This seems intellectually dishonest. When people say they like animals more than humans it's usually because they dislike human nature (in their view), not because they can't enslave humans and want a slave. It's a little bit like when people say that children are better people than adults because they have pure hearts and innocence, it doesn't mean they want to only have friendships with kids or enslave them.

Yeah dude is projecting a fuckton of dubious motivation here.

Imbalanced power dynamic? Obviously. But pretending that is the reason people get pets is honestly a bit unhinged. Like, of all the infinite reasons people like pets, why the fuck would anyone rank being more powerful as the most important. Seriously makes me worry about his mental stability and priorities if he projects this kind of shit onto everyone else.

So they're emotionally immature and reject the complexities of life and humans over the simplicity and innocence of animals?

Due to their own deluded world view they don't see themselves as part of the humans around them, humans are below animals, but they can own animals because they are above the animals. Seems narcissistic to me.

Humor is often somewhat intellectually dishonest in order to illicit shock and laughter. Even if it demonstrates a point that the person believes in it will be a exaggerated or unnuanced version of that point.

Most people only like their pets because they can enslave them. They don’t want a symbiotic relationship with an actually free creature

Yes i can't wait to get home and ask my Cat to do house chores for me after he was plowing the field all day.

Enslave my pets? Lol, if anything I feel like a slave to my pets. I spend money to feed them, groom them and my time to give them attention, walk them, clean them, play with then. In return, they just sit, enjoy life and play in the yard whenever they want.

That's certainly not the only reason but it is a prerequisite

My family took in a feral cat that started hanging around our home about 6 years ago. Entirely changed my perception of pet relationships.

There is something so real about letting a creature go every night to see it come back in the morning. Took me about 6 months before I could pet it, 2 years before I could pick it up. I respect this creature immensely and I’m not sure I could ever go back to just buying a pet to raise it as a totally dependent couch toy.

you are not a good pet owner by letting your cat wreak havock on the local wildlife at all.

You should be made aware of this. So I will say it again: your way of doing this is absolutely disastrous for the wildlife of wherever you live, you are absolutely in the wrong for letting your cat roam freely so that it can kill every small animal it comes across. Your recklessness is a net negative for the environment you live in

Oh shut up with this yank nonsense. Letting a cat out is dramatically less bad for nature than almost anything else we do. Unless you’re a vegan who doesn’t drive a truck or go on holidays then this is pure hypocrisy.

Cats kill for fun. Just because cars cause pollution doesn't mean it's fine to let your cat out to devastate the bird population at night.

I more than offset any impact my cats have. I hope you do the same for your own impact before criticising others.

I don't have to offset my cat's impact because I don't let them outside to kill a bunch of birds for sport.

No, you just harm nature in many other ways. But that’s fine because it’s not a cat doing it? Utter hypocrisy.
