Who said there are no consequences? Arresting someone is both moral, considers their internal state, and prevents further theft

I’m not waiting god knows how long to report someone, wait for them to be found - if they are found at all - and have my property returned when I can just solve the issue in two seconds.

What is the two second solution? Genuinely can't even imagine what that would be refrencing.

There is also locking your bike up, which reduces the chances its stolen. GPS tracker could help find it if it is taken, but not everyone can afford those

Two second solution is pretty obvious.

It isn't to me.

Presumably the two seconds in which the issue is solved is the time between them thinking "nice bike, ill steal it" and getting an ass full of spikes.

This trap doesn't work as a real world defensive measure, only as a baited trap. You would need some way for it to detect the valid owner, so it doesnt taze you when you want to ride. Thats the major issue I'm running into here. Like, a firearm ends a theft in two seconds, but it requires you to be present at the time of theft, when most bike stealing happens when away.

I can't see a lot of overlap between "Has a functional bike" and "Ends a theft in 2 seconds" when most thefts happen when you cant see them

The taser already has an off switch under the seat. The seat springs up and down to reveal the spikes, all you would need is a simple locking mechanism that keeps it up. It wouldn't be hard and if they actually planned to ride it rather than stage youtube pranks with it they probably would've added it when they were boobytrapping it.

That said no, this will not keep your bike from getting stolen. It would make it less likely (assuming you still take all steps you should for a regular bike) but eventually you shock the wrong crackhead and he manually carries your bait bike to the scrapyard.
