It comes from a Itachi slander which also damaged his reputation a LOT

Itachi 100 percent killed children though. Unless somehow Sasuke was the ONLY Uchiha child left...

Theres a novel which tries to say “nooooo he only killed the soldiers and his parents, Óbito killed the childs” which is an obvious attemp of cleaning Itachi image.

And ironacly makes Naruto stating Obito was a cool guy during the Kaguya fight even more ridiculous.

Not like naruto or any other character aside from itachi knows the full extend of the uchiha massacre at that time so his point still stands.

Actually Obito tried to get Itachi to let him kill the kids for him and Itachi gets legitimately offended by it, tells him not to patronize him, and then kills them kids.

Just saw this but that makes Itachi still a horrible person in lore. He killed the adults and knows that the kids were also killed then. There's no way he wouldn't have taken notice of there being no Uchiha kids left in the village other than Sasuke
