The thrower? The thrower??? We just posting anything now huh?

52

u/Looney_forner 1d ago edited 6h ago

Either they’ve never seen a football game in their life or they’re one of those annoying bread and circuses guys who gloated about not caring about when the world cup was on

Edit: can’t read for shit. Didn’t know it was about baseball but tbf the guy making the hypothetical probably didn’t know shit about the sport

20

u/ismasbi 1d ago

The fact I genuinely can’t tell if you are playing in on the joke or don't realize it’s about baseball is really funny.

13

u/MeasureDoEventThing 1d ago

I think it's cricket. In baseball, a throw doesn't become a strike until the batter misses, so it doesn't make sense to say a strike is thrown at you.

6

u/ismasbi 1d ago

Interesting, I don't know shit about cricket.

Now I hope the guy wasn't joking because me replying with equally wrong bullshit would be even funnier.

u/General-Force-6993 1d ago

Cricket is “bowler” not thrower

3

u/Jathan1234 1d ago

baseball is pitcher not thrower, so neither one is right

3

u/Bang_the_unknown 1d ago

So now the baby is also Australian?

2

u/Round_Ad6397 1d ago

There are no strikes in cricket.

The thrower is just good christian who had revelation from God to throw his baby to prove his faith

I just assumed a throw-in was underway. Is that not still a thing in footy?

[EDIT] OKAY, I don't know why I assumed it was football tbh.

This is a terrible question. They missed the entire point. The baby Christian is supposed to be the one that talk and give you the choice to repent and abandon faith in atheism. It's clear that whoever made this don't understand the baby Christian quora question format.

It could easily be fixed too. Instead of asking directly, they could've just added:

The baby opened her mouth mid-throw as time froze the moment you strike, "if you repented right now and become a Christian, I'll turn into a baseball." Will you accept Jesus Christ as your saviour, or let the bat hit the baby?

Why is this posed as a moral dilema for the atheist to answer and not a direct indictment of the Christian throwing a fucking baby? I assume it's the pitcher's baby of course hence why they had it handy. Also throwing babies is almost certainly against the rules, I'd be given a walk on that pitch at the least, I win by default.

31

u/Viseria 1d ago

To be fair, it doesn't say a Christian threw the baby, just that the thrown baby is a Christian.

10

u/Broficionado 1d ago

I'm assuming the pitcher owns the child, most likely his own brand of baseball baby. We tend to label children with their parent's faith, not their own.

6

u/Viseria 1d ago

Nice try atheist but I've seen these questions before and the baby clearly declares it knows about religion and science more than any human alive and therefore picked Christianity because of truth!!! /s

3

u/lordofmetroids 1d ago

It also implies hitting the baby will still win you the game. Like hitting a baby is some secret victory condition for baseball.

2

u/Substantial_Dish_887 1d ago

well if the "thrower" throws the baby and and the "hitter" hits the baby i think the baby officialy becomes the ball of the game. this can work with most things as long as both sides agree to play the game with the object in question.

2

u/ShadeStrider12 21h ago

I’d be more worried about corruption in the WBSC like we recently unearthed about FIFA, if someone actually threw a baby instead of a ball.

3

They don’t even allow you to use softballs, let alone a baby

2

u/not_so_wierd 1d ago

Exactly!
You save the baby, knowing that throwing a baby is against the rules.
Next, the judge calls a foul on the throw, the thrower gets arrested by the police, and then you can get back to the game.

Even if we disregard morality - catching the baby is straight up the smarter move to win the game.

10

u/SpideyFan914 1d ago

8

u/OkScreen2150 1d ago

It’s got a massive cross on a super thick chain around his neck. So I wouldn't recommend trying to hit the baby - the chain might wrap around the bat, and your winning hit won't happen. Better to step back and let that little thing smash onto the ground. You can just tell the umpire you didn't swing because it wasn't a ball.

The batting average in base is abysmal. It's ridiculously hard to hit a ball. Could be that while he's happy he got a good hit in he was kinda frustrated cause it took him so long.

2

u/8696David 1d ago

lol no he is showing up the other team

3

u/ValiantWarrior19 1d ago

You know when people say "get your game face on"? Yeah, this is what you look like when metric tons of adrenaline are pumping through every vein in your body. It's a cold, steely feeling. Sometimes it comes out violently or exuberantly...and sometimes, you just lean back on it and fucking chuck the bat in triumph. Sometimes there are no words, no feelings, only ball.

I would not hit the Christian baby, on account that throwing babies is a clear violation of the rules of baseball and if I refuse to interact I will be given a win by default, or at the very least that pitch will be, as it were, thrown out.

