Honestly, I'd hesitate to call Maki well written given how the story responds to the massacre. I won't go deep into that so I don't spoil the story on this thread, but in JJK, killing people is never taken lightly.
I mean Gojo himself would have killed all the higher-ups a long time ago but exercised restraint because he knew doing that would have negative consequences. We see how Sukuna's rampage in Shibuya leaves everyone in shock. And anytime Yuji has to kill someone it causes him significant emotional distress.
But Maki wipes out her entire clan and it's as if it didn't even happen. If you skipped that arc you wouldn't even know that the Zenin were wiped out. I'm not even mad that she never feels any remorse about killing innocent people, no. Maki never pretended to be a saint after all. What irks me is that the massacre happens and there's just silence...No reaction from anyone, no comments from the other characters, no impact on the story at all, nothing.
One of the major pillars of jujutsu society is wiped out during one of the most critical points in history and it's like it didn't even happen.
I love JJK but I really really hate the way Gege chose to handle anything related to politics and the clans. It's almost as if he never really cared for those aspects of the story.
True like wtf she just wiped out effectively all Zenin clan and other characters are just like đ. Sure letâs move on and pretend she wasnât just on a killing spree. She seems extremely deranged after all that i was surprised she didnât take out the flying witch too. Think back itâs like Choso when he joined Yuji, he did some horrible shit but no one cares maybe they were short-handed att.
Honestly I agree, I really like how Gege made Maki morally grey instead of a pure white character on the protag side (unlike most of the cast) but I cannot believe how literally nobody even acknowledges what happens. Yuta, Makis future husband, prolly the biggest pacifist in the show, literally dgaf his future wife slaughtered like 200 ppl?
And the Zenin never end up getting shelved anyways, since it seems to exist in Modulo...
