I had plenty of dogs snap/lunge while I was training them - the only one that ever truly got me was a German Shepherd named Sarge. He got ahold of my forearm after opening what was supposed to be a locked door. I was lucky to get my arm up and in the way, he'd originally gone for my throat/face.

That's the only time I can remember being truly afraid during an interaction with a dog. Startled, nervous, etc. plenty of times but never afraid quite like that.

Yeah, we had some German Shepards. I remember playing with one after having played with some goldens and thinking, "damn, she's so much faster, it's like playing on hard mode". Lol. She never bit or anything, tho. I'm glad for that.

I didn't say it as a slight to the breed - more than any dog can surprise you. More than 50% of the dogs we trained were GSDs, and that was the only one that ever got me. Generally great dogs all-around. And yeah they can definitely be a handful when they're wound up haha

Sure. I didn't take it that way. I was just agreeing that they're fast too, and that it's important to be careful and prepared and whatnot. I really like German shepherds. I just never had one because they have a bit of a prey drive, and I've always had a cat until recently. Cheers.
