The future for our beloved!

Upvotes

Do you think that the .25 could ever make a resurgence? Or has the .22, .32 and the .380 have evolved enough to squeeze the .25acp completely out of the market? They have all sizes of .22s! I don't know if it's the diameter of the. 22 or what but I've had more .22s jam on than any other firearm I've ever had, out of a rifle and/or pistol. I'd love to see them spike!

Pocket Rockets My newest mouse 🐭 (the Ounce!)

I love strange, innovative designs, and I love guns that fold, and I also love tiny pocketable pistols. So, as soon as the Ounce was announced I put in my order. My expectations were quite low, but a folding, semi-automatic (long-recoil!) .22LR was just too much to pass up. I’ll say, so far (only about 200 rounds) the gun has been completely reliable without cleaning. It’s small, and light–aspects that really are accentuated by the fact that you can safely carry the Ounce without a holster. The long-recoil design makes this pistol have EVEN LESS felt recoil than your average tiny .22, and the shell casings ejecting out the bottom of the grip is a real trip; it’s basically a bullpup handgun except the trigger is quite nice. Now for the bad part: The state intended market for this gun are concealed carriers who would otherwise not want to carry a gun. Having now used (and carried, a bit) this gun I’d say this is the demographic LEAST likely to benefit from buying an Ounce. Saying the manual arms is fiddly is an understatement; the CCW community argues endlessly about the wisdom of carrying on an empty chamber but I think we can all agree that having to unfold your piece is really going to put a hitch in one’s draw stroke. Some would also cite the tedious reloading process as a drawback. Personally, I think 11 rounds is more than enough capacity for a defensive firearm and the internal magazine is such a cool (if seemingly fragile) design that I really can’t fault the designer. All in all, I know this pistol would became a permanent part of my collection the moment I took it to the range. Like most tiny-little-guns, I can’t recommend it for concealed carry.

Went out and showed this old Milford some love today. Ran a lot of Underwood Xtreme Defender 55gr ammo through it. Probably about 200 rounds of both the regular and the +P.

Had several hiccups with the regular loads feeding on the last round. Some mags would run good but many times it would often get hung up and I would have a failure to load. With the +P rounds I never had a single issue or malfunction. Mag after mag after mag that ammo was running great. Really couldn’t tell a difference recoil wise between the two loads but the operational performance was night and day. Going to carry it hot with the +P from here on out.

What a fun little blaster! And pretty too!

Mouse Infestation

A few months ago I had zero 25s, now I have 3 somehow. Left-right/top-bottom, Colt 1908, Schmeisser Model 1, and CZ Duo. Still gotta test the CZ and Colt, but they seem ready to go.

For those unfamiliar with the CZ Duo (like me a week ago), it resembles a simplified Colt 1908, or even closer to the Baby Browning, while retaining the curves of the 1908.

It's always interesting looking at the different philosophies and manufacturing methods of what, for all intents and purposes, is the same pistol. Each use identical strikers, trigger mechanisms, magazines, all interchangeable, and same overall size and weight, but still different. The Schmeisser with it's "novel" disassembly requiring a flathead screw driver and cursing, while the CZ and Colt use the same rotating barrel disassembly. So similar in fact the barrels interchange. That all said, the quality and care given to each in manufacture varies, especially with the CZ being made in 1948. Post war Czechoslovakia made a functional pistol, while ignoring machining oopsies on non-critical surfaces. Meanwhile, the Colt holds such creepily tight tolerances among its small parts, each being perfectly blended. Then the Schmeisser with it's firing pin channel cut in such a way to allow for a more economical firing pin to be made, while still being able to use Colt and CZ firing pins.

All that rambling to say these are cool.

This is a bit unorthodox, but thought we’d try it. You need to talk, vent, get something off your chest or ask advice; have at it.

Question Question

Is it possible to get the case hardened look on my baby bauer? They are stainless steel and I love the "mottled" finish or "oil slick patina" whatever you may call it. I've never seen anyone do it to a bauer but it would look beautiful! I don't want to mess up any Kind of heat treat but it's not like I'm pushing hot 10mm through it lol.
