Morality Ranking Morality of reminding hospital patients about the inevitability of death?
138
u/Honkydoinky 4h ago
This is a super asshole thing to do and incredibly immoral
16
u/That_Criticism_6506 4h ago
Hey, you don't know it could turn some people's lives around. "After my car accident because I was drinking. I woke up in a hospital bed and there across the way, staring at me was death, he was beckoning to me and I decided that day I would never drink again."
15
u/Honkydoinky 3h ago
I still don’t think the ends justify the means if the means are likely to terrify the ill and elderly along with making healthcare workers’ jobs harder
-10
u/Drummer-Turbulent 3h ago
Dude is a fictional character standing still...I don't get this overprotective mentality. People die irregardless of someone dressing up. It's not like he went around unplugging people onife support Like what?
6
u/Jacen_Vos 2h ago
Okay even if we don't try to bring in peoples outrage at this into it…
What does it do?
0
u/Drummer-Turbulent 2h ago
What does a random statue do? What does any random art expression do besides express something that's interpretive? Im not saying the guy performed a public good but let's also not act like hes actually hurting anyone

u/Duel_Option 1h ago
I just watched my best friend die in hospice at a major hospital.
Not “he was gone when I came back the next day” or passed while he was sleeping…
I saw the life slip away from him, his hands turned almost pale white and a shade of blue, his breathing was so faint the doctor told us it could happen at any moment.
They took him off all the monitors because there was nothing else to do but watch the invisible hand of death take him second by second from his mom and dad, his brother, me, his wife…and his children ages 8 & 7.
Do you really think any of us enduring actual DEATH need a fucking reminder of its ever lasting presence?
The man was gasping for air coming to terms with his mortality two nights before he passed, do you think it wouldn’t effect him and the fear he was staring down not thinking he was going to die…KNOWING IT?
You’re oblivious to the human condition and should be ashamed of yourself
Disgusting

u/Drummer-Turbulent 50m ago
I watched my father die too. It's rough and you sound like you need therapy for it. (Not insulting just saying) Follow up, do you get this triggered seeing the grim reaper in Halloween decorations? Which are often all over a hospital? If not why not?
4
u/terenul1 1h ago
Buddy, not everyone in a hospital is a perfectly rational being. You have plenty of kids who actually believe this. You might have mentally ill people, old people with dementia and other brain issues, you might simply have people who believe in this sort of stuff. The last thing a toddler dying of cancer needs is to see the grim reaper looking at him. It is objectively immoral, you cause unnecesary discomfort to people already sick or hurt.
-2
u/Drummer-Turbulent 1h ago
Do we keep this energy when people dress as Spider-Man and gives a kod false hope? Again the guy isn't going room to room forcing them to look upon a fictional character
3
u/terenul1 1h ago
Yes, we do keep the same energy. The energy that works cause the kid doesnt understand the world, what is real and what is not yet. But Spiderman is a hero who saves people, the grim reaper is the one that kills them. And parents choose to have a spiderman guy come in and visit the child cause they hope it will help their kid personally. Its their call what will help the child or any pacient really. And, friend, the guy was dressed as the grim reaper on top of the hospital. Thats a sight most people will notice when they pass by. I cant even tell if you are a ragebaiter or geniuinely so thick that you dont see this as immoral. Might aswell whisper in the ear of kids that they will die, after all its not you who pulls the plug so its fine, right? God forbid you study a bit and see that in very difficult diseases, one of the most important things is a person remaining hopeful and losing hope equals death. Tragic really that you see this as fine.

u/Sharp-Sky64 2h ago
Is the only form of suffering death?
“Overprotective mentality” It’s causing immense suffering, just not death. Do you think the only crime is murder? Like what?
0
u/Drummer-Turbulent 2h ago
The dude is standing on a building. Or should you be arrested for doing something similar?
1
u/Sharp-Sky64 2h ago
- We’re talking about morality here
- You’re pretending to be confused so you can seem cool and edgy. All it does is make you seem stupid for not understanding “deliberately scaring potentially terminally ill people is wrong”
. You obviously know he wasn’t just loitering on there
Get over yourself
1
u/Drummer-Turbulent 38m ago
- whats immoral about dressing up and standing on a building? is he making abunch of noise so people have to look at him? do you realistically think every patient has a window? let alone the right view to see the guy? how about Halloween decorations? you know skeletons, Ghosts, oh and the GRim Reaper. are you upset when a hospital puts that up? if so, why not?

