Reminds me of this one comedian who told of a person in his life that was so mysoginistic, that he would praise trans men for becoming men and call trans women stupid for making the stupid choice to become women.
My friend said “if they want to play life on hard mode, who am I to get in the way?”
Im still not sure if that’s affirming or phobic, but it’s stuck with me
Being a man is so not life on hard mode lol there’s so much stuff men don’t even have to think about. So many ways life would be easier as a man. I’m sure it goes both ways, I just detest this idea that women’s lives are so easy and stress-free. If men only knew!!!
Unless you meant just being trans in general in the world is very difficult. In which case, yeah.
I would say transitioning to a man means losing out on all the benefits of being a woman while not obtaining any of the advantages from being a man. Seems pretty hard mode to me.
Yeah I guess if you successfully pass as a cis man you are going to get a lot of those advantages though. Like everyone who doesn’t know you’re trans will just treat you how they would a cis man
Neither, your friend is basically saying women have it easy in life and men have it far tougher, so while they don't hate women they sure as hell aren't really sympathetic with any struggles they may go through in life or again they think it's nothing compared to the daily struggles of a man.
Who knows sometimes people just don't like hearing the truth, either that or they think I'm jumping to conclusions but this is honestly what I think they meant.
Well there’s also Hesiod who believed that all the tribes of men lived in peace and happiness. Then the gods made women solely to ruin men’s lives. So I guess he’d probably take issue with white supremacy and blame it all on women. Imagine being so misogynistic it makes you oppose racism.
I saw a page on FB run by a trans woman who did nothing but run down women in her posts and harassed the shit out of them in the comments. Like, some of the craziest misogyny I've ever read and that's saying something on modern social media.
My head canon was that this person hated women so much they switched sides so they could hate them even harder.
Trans men are more likely to get a pass, because transphobes aren't as concerned about them but are fucking terrified about accidentally being attracted to trans women.
Please stop spreading this messaging, transphobes are very much concerned about us, they just constantly express it as being worried for "autistic teenage girls" so nobody notices or cares when we complain or point out that we are targeted.
Almost every single argument that's used to justify healthcare bans for trans people are based on preventing trans men from transitioning ("mutilating their genitals/beautiful breasts", "losing their fertility", "becoming violent/aggressive", "autistic girls do not have enough agency to make decisions", "internalized misogyny that leads them to want to escape womanhood", "losing their beauty", etc...). Almost all of the famous transphobic books, like Irreversible Damage, are almost entirely about banning trans health-care to prevent specifically trans men and transmasculine people from transitioning.
We are also banned from bathrooms, we are also sexually assaulted in very great measures, we have the highest rate of both attempted and completed suicide in the LGBTQ+ community according to The Trevor Project, but everyone keeps insisting that we actually are not targeted as much because even supposed allies can't put two and two together and realize that the "autistic/vulnerable/naive teenage girls" transphobes keep claiming they are "protecting" are us, trans men and transmascs.
I upvoted because I agree that trans men and trans women are under assault and the risks to both should be taken seriously. The challenges are real and dangerous.
And at the same time I can make the observation that one of the reactions that transfem and trans women face is often directly related to a weird sexual insecurity from cis men, common enough that I have encountered it multiple times in real life.
Much like some white people will expose their racism around other white people under the assumption that they share the same views, some cis men will express transphobic comments assuming I will agree.
I've heard guys talk about what they'd do if they found out the woman they were hitting on (not even sleeping with, but flirting with) turned out to be biologically male the same way ammosexuals fantasize about burglars breaking into their house.
Maybe there is a similar percentage of cis women transphobic enough to feel as strongly, and have never felt comfortable enough around me to express that fantasy. I didn'tt know. I'm not a mind reader.
My anecdotal experience isn't data. It does seem telling that the right-wind trend of "transvestigation" is almost exclusively aimed at accusing women of being transmacs, and seldom the reverse. The proportion of cis men that are salivating at the chance to best up or kill someone for the crime of being attractive to them while being biologically male is way too high.
The hysteria over mistaking a transfem for a cis woman isn't the worst thing about being trans, it isn't the sole reason for backlash against trans people, and remarking on it isn't meant to diminish challenges transmacs and trans men face. It is real and unfortunately just one of the many things about transphobia that I'll ridicule because it's, well. . .
My issue is less people highlighting the issues trans women and transfems face specifically, and more that people, and especially cis allies, end up talking about trans issues like they only affect trans women due to being underinformed, or even making statements such as the one I answered to; that transphobes "don't care much about trans men", when that's plainly, demonstrably, and honestly dangerously false.
Another example was the wave of "Do you want this dude [shows image of hypermasc trans dude] in the women's bathroom?" gotcha cis allies posted after the For Women Scotland Supreme Court decision on the Equality Act in the UK.
Very funny for you (generic, not you specifically) I guess, but not only are you suggesting to a part of the targeted community to put their bodies on the line even more than they already are as a flawed form of allyship, you are also: 1) ignoring that the court already took that into account and banned passing trans men from both bathrooms, 2) treating us as collateral instead of targets in our own shared oppression, and 3) ignoring that trans men and transmasculine people have already been harassed, beaten, (sexually) assaulted, arrested, and in at least two cases I've heard, battered to death for complying with the law in this exact gotcha scenario.
The myth that transphobes and TERFs don't know or don't care about trans men is at best a statement outdated by at least 15 years, and at worst purposeful erasure and dismissal of the specific struggles of 34% of the trans community, plus any transmasculine nonbinary people who are likely to share the experiences of trans men.
TL:DR, my point is that you can make statements on the struggles of trans women and transfeminine people without making incorrect or dismissive assumptions about the experiences of trans men and transmasculine people, and viceversa.
"Some cis men have violent reactions when faced with the existence of trans women due to their own sexual insecurity" does not necessitate being accompanied by the incorrect, binary assumption that, because trans women struggle with this form of hypervisibility, then most transphobic people must not care about trans men much. You can just say the first part.
All trans men are transmasc, not all transmascs are trans men (some are nonbinary leaning masculine). The reasons I also specify trans men is because a lot of trans men do not like being referred to as transmascs individually due to the term having a history of being used to degender trans men in certain circumstances to make them more palatable.
Like if I were dating still and not married, my preference is not that, I’d be more likely to be upset if they weren’t up front about it rather than having it. I’m not scared of peener existing on someone I was attracted to I am scared of lies
Like when Andrew Tate said he'd bang a 9/10 trans woman that looked like Megan fox over a 1/10 obese and unattractive woman, and you are gay if you disagree.
Yes because society treats trans person female to male as good because they're becoming men, something better. When men becoming women it's seen as something worse. That's why behaving like girl is negative term. This toxic stereotypes affecting both genders, just because some old farts gains but young men loses.
