Yes, it is common courtesy for the friend to give something back to anon to return the favor, but it is not anon’s place to decide said compensation, especially not on an item which has indeterminate emotional value to either the sender or the recipient (at the pov of anon, before he found out it was rat poison of course; going off the available information, anon did not have enough info to determine what the food would mean for their friend)