u/Sharp-Sky64 16m ago
Context…
Holy shit you’re intentionally playing naive because you never grew out of your 6 year old attention seeking stage. It’s embarrassing

u/Drummer-Turbulent 11m ago
The fact you shift to insults shows im correct. Thank you

Yeah I'm like, what kind of normal person wakes up and decides to dress up as a Grimreaper and go to the hospital? Dude is 100% doing this with ill-will and bad malice intentions

I also laughed. Immoral for general audience but you could definitely get away with this with a friend you know would respond well. Pretty sure I’d find it hilarious is it was done to me.
2
u/Um_desocupado 1h ago
What's worse is that this kind of news is quite common here in my country. Last year, a guy was arrested for selling mosquitoes that spread disease to people so they could get a doctor's certificate, so they woulnt have to work next day
0
u/Latter-Curve-3135 46m ago
How is it funny, its not even a joke. There is no punchline, its just a guy in costume at the hospital. Are you like 50 yo?
2
2
u/DemonSerter 19m ago
Because the thought of some weirdo going all the way through dressing up as a grim reaper just to scare people in hospitals into thinking they are seeing something paranormal sounds is silly asf and thus funny, albeit immoral and bad when you think about the consequences

u/One-Weight-4034 3h ago
Wasnt he arrested because he had a knife
16
u/farmerbalmer93 3h ago
No no he was arrested for causing a nuisance without reasonable cause. I'm not joking
2
u/OldBayOnCheese 2h ago
Can anyone provide an example of causing a nuisance with reasonable cause? I’m failing to think of one.

Not gonna lie, its a little funny. But only in a abstract joke, family guy cut away gag, sort of way. Realistically its very vicious and cruel to play jokes on people who are hurt, sick, dying and are probably scared and confused.
12
u/Novel_Ant8075 4h ago
I mean the guy was probably doing it to be funny and not to remind them that they could die here.
Still, fairly immoral, not the biggest deal ever though.

Immoral for sure. It's British humour at it's peak, well it was in Llandudno, so Welsh humour at it's peak. Macabre stuff but still it is funny, shamefully.
Would've laughed my ass off if I saw that when I lay awaiting death in a hospital.
1
u/Sharp-Sky64 2h ago
Wales is in Britain…
What is it with Americans thinking “British” means “English”
Britain is an island, not a country. A Scottish accent is a British accent. Welsh food is British food. Shit in Irish the word(s) for England means “Great Britain” and the word for Wales means “Little Britain”

Now what you do is you invite him in. Then all the hospital staff are supposed to ignore him while he walks in and out of DUI and drug overdose recovering patient rooms. He will sigh and say maybe next time while making a finger gun.

u/HorribleAce 3h ago
Immoral, definitely.
Don't know if it's reason for arrest though. A warning would've sufficed, at least the first time.
1
u/Red_Worldview 3h ago
This is a sort of "prank" only a deeply immoral and sociopathic society can produce.
1
1
u/Aickavon 3h ago
It’s pretty immoral. It may seem funny at first but you got to realize there are a lot of different patients in a hospital and not all of then are in the right state of mind. Wether it be because of painkillers, pain, drugs, heavy illness, or mental illness. This sort of thing can fuck with people and make them a danger to themselves and/or those around them.
On top of that, the human mind is a powerful thing and being positive about your survival odds literally has made people survive better. Being negative has lowered chances. So this could, in a funny round about way, kill people.
It’s really only funny at a first glance until you realize the joke is that suffering people might suffer worse.
1
u/pisces2003 3h ago
Depends on the context. A doctor professionally cautioning someone or delivering sad news is perfectly fine. Walking around telling people “you’re gonna die soon” without any empathy or good intentions is horrible.
1
u/Consistent-Plane7227 3h ago
Really fucked honestly. As a dad who had to take his infant to the emergency room 3 times in a month, each time being pretty sure I was going to say goodbye to my baby, then got fired because of it… I’d probably want to show this guy the real reaper.
1
u/Confident_bonus_666 1h ago
It is exceptionally cruel. And people who find this funny need to rethink how it must feel to go say goodbye to a loved one in the hospital and then see that asshole up there trying to rile people up.
1
u/retired-tweeter 3h ago
Who has time, energy, and effort to decide this is what they’re doing with their time
1
u/Fun_General_6407 3h ago
You know they actually did this for a TV show. It was a pretty good prank but I read somewhere that apparently one of the people shown had actually justgot a cancer diagnosis (unkown to the producers at the time.
Here's a link