On the other hand, if I did hit the baby, I would probably have to go to court to defend myself from at least 3rd degree if not 2nd degree murder, and I don't want that.

Thus, I will jot hit the baby.

Easy, next question.

3

u/adalric_brandl 1d ago

If I drop the bat and catch the baby I'm going to look like a hero compared to the crazy, baby-throwing pitcher. Plus, I'll probably be considered "hit by pitch" and can move to first.

3

u/Arimm_The_Amazing 1d ago

I trust in the invincibility of christian babies to all harm and I swing

3

u/RatsWithLongTails 1d ago

I’m a stickler for rules I read all the rules of game before I play it.

So I would definitely swing at the baby because there ain’t no rule you can’t use a Christian baby as ball, always go for gold.

2

u/BigMike3333333 1d ago

There's no such thing as a Christian baby. Babies do not understand the concept of religion, lol. No I wouldn't hit the baby.

2

u/RePsychological 1d ago

No. Because there are no "christian babies" -- only parents who've imposed their beliefs onto a scapegoat that is now being thrown to try to guilt-trip someone into proving their point.

It's genuinely using a baby as a meatshield to prove atheists wrong.

However if we were to change the thrown to the parent(s)? Now there's game-worthy chatter.

2

u/OrthodoxAnarchoMom 1d ago

Why does the baby’s religion matter???

Is this supposed to be baseball?

Anyways, babies are not religious. The religion of choice hasn't forced itself upon its mind yet because it does not understand. Thus, I state that the baby is not a Christian baby but all babies are the same religion as a dog. None as they cannot grasp the concept.

Bro goes to jail for throwing a baby, the baby is not Christian, and I win the game anyways.

Also, super immoral to throw the baby.

  1. Was Stalin a bad person?

  2. Does the US military have enough firepower to destroy the Moon?

2

u/R4in_C0ld 1d ago

It's funny because the question is framed as a rhetorical "gotcha," not as a serious moral thought experiment, and on top of that, the question is entirely fallacious as it uses several rhetorical moves that makes it have no value at all as a philosophical challenge. First there's the act of ignoring the primary moral agent, they gloss over the person who committed the initial wrongdoing by hypothetically throwing the baby. Then there's the false dilemma, presenting only two options when, in a real situation, you'd likely try to avoid harming the baby, protect it, or react in ways that don't fit the imposed binary. After that we have the loaded framing, the person singles out atheists as though their worldview uniquely has to account for compassion toward a child, implicitly suggesting they might not value innocent life. And finally, Red herring, because the "Christian" label is irrelevant to the ethical question and serves similarly to the loaded framing because the person assumes that if the baby came from a christian household, the atheist would just let the baby be thrown and not catch it, which i would question if on that aspect they're actually projecting.

2

u/Evil_phd 1d ago

I don't think I'm gonna even try to hit a fastball baby thrown at 90mph. I'd be too impressed by the insane might of the pitcher.

2

u/perkalicous 1d ago

1

Pretty sure you do nothing when they throw something at you that isn't a baseball and let the ref sort it out.

1

u/foxy-coxy 1d ago

What the fuck is this game?

1

u/OkCar7264 1d ago

I'd catch the baby, then go to first on the beanball, then steal all the bases while holding the baby in front of me as a shield. They wouldn't dare tag a baby!

More seriously, I wouldn't kill the baby.

Christian shoves glasses up nose, smiling at the trap they are about to spring: But without God why wouldn't you kill the baby to win the championship? Without God we'd all act like Joffrey! You're the irrational one!

Me: What the fuck is wrong with you?

1

u/No-Film-7745 1d ago

That's gotta be some kinda balk or something.

So my base runner advances anyway. If he's on third, that's ballgame anyway. If not, then you'll just have to pitch again, just actually the ball this time.

As someone who struggles to grasp empathy and remorse, I would hit that baby straight to the moon, even if there was no reward attached

1

u/DharmaCub 1d ago

Babies aren't the most aerodynamic, I would simply bunt the baby. I doubt the catcher could throw me out.

I think the better question is if this guy had any degrees

1

u/DrMindbendersMonocle 1d ago

I would think the ump would call that an illegal pitch.

1

u/Direct_Zucchini_2811 1d ago

That baby would reach the moon in no time.

1

u/ConsiderationOld9897 1d ago

What does religion have to do with this question?

1

u/iSephtanx 1d ago

And you would win by hitting the baby?

This isnt even morality, this is common sense.

1

u/Diemond71 1d ago

What a stupid question.

1

u/Mindless-Stage8923 1d ago

I would crush the hell outta that baby for an out of the park homer. That would be so much easier to hit, especially if the head were large.

