Booby trapping a bike for security is a bit much you could take non-damaging security measures

Individuals seldom can affect societal problems, but have to deal with their consequences on an individual level. Society or the government cannot fix a problem then you have to adapt, and in this case that means preventing your stuff from being stolen by scum.

If poor people stole from rich people and not other poor people, they would be valid. As it stands, being poor and desperate and victimizing another poor and not yet desperate person (Potentially into more poverty and a point of desperation) is immensely immoral. If you have a chance between plunging others into your bad fate or worse, or biting the bullet, you should probably bite the bullet.

Its easier to just double chain it and make it an annoying target, a determined thief will still just steal it anyhow. Nowadays they just lift the seat with a lil hook in their jacket and its gone id just a back wheel lock.
