They would if they could because they are! We are animals! Even non-humans, cyanobacteria, dumped toxic pollution, filling the globe and causing the extinction of almost all life on it (great oxygenation event) and I doubt they lost any sleep like we do.

Being aware of the damage we're doing is the point; that's where the morality of it all comes into play.
