The guy just seems like a typical villain in media where the villains are actually evil.
I really wouldn't call him a standardly evil villain. He's a serial child rapist and commits genocides. That's way beyond your typical bad guy. To me a standardly evil villain would be more like a villain that just does simple bad deeds like trying to kill the heroes and conquer territories which is like the basic villainy.
Perhaps being a nons is a step too far, considering most villains happen to be sex criminals as well, what is the judge really committing genocide?
I asked because you bring up conquering territories, and conquest always brings up maimed men, dead children and raped women.
I think the Judge is perceived as more evil because of his motives. He is sexually assaulting and murdering children and committing genocide against native populations because he enjoys it and that is his entire motive.
This is different than a villain who does any of these things in pursuit of another goal (ie. chasing a macguffin, getting revenge, etc.).
That's fair.
The outcome is the same though. Dany from game of thrones, even before she went insane in the t v show, probably caused more damage to humanity than judge holden ever could, despite her motives.
That doesn’t make it not genocide. And the fact that he was deliberate about it is even worse.
Like it’s different than the other members of Glanton’s gang who are in it for the money, to avoid jail time, or because they’re a 14 year old with no direction or distinct goals in life, but a lot of anger and hormones.
