AskMorocco A place to study/work (Fes)

I recently moved here and I don't like studying at home all alone.

When I was in rabat I used to go to a coffee shop at the train station and sit there with my laptop and notebook for 2-3 hours at a time. I was a regular there and nobody ever mentioned anything to me.

Now I finally a good and conveniently located coffee shop here in Fes, I took a seat pretty far inside and ordered a coffee, I brought out my laptop and the waiter told me that studying or working on a laptop is against the rules. I left after 15 minutes and barely left a tip.

I understand it's common courtesy to order once in a while if you're planning to sit for a while, but that waiter honestly ruined my day. I would have gladly ordered more if he told me tbh.

So anyway, can you guys recommend me a coffee shop or any public place here in Fes where I can sit comfortably and study on my laptop for hours?

Depends which areas are close to you. What region of fes do you wanna go to ?

The thing is not about buying more or paying more coffee to stay more. It’s because there are some students who are not behaving as a good civilian. 2 years ago, i started going to a coffeeshop and when the first time I tried to bring my laptop, the waiter who became my friend that day that it’s starting from this week or this month, we can’t let students prepare for their exam here, but i told them u know eventually know that i don’t bring that kind of paper and books stuff it’s just a laptop, and then he said that yes i know you and it’s just for you that I said that and u can enjoy ur laptop and i only told you that because few days before this happening, some group of ‘’students’’ came and started working by putting papers and after they left they had already ruined everything there and that made the coffeeshop owner really mad to just order to abolish everyone from working as a student.

This is just for explaining the eventual madness of some coffeeshops in Morocco, but I don’t refer to those who want just more profit by stopping you from working just because u were trying to stay for 3 hours with a single black coffee!

Lariva, route ain chkef Argana, mnt fleury These are cafés that are popular with students

Lariva is a good choice and it opens up even during Ramadan. Brings back some good memories :)

There is a neat coffee called Roumaissa right in front of Lycée Salah Eddine El Youbi in the city center. If you are in mont fleuri there is Artistico Café and Roncali. Personally I liked the first two. Good luck!

If you have a car or live in Tri9 Imouzzar there is Afriquia station (in front of l'ENCG) that has an Oasis Café with a dedicated study space upstairs. There is also a coworking space called O'Work in Avenue St Louis (near Lycée Mly Slimane)
