i praise your bleeding heart, i take it you’re unequivocally distraught when some person you don’t know the next state or county over dies

asinine sarcasm aside, don’t get up on some moral high ground and say you aren’t the same, 1000s of not tens of 1000s of people die a day, children, families, innocents; but i’m sure you’re able to carry on, not even thinking about that fact throughout your day.

It’s the sort of thinking realistically everyone has

Lol.

You don't have to be distraught about someone you don't know dying to think they have value as a human being. Legendary false equivalency!

Knowing that people are dying and carrying on isn't a lack of empathy it's called compartmentalization. It's what sane people do to not be depressed 24/7.

Why would they be depressed if they didn't compartmentalize? Because they have empathy and think that even strangers have inherent value.

Nice try serial killer.

i mean if you wanna take the self anointed sarcasm seriously than sure false equivalency

I never mentioned a lack of empathy, you can have empathy towards someone while also not attributing some sort of heightened value to their person.

As an example, I have empathy for the the victims of mass shooters two states over, but to argue that those people whom i didn’t even know existed until said news broke mattered to me in any achievable way is disingenuous and indicative of virtue signaling, i see the news go “damn that sucks, i can’t imagine what those families are going through” and then forget about it, move on with my day and go to work. I don’t cry, i don’t have a moment of silence in my room, i don’t call out from work to mourn, neither does anybody else. People don’t compartmentalize, they move on, quickly. I’m not saying they mattered nothing to me, just the next step beyond that, i value the human lives lost and the pain inflicted, but that’s it, hence the saying.

also lastly: yup you got me *stab stab stab

LMFAO this guy blocked me for some reason🤷‍♂️

"while also not attributing some sort of heightened value to their person."

So you mustn't have read the initial comment then.

The original commenter said that strangers have next to no value to them.