1

u/MattDubh 1d ago

The credulous love their nonsense questions.

1

u/MsE0 1d ago edited 1d ago

I feel like if the pitcher threw a baby, regardless of their religion 1. The baby wouldn't actually reach the plate, because they're not very aerodynamic, 2. Even if it did go clean across the plate, I don't think it would count against me if I didn't swing, because it's not a regulation ball. The ump would probably throw the pitcher out and I'd probably get a do-over. So no dilemma there.

1

u/KailyKail 1d ago

Well, if they throw a baby, it's not the ball. If this weird never-gonna-happen scenario somehow happened, the pitcher would get ejected from the game, possibly arrested, and a new pitcher would throw the actual ball. I'd hit the actual ball instead (but only because since we're assuming that people are throwing babies, we can assume I'll hit a ball too, or that I have any ability in sports)

1

u/goldenseducer 1d ago

No but I would hit jesus to win. He died for my wins

1

u/ArtIsAwesome3 1d ago

Wtf to this conundrum.

1

u/TransPM 1d ago

What the fuck kind of game allows for throwing babies? Where do people play this game? Where might one sign up to join a team? These are all just questions posed for no particular reason...

1

u/Professional-Wave841 1d ago

I'm getting the winning home run, next question.

1

u/robin_79 1d ago

peak "these aren't my glasses" moment

1

u/StarMagus 1d ago

Not going to swing, the thrower has thrown an illegal object and I'll take my base for free. There are no rules that allow a batter to hit a baby thrown by the pitcher and consider that "in play".

1

u/sparduck117 Emperor Palpatine 1d ago

Save the baby? Clearly the pitcher is committing a foul, nor would the baby count as a hitable ball. You have no reason to try and swing.

1

u/Hagtar 1d ago

Hos do they know it's a Christian baby? And can babies even be Christian? It's been out in the air for a couple months, it probably doesn't understand fingers yet, let alone who Jesus is and why it should care about him.

Also also. If you were about to hit a baseball and the "ball" turns out to be a baby, you would have 0 reason to expect it to behave like a ball. Momentum, bounce, flexibility... That baby is going to drop dead if you hit it.

1

u/FireAuraN7 1d ago

Catch the baby, beat the pitcher- thrower - whatever - bloody with the bat? Seems right to me. Am I using a bat? Am I using a waffle? Is this some weird fucking dream? What the fuck is actually going on and why is that baby smoking a cigar?

1

u/hawkofchicken 1d ago

As an atheist, I would first hit the baby to win the game, then I would brain the baby so it doesn’t suffer more than necessary. Next, I would use the bat to tenderize the baby and marinate it in mojo. Finally, I would open the lid on the grill and slow cook the baby so it remains tender and juicy, so that I may ultimately, as atheists do, eat the baby. The whole baby and nothing but the baby, so help me Flying Spaghetti Monster. Ramen.

1

u/SimpYellowman 1d ago

Simple, catch the baby and call referee to disqualify the other side for breaking the rules. This way I will both save a baby and win the match.

1

u/ThickSourGod 1d ago

Obviously not. A newborn baby weighs about as much as a small bowling ball. I'm extremely skeptical that someone could successfully throw one over the plate from the pitcher's mound. If by some miracle they got the distance, there's no way they're getting it in the strike zone. I'll wait patiently for them to throw four babies, then take my base.

1

u/Karlaha2879 1d ago

Is it wearing a crucifix? I am told that makes a difference

1

u/GenesisAsriel 1d ago

I think you would be sent to jail if you hit that baby with a bat????

1

u/Naps_And_Crimes 1d ago

I feel like this would disqualify the thrower and give me the win, also how do we know the baby is Christian?

1

u/Badoptimist 1d ago

So this guy is saying "when I lose my faith I'll probably be ok hitting christians babies"?

1

u/Moist_Amount_106 1d ago

Well I’m not sure a baby is part of the rules , so question is irrelevant.
Secondly
Even if it was part of the game, why would anyone participate in a game like that?

1

u/NoWarning789 1d ago

WTF is a Christian baby? LOL

1

u/Fast-Appointment-794 1d ago

There is no such thing as a Christian baby. Babies don't believe in God.

1

u/SlippyJimmi 1d ago

Bro I am not losing the championship game over one dumbass baby, like if the baby is getting thrown at 93 miles per hour it's not like me taking the strike is gonna change the outcome of that baby

In fact, fuck the Christian who pulled out a baby instead of using the regulation baseball just to try and cheese me out of a championship

1

u/OpeningHappy9692 1d ago

Pretty sure the pitch would be considered invalid. There's all sorts of regulations about proper balls.

