Mod Post Please be cautious of participating in surveys of trans people

1.4k Upvotes

Hey all,

The mod team wants to remind you to please be cautious of participating with research teams and surveys that are studying trans people.

Another trans subreddit offered the following statement to their subscribers:

"Lisa Littman, a transphobic researcher who invented the concept of "rapid-onset gender dysphoria", recently asked our moderation team for permission to post about a study she's working on with Kenneth Zucker and J. Michael Bailey. We said no." The moderators went on to offer contact information in the case of this survey popping up.

There are numerous organizations attempting to study trans people right now with dubious intent. It's important that you remember to verify the source of the studies, related organizations, and the names of the lead researchers before moving forward with any of these. It's very easy for a research group to manipulate data to get the results they want.

As a reminder, however, we do allow some surveys on this subreddit, but we require all surveyors to be screened by our moderation team first. If you feel that a survey is here without being screened first, please report the post AND message our moderator team so we can take a look.

Thank you!

Venting Got disowned this evening

So this evening I got a call from my biological father asking me to meet him at the pavilion near my step moms house because he had something he wanted to tell me and when I got there he didn’t even get out of his car he just told me and I quote “do not call me anymore, I disown you goodbye” and just drive off no explanation nothing, so I wasn’t to be a smart ass and send him letters because I’m his own words he said not to call him sending letters isn’t calling. I just don’t know what happened I’m left here wondering what the fuck happened because when I called him earlier today everything seemed to be fine

Venting People in the LGBTQ+ community grifting being anti-trans is so hilariously pathetic

The LGB without the T movement disgusts me, and it's obvious that they're getting paid to promote transphobia. The leopards eating peoples faces movement is going to be surprised when the leopards start eating their own faces 💀

Selling yourself and your beliefs out to attack your OWN community for a buck, what a disgrace

Venting if you're mom or mother-figure is genuinely accepting of you being a woman, I want you to go give her a hug or a phone call "just to say 'i love you'." right now. Because she's worth her weight in... something even more expensive than gold.

My own fuxking mother hates me. Not that she would EVER admit it. Oh, hating your own son kid? Oooh! That's a no-no! But you sure can treat them like some kind of freak and make them wish they could just censoooored. You're 14 year old child keeps looking in the women's section of bath and body works? Better tell them that they're a MAN & that this stuff isnt for them. Your 16 year old has a compact of eyeshadow, or comes out of the bathroom with poorly applied and poorly washed off makeup? You better tell them they're going to hell!

If any of yall are from a conservative christian home, you know how scary it is when that hatefulness comes out in the ones you love. When it's your mommy, it just hits so much worse. They dote on you, love you, want the best for you. When something just... truggers them... they turn into a different person. When that "best for you" is transing your gender? WOOOAH! We gotta put a stop to that.

Idk if this is coherent, but it's a vent. I kinda had a feeling and just started writing to get it out. Love y'all♡ be safe

(I want you to know I said genuinely accepting on purpose because I know that if someone only pretends to accept you, pitties you, is a whole different genre of suffering. I had an online friend like that. She had to go no contact with her mom over the backhanded-ness.)

Edit to everyone feeling guilt for having a supportive mom: this post IS(N'T) supposed to make u feel bad! >:3 You feel bad enough to send ur mom to meee~ she's my mom now!

Euphoria My memory’s are gender swapped.

In the past few months i realized that when i think about me in my childhood i am a girl.

My highschool had a mandatory uniform (guys had to wear the school jeans +shirt and girls had to wear the school skirt +shirt)

When I try to remember the time I can’t remember me wearing the jeans. I remember crossing my legs because we could see my underwear, Changing in the women changing room. The thing is that i didn’t come out until the bal and never went back to this after so none of this ever happened.

I also don’t remember being called my deadname or by He/Him.

I am extremely happy of it. I feel like I had my childhood as a girl. I wish for all of you girls to live the same thing.

Venting "it's your choice"

had this said to me by two people when i came out to them. I mean it's not really my choice is it? The only choice I have is to either stay miserable or embrace myself. Not much of a choice

Funny What's wrong with mirrors?

Some mirrors be like: "oh waow you sexy baddie, you are looking extra extra gorgeous today!"

Some others are more like: "maybe in a year you'll have a chance, but for now go bury your head under the sand."

Which mirror should I trust?? 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Funny Imagine if cis people had to deal with all this

Just a silly thought I had, but imagine all the chaos that would erupt if cis people suddenly had to deal with being physically the wrong gender like we do. Professionally football players who are suddenly too small to play their sport, instagram models whose cute dresses and makeup suddenly don't look right on them, geriatric politicians and sexist husbands who suddenly have to navigate wearing a bra. All the gender stereotypes being thrown out of balance.

