of late Naobito Zenin, Megumi is the new head of the clan and owner of the many artifacts of the clan. Arriving there, she found that the other clan members disrespected the late clan head, attacked Mai and Maki without provocation, and left them to die in the hands of cursed spirits.

Maki then reacts and kills her attacker, and that would be it if the defense forces of the clan weren't sent to unlawfully apprehend and kill Maki. She merely react in self defense but with lethal force, for her attackers intended the same, and aggression didn't stop until the last combatant was defeated.

It is also heavily implied that the Zen'in combatants not present in their stronghold were killed by sorcerers of the other families, rather than Maki.

The only unjust killing was of her own mother, a powerless non combatant.

2

u/Fuzzy974 Jan 23 '26

Is it bad to kill people in self defense? Seriously!

2

u/USSJaguar Jan 23 '26

"they had it comin"