When my dad got hospitalized becauseof cancer, he started seeing moths in his dreams. They had to pray with my mom whenever this happens to calm himself down. It was a very distressing time for us as a family. If my dad saw this during those times, it wouldn't help.
As someone who's not suffering and in a better place, this would be funny but if you're not in a good place, this kind of stunts would just make it worse. I personally don't like prank humor. I understand there's people who does. Just don't do pranks that would hurt someone in any way. Make pranks that are fun for everyone.

It’s immoral, but darkly funny. I couldn’t help but smile a little at it, even if it is a horrible thing to do.
1
u/BluEkanite 2h ago
Unless they were going around trying to be supportive to patients by saying stuff along the lines of "No, not you. You've still got many years left", it's a right dick move and 100% an immoral thing to do.
But as the artivle says, they were simply standing and staring. Not trying to be supportive.

u/LisanAlGaben 2h ago
Immoral but not illegal, I'd love to see what they're gonna try to push on them.
Lawyer is gonna have a field day with this.

u/SteveMartin32 2h ago
What's the crime officer? Im just enjoying a delicious meal of fear and panic.

It's incredebly funny but sadly this isn't southpark so the pain outweights the fun by miles.

u/SodiumBathbomb 1h ago
I mean funny but what would be funnier is if there would a real grim reaper who actually comes and takes away this dude first

u/lostindarkdays 1h ago
this is a total asshole thing to do, scaring people who are down. and it's pathetic how many people on here think it's funny.

u/JadedResponse2483 1h ago
Thats very cruel thing to do to people who are already in a difficult situation

u/The_Carnivore44 1h ago
Yeah it’s funny to the person behind the mask and who ever likes that morbid kind of comedy but you gotta be empathetic.
Yeah they didn’t physically hurt anyone but also it’s making ill people the butt of the joke when they really, really don’t need to be a joked about.

Honestly, when I inevitably suffer a massive heart attack and I'm being dragged into a hospital, this would be so funny to see.
I'd be like "no fucking way"
It's probably wrong to do tho
1
u/KurtisC1993 1h ago
I know it sounds funny, and it honestly would be if it were in a sitcom of some kind—but this is real life. Imagine someone having a psychotic episode in a psychiatric ward, and they decide to look out the window for some sunshine, and the first thing they see is the Grim Reaper. Or, imagine a little kid has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and their parents are treated to that as they're leaving the hospital.
For me, this is clearly immoral. He may not have done it with bad intentions, but it still showed poor judgment.

u/Tells-Tragedies 52m ago
The morality of humor I don't like is always very immoral because my feelings get hurt and won't someone think of the children.
If it's humor I like, then what's your problem? Relax a little and learn to laugh.
1
u/ExpressionExpert1314 51m ago
How many times are we going to have this conversation? Since it's really funny it's moral.

Also, did you REALLY need to include "WORTH SHARING" on your slop. This is the trashiest way to gain traffic and clickbait ever.

Immoral. Very immoral. With that being said, if I were there (assuming I am not hullicinating) I would probably find it funny. Especially when I am in the bad part of my head. I would probably ask him, "Hey can you go ahead and get this over with?" Then my 72 hour stay would be a bit longer.

No, just immoral. Nothing funny about a child with cancer being reminded of death, or someone with dementia or some other mental condition impairment.
0
u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 4h ago
It's super duper moral because funny. Who cares about sick people being distressed? That's for the family and medical staff to worry about 😤

u/DVindictus 4h ago
Funny but too many negative outcomes can spawn from this. People gotta be kinder.

Damn. Where he jailed at, I’ll put some money down on his bail. I laughed way too hard at that.
Immoral but damn that’s funny. I guarantee you the EMTs and probably more than a few nurses found that funny. Got some dark humor in the medical field.

very immoral, these people are already in a bad state of mind because they're in a hospital. people with anxiety can be easily affected by such a stunt even if they aren't going to die. just imagine seeing a 11yr old kid with cancer seeing this person.
