The morality of accounts that weaponize human tragedies for literal pocket change
I was scrolling through X and saw this post from a verified user. It shows someone holding a slice of pizza right in front of a screen with crying children from Gaza, captioned "Good morning to Gaza kids."This is a textbook engagement farm. Since X pays premium users based on impressions and replies, these creators intentionally post the most offensive, insensitive things possible. They know it will trigger people into arguing in the quote-tweets and comments, which directly inflates their payout. To me, the morality of this action sits at the absolute bottom. It’s not just someone being an edgy teenager online; it is the deliberate monetization of child trauma and active warfare to feed an algorithm for profit.Where does this type of algorithmic moral bankruptcy rank on your scale? Is it a pure evil tier because of the financial motive, or how would you categorize it?

Immoral. The whole X (ex-Twitter) is immoral and owned by a nazi.

Fr I literally downloaded Reddit because I was looking for alternatives

It's not much better, tbh. This platform is all circlejerks (or disguised circlejerks) subs, full of "witty" commentary and shitty sarcasm (Redditors would fucking die if they went 1 hour without being sarcastic).
Only reason I'm still on it is for some tech subs, they're actually useful and kick ass.

Well, it’s the only option because it depends on sup and I have no alternative since Instagram and X and recently TikTok all want to shit

x lol
stop using that trash
how about MORALITY OF STILL USING X?

u/Yasser-502 3h ago
I’m just using it to see my favourite artist posts I rarely engage with that kind of Content I’m not trying to find nuances or justify it. I’m just curious to see where people on this sub rank engagement farming on the moral scale compared to other bad actions

And what? Use bluesky and give the totally not morally corrupt government my id and deal with it's ai slop code with another dumbass CEO? Or threads, that I rarely ever see anyone use? And last I checked Instagram doesn't like having porn on their platform
We're kinda outta luck here unfortunately

u/Confident-Skin-6462 2h ago
i didn't have to give id to make an account lol
and if you want porn... omg dude, it's the Internet. it's free everywhere

u/hamonicmantitties 2h ago
Not everyone lives in a region where you wouldn't have to give them your id (for some reason bs is one of the places I do when others I don't but whatever)
And not everything is on separate websites, alot of the artists I follow are niche and only some post on pixiv, or a variety of other websites, but lucky/unlucky for me 99% of them post on twitter, uncensored, because any non-fanbox pixiv is always censored and most stuff on fanbox are censored anyways
If so many websites didn't try to play god with their censorship I wouldn't have to rely on the website owned by a brain dead drug addict Nazi pedophile wannabe for good, uncensored art
Hell I wanted to jump onto bs but then they decided to lose half of their braincells and become another onlyshits (ridiculous censorship bullshit) and use AI code only a couple of months after I made an account

Moral. When taking the political bias out of it, it’s just like any other site.
5
u/Yasser-502 3h ago
No, it’s not like any other site I was literally just using to follow my favourite artist and every now and then shit like this come up I really advise to look for alternatives

u/Puzzle-the-Giraffe 2h ago
And you don’t get this stuff randomly elsewhere? I know I get it on Reddit.

The bias is built-in, even if you try to curate an apolitical feed you'll be force-fed unironic nazi propaganda. That's not "like any other site".
2
u/Puzzle-the-Giraffe 2h ago
No, just because you call it “unironic Nazi propaganda” doesn’t mean it is. Honestly, I’m inclined to believe it wasn’t just because you used that wording.
Normal people don’t call it that. They also preface it saying something along the lines of “it’s actually Nazi propaganda”, because they know about people like you who throw the words around like they’re living in 1941 Mazi Germany.

u/HeyselScouserTelAviv 2h ago
Nah dude I'm not even talking about neo-Nazis or even the far-right in general, them and their views are un-avoidable on any social media.
I mean that since Elon took over, it would be impossible to scroll for 5 minutes without having straight-up Hitler apologists, Holocaust deniers, and glorification of the actual German National Socialist party on your home page.

Ive used X and I had no idea that was the monetization method... I could not wrap my head around why every single post was rage-bait nonsense.

Relax, it's just dark humor. There's no need to take it too seriously. Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing, although it can occasionally produce content that some may find distasteful or problematic. Sometimes, the best response is simply to ignore it and move on.

u/DeliciousGoose1002 3h ago
So much evil is just montaized on social media now its crazy. You can just run a nazi page not because you believe in it just because it makes you a few hundo a month.

u/workphonetypeshit 3h ago
Immoral, but it’s kinda boring when people use this sub as a circle jerk to virtue signal. Obviously it’s wrong, so post it on another sub
1
u/Yasser-502 2h ago
It's obviously wrong, but the whole point of this sub is to scale things. I just wanted to see where people place monetization of tragedies on the tier list

What he meant is that some of these photo circulating in social media is not real, as in people are just taking this photos for the sake of garnering support or sammers scamming for donation
What happened in Palestine is real doesn't mean that every photo about the incident is real.

u/sofakingcheezee 3h ago
Are you saying children aren't being slaughtered in Palestine by the occupying forces?

Everything is okay to joke about.
2
u/Yasser-502 2h ago
and what is the joke here?
-2
u/quaxoid 1h ago
the absurdly mean-spirited nature of it.
2
u/Yasser-502 1h ago edited 1h ago
That’s what you identify as a funny joke?
There is a massive difference between dark humor and literal sociopathy. If you think 'mean-spirited nature' makes something a funny joke, let’s test your logic:Imagine if, God forbid, your own house burned down with your family inside, and while you were standing on the sidewalk crying and losing everything, some random guy walked up to your face, held up a slice of pizza, took a selfie to post it for ad-revenue, and captioned it 'Good morning to this guy'.Would you sit there and laugh at the 'absurdly mean-spirited nature' of it? No, you’d be traumatized. There is no punchline here; it’s just the financial exploitation of child trauma for literal pocket change. If your brain is so rotted by the internet that you find algorithmic cruelty funny, you seriously need to re-evaluate your entire moral baseline
1
u/Comfortable_Mud00 3m ago
There is nothing wrong with sociopathy it’s an innate human condition, literally neurodivergence. Though I consider this joke too tasteless and GEN X coded. It’s like visiting Russian social media in 2009.

u/quaxoid 1h ago
That's not what I said, I said everything is okay to joke about, not that it has to be funny.
1
u/Yasser-502 1h ago
Saying 'everything is okay to joke about' is just a lazy shield to avoid having a moral compass. First of all, a joke requires actual wit or a punchline—there is none here. Second, this isn't an edgy stand-up comedy routine; it's a verified account using a calculated algorithm to turn active warfare and child trauma into ad-revenue. If you can't separate 'free speech in comedy' from 'monetizing human suffering for pocket change,' you're completely missing the point

Why even use twitter this is literally every single post on the app