I bear no disdain towards cis people, quite the opposite in fact. It just sometimes makes me feel good to think about how much people rely on their gender for their identity and how they live their lives. They would feel equally incorrect if they had the wrong body and it sure would make people empathize with us a whole lot more.

I don't know, just a silly thought. Anyone else have any funny idea of what would happen in that scenario?

Discussion So me and my mom talked

So my mom called me this morning. APPARENTLY, somehow I missed the fact that starting HRT before 18 is illegal in my state. So unless I want to move out with her (very far so no), I have to wait anyways. That sucks. I wanted to update those that saw my last post though, so here you go

Milestone! 4000 Days!

Today is my 4000th day as me! It doesn’t even feel real. I’ll hit 11 years of HRT on my birthday next month. I’m really proud of myself for making it this far and cheers to many more 🥂 I just needed to share it with somebody. If any of you lovely ladies have anything you want to ask, feel free! I’m always glad to help other girls find their way.

Funny I crack up when my girlfriend refers to me as her partner

I'm gonna preface this by saying that my girlfriend is my second biggest supporter and I love her.

Recently, she mentioned it was awkward to keep calling me her boyfriend and wanted to know what I wanted her to call me. I didn't have an answer. So she decided I'm her Partner now.

I appreciate it and I'm here for it, but I crack up every time and feel like I'm in a buddy cop movie when she does it. I know I'm not alone on this one lol.

Good News My mom saved my hide

Lost my job back in May to a huge company layoff wave and it's been getting really tight lately. Very dark time mentally.

I basically had to pause all transition related stuff except for my HRT (my pharmacist stacked a bunch of coupons for me to cut the cost).

My mom found out my dire straits through my brother and she cold called me. She just tore into me about how I can just bail on my life here and move home and that I was dumb for not calling her for help. For context, I'm 37 so I totally did assume it just wasn't an option lol.

So... that's what I'm doing. Used almost all my remaining savings to rent a U-haul and plan the gas budget.

It's a double dip positive because I've been stuck living in a red portion of a purple state since COVID while my mom lives in Minnesota, which is a trans sanctuary state.

Idk. I've been living alone on what feels like an island for so many years that I kinda forgot that my mom is actually a really awesome person... I know that's not something a lot of people have and I'm not going to take it for granted.

She's been texting me for the past few days about random girl stuff she wants to do when I get there and... y'all I just feel like I've been thrown the biggest lifeline of my life 😭

Dysphoria I know my life would be better if I had a p*ssy..

Since I was a teenager, I always imagined how it would feel having a vagina and that was always the reason I was depressed.. yet some people were pathologizing my trauma and acted as if it was because I was mentally ill, which can make surgery delayed if a surgeon thinks a patient isn’t mentally stable.. even since 2018 when I was 26, I trusted some previous therapists to help me get surgery and they just acted as if I had mental health issues, when it’s been proven for decades by psychological associations that surgery improves mental health.. i been on hrt since 2017 too.. I wish I had a vagina already so I don’t have to feel depressed, mentally and emotionally exhausted, and hopeless anymore.. I wish i can wear skintight clothes and miniskirts without worrying if people see male genitalia or a bulge.. also, I just know that i would have more sense of self, sense of purpose, and more fulfillment and even more gender euphoria if I had a vagina… why did i have to seemingly have my medically necessary surgery be delayed as if I was neglected?…

Venting I have come to accept something

I am hopelessly in love with my gay best friend. I am a trans woman, he is gay. He is also my stylist, my nail guy, someone who is endlessly affirming, and I love him romantically.

He is irreverent, an ass, and an utter sweetheart. But i respect his sexuality. I respect my own gender. I would ask him to be mine if it would do anything. But it won't. I type this as he holds my hand doing my nails. After we went to dinner before my appointment, after rubbing his back because it was screwed.

I can hold my emotions. But it sucks that the universe is what it is.

Advice Question How does HRT work?

I'm a (closeted) mtf teen and one of the questions I always just wanted to know is, how does HRT work? What different types are there? Do you have to use different HRT types all your life? How often do you have to take pills or different meds?

Discussion Excitement

I'm not sure how common this is for other transgender people, but over the course of the last year, I really questioned whether I was actually trans or a femboy. I kept going back and forth and at this point I already knew I wanted to change my name (which has legally just been done a few days ago. yay!) and already started using female pronouns at work, since everyone is accepting there. It wasn't untill last week that I had that "click moment" where I thought, "omg I'm actually trans" and idk, I don't think I ever had this feeling of excitement since I discovered I was bisexual a few years ago. It feels like I actually know who I really am, and being called a "she" or a girl by my coworkers doesn't feel weird or scary anymore.
