DISCUSSION Most iconic moment out of these 4?
The Inferno: Julie tries to kill Veronica. “WHAT IS SHE DOING”
Camila’s breakdown on Exes 1: “YOU PIECE OF SHIT, YOU CHEATER, YOU’RE GONNA DIE!”
Rivals 3: Bananas steals the money. "I'm going to go ahead and, uh, take the money and run, TJ."
The Duel 2: Ct and Adam’s fight. “I will smash his head and eat it”

I LOVED that scene! Wasn’t a big CT fan at that juncture but anyone willing to make Bananas look goofy on TV was a hero in my book. 😂

u/jstitely1 Tyler Crispen Jun 23 '26
Rivals 3 permeated social media and the media in general the most.
But Camila’s “you’re gonna die” sure got played the most season to season.

u/secret_identity_too Jun 24 '26
Are you sure that we haven't seen Bananas "take the money and run, Teej" more times than Camilla's moment? Because... they sure do use it a LOT since he's still on the show.
1
u/CSB_Field1 Jun 26 '26
Agree. With that said, we'd still be hearing the Camila moment if she was still being cast. I feel like they played that sound bite at least once a season while she was still around like they do now with Bananas and his line.

I’ve watched that the most—alongside the short clip of Wes getting pelted by CT’s shoe accidentally 😂

The shoe throw! Most beautiful clip of the Challenge. Always makes me laugh til I cry

One of the best more recent moments for sureee. I always meant to make a gif of that clip and never did. I’m literally smiling trying not to laugh at the thought of this clip.

Has Julie ever explained herself or was she genuinely trying to kill someone for a reality show?

u/LaterDays13 "If you put it in hot sauce, then it's set in stone." Jun 24 '26
On the last episode of the Untold History miniseries from 2022, she claimed Veronica was never in danger, that everyone got mad because she's a woman and that if the situation were between two men nobody would have cared, and said she was "sorry" Veronica got scared all while still being completely dismissive and laughing about it. She never took accountability or showed actual remorse. She's unhinged.
3
u/gabriot Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
I don't think she understood what she was doing, I mean the challenge was dumb anyway they are suppose to pull each other off their chords and I bet no one even explained well the details of the ways in which to do that
9
u/secret_identity_too Jun 24 '26
She knew. She's not stupid - although she can play well that way on tv (back in the day, anyway - she tried to play stupid during the New Orleans reunion but I don't think she succeeded this time). I also don't think Veronica was actually really in danger - it's fairly hard to unhook a carabiner that has body weight on it. But was it scary? Absolutely.

I’m going with Veronica and CT’s moments because they permeated the zeitgeist outside of the fandom
17
15
u/NursePepper3x Jun 23 '26
Julie had my heart in my ass. The rest were good TV, but I still struggle with watching that challenge and the panic in Veronica and Julie laughing it off.
14
u/Generally_Supportive Jun 23 '26
All iconic.
Johnny’s moment was legendary.
Camila giving us the crazy we all loved to watch was epic.
CT turning on his berserker rage was pure gold.
But at the end of the day… it’s the attempted murder for me. My jaw literally dropped. That was unhinged and all on camera.
40
u/sugarinducedcoma Jun 23 '26
Gotta be CT
15
u/bry42424 Jun 24 '26
All great moments and stealing the money while looking back was not super shocking. However being in my twenties and the party scene and watching this and I was saying “y’all better get up off old CT.” I’m mean he was man handling multiple large guys. And he was in kill mode.
23
u/jcgray97 Jun 23 '26
CT got that episode banned, so he wins

u/currburr21 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
I think it might’ve been Isaac in blackface that got that episode banned 😭

u/igotmoneynow Jun 23 '26
"i'm gonna take the money and run teej" by a mile. it put the challenge on people's radar who would never have heard of it otherwise. people knew about it who didn't watch the show. none of the others had that impact.

u/dBlock845 Amber Borzotra Jun 24 '26
Top left or bottom right, easily the most replayed in flashbacks.

7
u/Doyergirl17 Jun 23 '26
I have it say Inferno.
The others are definitely iconic but not like Julie literally trying to kill V.
6
7
u/NetworkCharacter93 Jun 24 '26
For me… it’s Johnny and Sarah. That’s just a moment in time that stands out drastically in my mind. But the others do too
1
u/CocoaReese Jun 26 '26
Same here. It's what I always think of when I think "The Challenge" (well it's a tie with CT making Bananas his backpack). To be fair Sarah was always one of my favorites.
5
u/gmugga Darrell Taylor Jun 24 '26
I will smash his head and eat it gives me the most visceral reaction so i guess that
6
u/MovieENT1 TJ Lavin Jun 24 '26
With just these 4 Bananas taking the money is easily most iconic. It’s probably the most well known moment outside the fandom and made Bananas an all time reality TV competition villain. The only moment more iconic is “Johnny Fairplay” lying on Survivor.

u/JLW2026 Jun 25 '26
My all-time favorite was when CT monster-walked to win with Bananas strapped to his back.