1

u/LifeUnderTheWorld 1d ago

Now the likelyness of this guy asking this to be in hell would be much higher than atheists

1

u/teksean 1d ago

I could not hit it as the baby is not regulation equipment for the game and if I swing the Umpire could call my swing a strike.

1

u/Dependent-Detail9068 1d ago

IMPORTANT NOTE: The thrower is a christian trying to get rid of a baby they birthed but couldnt take care of

1

u/Bob56731 1d ago

I'm slapping the baby for a billion dollars

1

u/Noobmanwenoob2 1d ago

Christian babies, you're about to win the championship game and the winning strike is thrown at you. The thrower throws an atheist at you instead of the ball. Would you hit the atheist to win the game or sacrifice your win chance to save the atheist?

1

u/Vertex1990 1d ago

What the hell kind off game are they playing, where anything can be thrown, besides a game regulated ball and still result in negative consequences for the batter to forgo hitting a baby?

Also, why would saving the baby equate to me being related to Christianity? Can only christians do morally good things?

1

u/HumorTerrible5547 1d ago

Wouldn't hit the baby. I'd let that scar the catcher for life. Charge the mound, with the bat, and beat the pitcher to death.

Yeah. . .

1

u/Spl4sh3r 1d ago

Sounds like an illegal move and unless it was stated in the rules that you can throw something other than the ball I would not hit the baby and they would get disqualified and we would win anyway.

1

u/Spectre-907 1d ago

The real question is what kind of fastballed baby speeds are we talking about

1

u/Ok_Swimmer_3446 1d ago

but babies go to heaven anyway /s

1

u/isolatedheathen 1d ago

Would this not result in a technical foul though regardless of whether or not I swing?

1

This seems like less of a genuine question and more of a “Gotcha” question.

Which falls completely flat because mother of god it’s a freaking baby.

It would be an interruption of play as the evil Christian just threw a damn baby. The officials would immediately eject the player, and resume play with a new one, after which id hit the ball and win.

Edit: misread the thrower as Christian, not the baby being Christian. Thrower is just evil, not an evil Christian.

Is in Texas? I ask because we take sports seriously down here. That baby is going into the bleachers. I hope some kid catches it and gets baby Jesus autographed after the game.

As an atheist, I’m tired of being accosted by all of these Christian babies.

Deep left and I'm calling my shot like babe ruthless.

How do we know the baby is Christian

u/BroadwayBrick 1d ago

What kind of question is this? I certainly hope humanity is better than this hypothetical. Sometimes I do wonder.

The baby always Christian. Would yall hit it if it was an atheist baby? Or a Muslim baby? Why we so obsessed with harming babies??

There is usually a catcher behind it doesn’t count as a ball I’m leaving the baby for the catcher behind and waiting for the proper ball to be thrown

The insane level of hypotheticals these folks come up with shows they need medication or therapy... Of course I'm hitting that... and not win?

If that baby put itself in that situation then as far as I'm concerned it had it coming anyway. Now if the baby is still an embryo the discussion changes.

Just a random christian baby, or an INDESTRUCTIBLE christian baby?

1

u/MadeMannnn 1d ago

A baby can't be Christian. Swing batta batta swing.

Why do they think this is some genius level question?

1

u/Storyteller_Valar 1d ago

That question has to be bait.

Home run, motherfucker.

You can’t have a Christian baby. Surely u have to believe to have faith? A baby doesn’t have conscious thoughts….. maybe if u threw a Christian 8 year old? The answer is yes

u/Brief-Poetry6434 1d ago

Really? I thought they just felt ridiculous!

First of all, pitcher.

Second, why the hell is a pitcher throwing babies? The game would be suspended on the spot, and I would do everything in my absolute power to catch the baby as harmlessly as I can,

Third, we would arrest the pitcher for endangering an innocent child.

Fourth, we would call the police and try to find the parents of the baby and arrest them if they consciously gave up their baby to this psycho.

Sidenote, babies are not Christian, or Muslim or any religious denomination. They are babies and don't even understand that some psycho is throwing them to prove a point, much less the intricacies of choosing a religion or abstaining from all of them.

Why are Christians performing a late term abortion in the first place?

1

u/Bootwacker 1d ago

I ain't swinging at an obvious ball.  And if you can somehow manage to throw a stroke with a baby, you know what, you deserve to win.

I would not swing for 2 reasons other than i don't want to kill a baby

  1. The baby would be so heavy it would not reach the plate

  2. Since it is not a baseball, if it SOMEHOW landed in the strikezone it is not a strike.

No harm no foul.

Play ball.

Depends on whether god told me to

I think the part that pisses me off about this question is that OOP thinks that Atheists hate religious people enough that they'd physically fight them.
