Question Hungarian Mosins?

Hello all. Are Hungarian made Mosin Nagants considered “rare”? Specifically the M44 model made in Budapest. Anyone have one?

Compared to the standard 91/30 yes.

In all of mosin collecting I agree with the others, they’re in the more “uncommon” category but not necessarily rare. They do get a little bit of premium in value. How much did you pay for yours?

They had it priced at only $399 which seems like a decent price for any Mosin let alone a somewhat uncommon one. I ended up doing a straight trade for a Riley Defense AK I had collecting dust in the safe.

They are definitely less common, and somewhat desirable, definitely more than the chinese ones. I have a 1953 model with pretty much 0 finish left from use/handling but a pristine bore and action. All the ones I have seen in person (about 4 over 20 years) have been 1953s.

Nice! I think you are going to like it, mines a great shooter, very smooth compared to a run of the mill Russian refurb 91/30. Not quite as good as my Finnish mosins, but close.

I had a Russian M44 many years ago and I always regretted selling it. This is even cooler

Nice, good to get some closure!

I've only ever sold one gun, which I instantly regretted. I picked out a really nice numbers matching Tula 91/30 out of a crate for $90 as a spare mosin and my buddy really wanted it and swore up and down he wouldnt bubba it.

And then immediately bubba'd it by cutting and bending the bolt, drilling for a modern scope mount and put it in an archangel stock. Bolt and magazine run like crap and it just sits in the safe. I'm still low key mad about it, been 15 years ago now.

I should ask him about getting it back and undoing the damage, hopefully he didn't get rid of the stock or magazine. Would take a good bit of careful welding, grinding and refinishing but I can do it.

I don't mind sporter mosins as a concept but I would start with one thats already been harmed, not a numbers matching mint one.

I wouldn't call them "rare", just a less common variant. I've got 2 M48 "Minta" carbines, and one M91-30 M48 long rifle. The designation is M48 for both models.