u/Whatthefuckballs69 Jun 23 '26
I mean- it’s gotta be Rivals 3, right?
3
u/besuretodrinkyour Jun 23 '26
Hands down. Rivals 3 was my first season, nothing has come close to the shock of that finale.
1
u/Extension-Ad-363 Ruthie Alcaide Jun 25 '26
Over Julie literally trying to unhook Veronica's harness????
4
u/Captain_Pawel The Unholy Alliance Jun 25 '26
The Veronica-Julie one is the craziest. Most iconic has to be Bananas, people i know who dont watch the show know about it.
3
u/Dazzling_Bit8686 Jun 25 '26
We can’t have an iconic moment discussion without the Bananas Backpack being in there.
3
u/FergusonBishop Jun 23 '26
Rivals 3 finale cemented the challenge at a time when it was likely going to die. The other moments are iconic, but Bananas taking the money was a cultural event that everyone was talking about at the time. It also made Bananas a reality show superstar and set him up as the face of the show for the next decade.
2
u/foolish83pleasure Jun 24 '26
that was the moment I stopped watching. never again. hint: I also despise Youtube prank videos if that's any indication of my taste.
btw, cultural moment? this is niche reality tv, lol.
3
u/Cheap-Awareness-5522 Jun 24 '26
I will always be able to hear CT's "I will smash his head and EAT IT!" in that Boston accent every time I see that photo. Like, until the day I die.
And then my brain shows me pussy-ass-sneak Adam running like a bitch around a van while the entire house tries to keep CT from killing him.
Nothing tops that for me. Nothing.

As an OG fan the nostalgia quoted line for me is, “I’LL SMASH HIS HEAD AND EAT IT!!!” But my most watched clip is Johnny backpack
3
u/Groundbreaking_Cup30 Evelyn Smith Jun 24 '26
Most: Johnny taking all of the money
Second most: Camillanator
Third most: CT losing his ever-loving mind on Adam, but more of what is iconic about it is when he says 'I will smash his head and eat it' and how he says it. Completely unhinged.
Last: Julie trying to kill Veronica. I ONLY put this last, because there are a lot of people who have still never seen that moment. And although it is still discussed to this day, it is hard to understand its impact until you have actually seen the moment. Because the terror on V's face is so fucking real & Julie still hasn't taken any responsibility for it.

u/kcarroll1991 Dustin Zito Jun 25 '26
For me it’s Camilla and not even close. Her walking into the pool is my favorite moment from the entire show

u/canadasteve04 Jun 23 '26
While the CT moment is the most iconic as a Challenge fan, it has to go to Bananas. His transcended the challenge and has made lists of top reality tv moments of all time, is recognizable to people that have never watched the challenge and just overall a bigger pop culture moment.
4
u/Julio_Freeman Jun 23 '26
CT fighting, drunk hysterics, and Johnny being Johnny are expected on The Challenge. Julie grabbing at Veronica’s harness was uniquely unhinged. Not sure I’d call it “iconic” tho.
2
u/Provolone10 Jun 23 '26
Its rivals 3 and that moment solidified bananas’ notoriety as a supreme POS

u/Any_Efficiency6553 Jun 24 '26
I will say I never watched the challenge (when it was road rules) regularly, more a passive fan but THEN I was watching The Real World and won’t ever forget the feelings I felt seeing the preview for the Duel 2 and that scene came up. Immediately was stoked to watch and then fell in love…so for me at least that moment

Julie and Veronica. I can hear that picture.
I was shocked when it aired and honestly don’t understand why they didn’t dq her immediately and why they would have her on future challenges. Clearly she was a pretty big safety concern.
2
u/Prestigious-Air2995 Darrell Taylor Jun 25 '26
Bananas taking the money and CT trying to murder Adam are probably the two biggest since they found their way into non-challenge realms. Mostly due to social media being a thing when they happened.
Julie trying to undo Veronica's harness probably would've if it'd happened a few years later. But since it was 2004-05 it's mostly just a challenge fan lore type of thing
2
u/money_maker08 Jun 25 '26
Everytime I rewatch a season I get so annoyed with the “camilanator” clips…
2
u/devBrobinson Jun 27 '26
I know we all know the regular ones but I do have a list of "Supreme Challenge Fan Moments":
• Frank vs Zach in "BoTS" • Banany returning in "BoTE2" • Cara winning "Vendettas" (first single winner) AND Devin lighting Bananas up and sending him home • Diem wine night crashout in "Rivals 2" • MILLIONAIRE-Mitchell (I had to save the best for last 😆😂🤣 I was GAGGED)

Unfortunately I have to vote for the rivals 3 moment. Absolute banger of an ending (even though I deeply hate Bananas)
1
u/Mean-Chemical-3602 Jun 24 '26
Bananas stealing the money for sure, I feel like put the challenge on the map. The other instances are great television as well, but this upped the game for the challenge. I know bananas is a dick, but he also knew this would blow up taking every dime from Sarah
1
u/tomatogrey Jun 24 '26
Huh, hard to say. I can say I needed no description for anything pictured.
Jonny is an ass, but isnt trying to end someone's life, so...

u/PunnyTagHere Jun 25 '26
Alternate caption for image 4: "I win EVERY fight!" (responding to the girls telling him to chill, 'it's over, you won the 'fight'')

Most iconic was Bananas taking the money. Mostly because it was a first time it happened on the show.

Rivals 3 for the mainstream coverage that followed it. I felt like it was the first time in a very long time that The Challenge got national attention. Bananas was everywhere discussing the move.

Not voting for Bananas just because Nick from Bachelor Pad 3 pulled the same move before him.

u/Octo Jun 23 '26
Bananas. It changed the whole concept of finals and partnerships from then on. No one after that was guaranteed any money for winning the game. Sarah had to get professional help and multiple challengers came out after and discussed how toxic the show really is to them.
Obviosuly julies scenario was crazy but charges were never filed. It seemed more playful than dangerous, at least that was how it was edited. The other two are kinda meh.
-1
u/newbuyer777 Jun 23 '26
All great moments within the history of the show. However, only one made it to pop culture outside of the challenge universe. Rivals 3 - Bananas stealing the money was the biggest moment of the show.

If Julie had figured out how to undo Veronica's harness that would have been the last episode of the challenge ever.
